when beatsqueeze offered me the opportunity to release a 7” with them, i instantly thought i should make the most out of the many chinese samples i had saved for my chinoiseries project. this record includes many unused samples, drum breaks, sounds and other various samples on side a and side b is a proper dj-tool (skipproof) made to scratch with. make your own chinoiseries beat and then scratch on top of it, i thought that was a pretty cool idea!

few artforms are as apt to describing the fervour and tumult of human emotions as music is. songs transport us to real and imaginary places, living someone else s experiences as our own, connecting with thoughts and feelings through melodies, rhythm and words. as a producer working primarily with the tools of traditional hip-hop – samplers, records, synthesizers onra has distinguished himself over the past decade as one of the best of his generation, capable of creating vivid music that sparks the mind of the listener and brings them along to uniquely detailed spaces, both real and imagined

almost 10 years have passed since onra arrived with the charmingly eccentric chinoiseries lp. 32 hip-hop beats formed the sample-based project - dusty chinese vinyl hissing and crackling throughout – resulting in an intriguing and spontaneous mix of the producers interest in exploring a newly-discovered style of music with his love for classic hip-hop production.
using the style of analogue mpc production combined with the somewhat restrictive record sampling of strictly chinese music records, he has been able to be creative over three volumes, an amount of 100 instrumentals, despite the challenge of finding more obviously standout samples in chinese music.
the chinoiseries projects are the type of albums that invites the listener to play it from beginning to end, in order to really enjoy the trip and appreciate the variety of rhythms and textures spread over those 32 short instrumentals. in that way, “pt.3” is no different to its predecessors, but the originality of the samples, the curious harmonies and the odd-drum patterns still makes the album sounds as fresh as the first one.
onra finishes this epic trilogy with class as a result of extended record digging across the far east and the producer s own development over the preceding 10 years.
as a producer who has released records inspired by 80’s funk, 90’s hip-hop and r’n’b, electronic and even a spiritual jazz project, “pt. 3” brings this stylised set to a close.

the creative swing alliance consist of the 2 producers pablo valentino and steven-j. pablo is responsible for the faces records label & his recent subdivion called motor city drum ensemble. steven-j released records on compost records, soultronik & jazzmin and played double bass for the japanese jazz band >sleepwalker<. they both come from the city of strasbourg fr, shared turntables & droped parties for more than 10 years together. the concept for the csa project was very simple: they locked themselves for one week in pablos attic to work 7 days on 7 tracks all named after the days of the week. bonzzaj records selected for this 12inch their 3 favourite tracks: on >monday< pablo and steven-j created a heavy opener for their project. bumpy they riding their mpc with a deep diving bass and wonderful synths. simbad turned the original >monday< into a heavyweight soulful dancefloor filler mashed with good old west-london broken beats. an essential dj weapon! naturally within the week you can hear some different moods while other friends/artists where passing in the studio...for example on >thursday<, when kira neris joined the alliance to create a spaced-out and captivating disco journey with a wonderful soul sample. last but not least, >saturday<: dusty old jazz records and beat generation hip hop for the b-boys and b-girls! raw! strong stuff for fans of bullion, onra, the linkwood family, etc! limited edition... so you better watch out

for the second release on ki records we invited a very special and talented artist from japan to join our label. daisuke tanabe, who studied art in tokyo and london, has been producing music for the last 13 years. various releases on zero dbs fluid ounce label and an impressive amount of remixes for gilles peterson’s brownswood imprint have proven daisuke tanabes versatility and talent for modern experimental electronic music. as a live act and dj, he performed with gilles peterson, onra, tim exile, hudson mohawke and clark. we decided to dare a leap into a more experimental way by publishing his outstanding flowers on a wall. the four-track ep will be released in august 2009 (500 copies ww on limited vinyl), simultaneously to his first album on japans circulation records.

walter mecca releases his debut 7 inch on favorite recordings! he is a real breath of fresh air, as are other label artists such as onra, yann kesz, dwilt sharpp and lorett fleur. watch out featuring jessica pepper is the dope title track, a tough but heavily boogified future classic! the other side is the beautiful track pleasure, including soulful outerspace grooves and an awesome melody that really grow on you. this track is a must have.
