aufgenommen im jahr 2012 nach ihrem durchbruch für freestyle records. seitdem im tresor von the apples gelagert und gereift! es schien, als wäre die band längst überfällig für eine rückkehr zum label, und was könnte es besseres geben, als dieses kraftvolle, erhebende und headbangende blur-cover zu veröffentlichen.

rather than rely on their usual full band, live performance, one-room live single recording session, the making of ‘dragonz’ was a departure for the apples. a multi-studio project spanning three continents, they assembled new instrumental tracks based on loops created in the studio and presented them to a wide-ranging selection of vocal collaborators to complete the picture with, and applied this method to the capturing of longstanding live favourites as well. the concept of a “vocal album” was implemented on non-vocalist songs as well, treating the omnipresent turntables’ sample work not as the central element to the band, but rather its frontman. though containing disparate influences, guests and production methods, ‘dragonz’ is undeniably apples, might be their most focused lp to date, and it is certainly their most middle-eastern. elements of the region’s indigenous genres have always been present in the band’s work, but never has their influence been as pronounced.

penelope is the 2nd installment from the ag & john robinson ep series produced by ray west. this time around they call on the prolifc west coast wordsmith blu on the title track “penelope” where all the emcees are painting verbal pictures of their own personal dream girl, this track also features frequent collaborator dave dar. the soundscapes provided by ray west are ill collages of jazz loops, live horns, percussion sounds, vintage drum machines and more. each of these recording sessions were labeled “tea with the butcha” by the collective and it truly does describe the essence of the sounds and conversations on these recordings.

ag (ditc) & john robinson - they watching ep produced by ray west ag (ditc) & john robinson is a full circle collaboration that was organically birthed out of a meeting of the minds connected by producer ray west. the first building session completed with two songs recorded and some great vibes and the rest is now story. they watching is the first installment of a series of eps from this collective, the music is ag and j.r. telling retrospective stories of their journeys and experience combine with history, social justice, music and much more over jazz attributed sound beds provided by ray west. -they watching- speaks how living in this advanced state of technology has forced people to surveillance themselves just through every day life from social media to security cameras to debit and credit cards etc. whose watching?

marek bois is a constant element on the rrygular label carousel. since 2006 hes putting out new records on a regular basis. his first artist album boissche untiefen and the compulsory remix record in 2008 marked the climax of the project, so far. and to be honest he deserved a short break afterwards. the release of apples & oranges shows the new bois, purposeful as usual and even more punchy on top. marek bois ist eine feste größe auf dem rrygular labelkarussell. seit 2006 kommt in regelmäßigen abständen neues material von ihm. nach seinem ersten album boissche untiefen inklusive remixes in 2008 hat er es verdienterweise etwas ruhiger angehen lassen. mit apples & oranges kommt nun der neue bois, gewohnt zielsicher und obendrein noch schlagkräftiger als zuvor
