following the release of their new album marble skies this january, django django will release a new ep focused on the single track surface to air, a track which features for the first time in the bands a guest as the sole vocalist: self esteem, aka rebecca taylor from the uk duo slow club. filtering a jamaican dancehall influence through a widescreen of dreamy psychedelic pop, the track is accompanied on this ep by its instrumental version as well as three remixes from canadian producer lunice, glasgow based dj nightwave and the multi-instrumentalist producer body in the thames.

repress! the impression one gets of django django is of a band laying down the first, meticulously measured borders on some vast map of a world that only they are privy to. correspondent to that, each track is like its own nation of harmonies, rhythms and textures. >we didnt put much conscious thought into making it sound like an album - we thought wed let any similarities between the songs come out by themselves,< explains tommy.

7inch ep / sleeve has a central hole only on back cover, so that the b-side label completes the artwork. after the release of their first album born under saturn in 2012, and its follow up in 2015, musical adventurers django django went on to unchart new sounds and announce the release of marble skies, their new album, on january 26th 2018. tic tac toe is the first extract of this forthcoming album, and gets an exclusive 7inch, ep release. the track is a dancing, psychedelic uptempo and terribly catchy rock title, and will fulfill every django djangos rockabilly influence fan’s expectations. actually, the track is inspired from the very same improvisation that wor and shake & tremble recorded for born under saturn. the music video was directed by john maclean, brother of david (drummer and producer of django django), and director of the atypical western slow west.

since their first album in 2009, django django have covered some distance. indeed, their first album has been acclaimed by critics and sold more than 250 000 units worldwide. after their international tour and a fantastic 2nd album released last year, we are glad to be able to hear them again through a bunch of clever remixes, in which you’ll have the chance to hear tim burgess’ (the charlatans) brilliant contribution to this limited edition ep.

2015 has been an outstanding year for django django with the release of their inventive second album ‘born under saturn’ which was met with rave reviews across the board. continuing that success, the band are ready to unleash four fresh mixes of the latest single ‘pause repeat’ which, as we’ve come to expect from django’s remix packages, are about as on point as it gets. the package starts out with an african beat paired with parisian synths on debruit’s indie dance mix. night slugs’ bok bok offers stop-start disco-infused euphoria. italy’s clap! clap! brings in off-kilter rhythms and infectious bubbles of analogue bass. finally one half of legendary glaswegian duo optimo, jd twitch, heads into deep, dubby and progressive techno territory.

django djangos debut album came out in january 2012 on because music and was lavished with praise. it was updated psychedelia that beguiles and delights (the guardian), consistently mind-melting and often brilliant (q), bursting with ideas (pitchfork) and gloriously, unpredictably new (mojo). by december it had been shortlisted for the mercury prize and named one of the albums of the year by rolling stone and nme. they became known from their electric live performances full of energy, and went on to play memorable shows at festivals across the globe including as glastonbury and fuji rock.

since the last record, the band have embraced creative opportunities, dave (drummer and producer) travelled to mali with damon albarns africa express, and dave and tommy (synthesizer operator) worked on the score for the royal shakespeare companys production of john websters bloodthirsty jacobean tragedy the white devil. dave established his own label, kick and clap, named after the club night he launched when he first moved to dalston and vinnie (singer and guitarist) and jim (bassist) collaborated with award-winning artist haroon mirza at stromboli arts festival last summer, at the foot of the islands volcano.

django django are pleased to announce that they will be headlining the legendary nme awards tour in february 2013. they will be supported by three more of the most exciting live acts around - miles kane, palma violets and openers - peace. django were also recently announced as the headline act on the laneways stage at next years field day - taking place on may 25 in london. in addition to this brilliant live news the band are treating fans to the release of a remix album of their mercury-nominated self-titled debut lp. the double lp comes in gatefold sleeve, including cd-copy of the album.

following on from the release of recent single hail bop and subsequently the extended hail bop ep, django django are pleased to confirm details of their next release from their exceptional eponymous debut album - which was today nominated for this years barclaycard mercury prize. this revered accolade is yet another deserved nod, as it was announced last week that the band are in the running for best new act at this years q awards.

fresh from a full tour of the uk, django django are pleased to announce the release of new single ‘default’ through because music. the band have been busy doing great things in the east london bedroom slept in by their drummer, producer and de facto leader david maclean. amongst those great things is stand-out album track ‘default’ and of course their self-titled debut lp which will grace us with its presence on january 30th. vincent neff (singer and guitarist), jimmy dixon (bassist), and synth operator tommy grace make up the quartet, who met at art school in edinburgh. django django’s story looks set to be a long and compelling one going by early response to their debut record. by banging together their thirst for adventure and their exacting high standards, they’ve produced an album that seems to have everything, but on which everything never seems too much.

in 2009 the internationally acclaimed german director tom tykwer (perfume, run lola run, the international) supervised a film project in kenyas largest township kibera together with his wife marie steinmann. they put together a team of international film pros that each mentored one film student and helped them put together the movie soul boy. a story about a boy who has to go on a journey to rescue his fathers soul from a mysterious voodoo women.
the result of xavers score is a percussive journey reminiscent of minimal music from the 60s paired with african vibes but completely void of world music cliches. its closer to krautrock and steve reich than to the commonly shallow perception of indigenous music by first world movie directors. full of odd sounding kalimbas and plucky guitars, backed by heavy orchestral drumming and floating e-bows.
