dark entries are honored to reissue the 4th full-length from carolyn fok / cyrnai, an asian-american female solo artist from the bay area. in 1990 ‘to subtle-drive’ was re-released with 2 songs from the 1988 release and 4 new compositions. this reissue adds 5 bonus tracks recorded during the same period spread across a double lp set. each copy includes a double sided insert with lyrics, photos and notes by carolyn. all songs have been remastered by george horn at fantasy studios. old-soul beat tracks on cassette with time and techno-guilotine songs.

obscurum is a two man outfit based in fuerth, germany. formed by roland l. and d. blaze, who have collaborated musically together since 1995. they also own the following labels: e-com, exalt and seico corp. known for their preference for minimal detroit techno music, they command international credibility. dark electronics and pumpin techno with an industrial tinge. several releases on e-com/exalt/seico corp. unite their typical style of production which puts the mechanical part of their music in the front row. functionality without any compromise.

(180 g vinyl) there is something wonderfully uplifting and naive about the mittle european b-movie pop and library music of the 1970s. an imperfect perfection of sound palette and melody, creating & encapsulating a whole world of hypnotic intrigue.this feeling is what comes to mind when listening to the debut album of californian scott gilmore, which is reminiscent (in more modern times) of the pre moon safari air.

gents & dandy s are finally back with a 3rd limited 12- vinyl release and this time it s an artist ep by the hands of the greece, athens based achilleas dimitracopoulos, better known as fog. he s contributed to the house music movement since the late 90s and has previously released on labels like noir music, dieb audio, apparel music, seven music, and just recently suena hermosa. collaborations and remix work happened for kindimmer, patrick zigon or even kruse & nuernberg to name just a few.

after his debut ep hello 307 and critically acclaimed follow up lp dance with me we find microlith, aka rhys celeste, pushing his sound ever forward. celeste takes his sublime musical ability and electro funk influence to produce a compelling soundscape. a vast army of analogue synths can be heard on every track which will catch the ears of afx fans as he effortlessly manipulates them into beautiful, highly detailed compositions. this ep occupies a corner of electro seldom trod, and with it celeste galvanises his lofty position in the new wave of braindance. rip rhys, our deepest condolences go out to your family and friends

british powerhouse alan fitzpatrick returns to figure with his second ep on the label after 2009 s weed killer / science . since then its clear that alan has continued on a dedicated, valiant quest to find his own sound, and the results are on show here, with a heavyweight, emotive and futuristic techno three-tracker. like a warm rush of endorphins on the summer breeze, alan s rich up-building sound is perfectly represented in tracks like a subtle change , with its jubilant stab-led melody, or the modern club-weapon vibes of trigger finger . harking back to late 90s uk idm and proper dub-techno atmospheres, fitzpatrick then gracefully crafts a down-tempo, space-out version of a subtle change for the b-side, providing the afterhours sessioners with a new buzz-track.

ncql annouces himself in no uncertain fashion with the anthemic strings of >the framed dreams of loki<. the track nods to dj premier, prefuse 73 and classic metalheadz d&b hidden agenda style and theres a subtle (!) reference to a certain classic 90s rave tune in there aswell. it sounds like a mess – its anything but! this is uplifting breakbeat at its very best. its not often a tune gets played twice by bailey on his bbc 1xtra show in the space of a month, so this must be something special. the flipside has a similar organic & uplifting aesthetic. a strutting break is the base for a deluge of warmth in the shape of synths, strings, flutes, harp and vocals – an unusual sound palette for a drum & bass track these days but refreshing to hear. dj flight thought so and has aired it on one of her next chapter rinse fm broadcasts.

stunning 4-tracker by contemporary japans fine electronic mind doltz. meta-ambient, beyond space, heavy yet subtle mixture of tranquility and anxiety that will take a listener on a hypnotizing journey through furtive meanings and rhythms. issued on 150-gram 12-inch black vinyl disc jacketed in the design envelope. limited 12” pressing!

the young nordic label is back at it with a sturdy 12” vinyl release, produced by the helsinki underground electronic music champion poly sone. the three tracker kicks off with an intro track titled “come find me” which combines stripped down rhythm patterns with a subtle choir pad. on top of the foundation, an entrancing spoken word verse works as the main ingredient throughout the track. as the needle pushes onwards to the title track “echolocate”, the listener is confronted with a robust wall of lowend, soon accompanied by rolling percussions and clever use of reverb and delay. the simple composition highlights its sterling production and makes for a highly useful dancefloor tool. the last track “helix” bundles up the record nicely as the most melodic one of the bunch. the agile synth stabs and dystopic pads operate on a surprisingly groovy soil of bass and drums which add up to a dreamy whole.

nic tvg, aka producer nic taylor, has been lurking in the shadows since 2010, occasionally stepping forward to deliver decidedly dark, murky and unusual blends of drum and bass, abstract electronica and leftfield beats.

it s been nearly 15 years since this originally hit the shelves, which literally took the immersive atmospheric sound of echospace and brought it right to the floor. with cv313 s -sailingstars- the spirit continues as they go on to preach the gospel of deep with a rippling exercise in space and bass. a sort of slow motion movement in tone and 38 hz sub frequency which nearly verges on the disturbing, a sonic threshold quite hard to achieve in a vinyl cut. the power of repetition and subtle atmosphere are clearly demonstrated here by bringing the listener to an almost hypnotic state within its melodic spatial grooves. the b side offers two immense reductions, equally effective providing a low end throb, analog spirit and organic textures captured in zero gravity, it s like truly sailing among the stars. lovingly remastered and mixed down from the original analog 1/4- reel to reel tape, strictly limited to 300 copies for the world.

vinyl only , after a short break unison wax returns with a brand new four-track collection of music from the bossman himself, diego krause. the berliner took a year off in 2016, concentrating on other projects and letting the label have a rest, but now he’s back with a refined sound. unison wax embodies a more sophisticated aesthetic, with warm analogue hues and subtle textures to push things forward a little. after all, we couldn’t come back from a break without progressing, huh?! first out of the blocks is ‘nihilate’, which helps introduce this updated unison wax sound, crisp beats lock us into a groove in conjunction with a dainty selection of analogue effects and a funky little b-line. diego carefully adds new elements as the track progresses, keeping you interested right until the end. next is the title track, ‘rituals’, which kicks off with an insistent bassline and spellbinding percussion that keeps you gripped from the off. he throws in some claps to add energy and muted pads, which slowly rise to prominence, giving the track an emotive atmosphere which wraps itself around you. one for the eternal dreamers… flip the record over for side b and ‘dysfunction’, which turns things grimy. marauding beats and bass conspire to create a morose atmosphere. diego’s penchant for super sharp beats is present here again, and the energy builds slowly but surely. a new layer creeps in every few bars and sucks you right into the track’s lair. expertly done, and impossible to resist, this is darkside pressure at its best. ‘eudaimonia’ rounds things off, with more deep grooves. initially propelled by minimal percussion, the track really gets going when more beats are added. it maintains a laid back feeling and, while the drums are solid, the atmosphere is mostly quite soft with swirling pads keeping things light in the top end. when they fall away towards the end of the track we have a rather gnarly close to the composition, as the beats and bass take over. and there it is, the welcome return of unison wax – smooth and refined for 2017…

a planned reissue for many years, the untimely passing of steve coe shortly after the label s rerelease of the ganges orchestra s the dream put everything on hold. however, time moves and so now seems a fitting time to revisit this -world dance- classic with fonder hearts. long cherished, it is a reminder of steve s enduring studio mastery. after the initial success of his work with sheila chandra in monsoon, steve expanded his musical scope, working on an indipop compilation as clubs looked to eastern flavours to add a new dimension for the dancefloor. teaming up with tabla disciple turned teacher, jhalib (millar), as well as long time collaborator martin smith, it s hard to imagine mysteries was first heard in 1982. hailed as an all time classic, it s enduring appeal can be seen in how it became a staple for the likes of danielle baldelli at the infamous cosmic club and beyond to become an original evissa -balearic- secret play for weatherall & co in those fateful summers of love and beyond. remastered especially for this release, the orchestral eastern melody and mid-tempo chugging rhythms and vocals marry in perfection with a dub bassline of wobble inspired depth. this alone would be enough, however, the original is at last backed with the 1988 remix. aimed at the then burgening new beat scene, a subtle straightening kick is added, but it s the unmistakable vocals of sheila chandra that finally brings this release together in melodic harmony. peace be with you steve. i am x
