sonic groove’s latest high octane addition to the roster is berlin based british artist rebekah. rebekah has led a successful artist and dj career in the techno scene over the past five years with releases on the prolific clr and soma imprints as well as her own labels elements and decoy. her soma album from a few months ago entitled “fear paralysis” shows her artistic skills of having a wide range of flexibility as she weaved through many styles of techno from deep to hard.
taking her artistry into further realms of sound construction, rebekah ventures into a much harder industrial techno terrain with her latest four cut release entitled “into the black”. designed specifically with sonic groove in mind. “loose mechanics” & “conquest” are ferocious industrialized peak time techno pulverizers that will turn stone into dust.
“into the black” is an advant garde broken beat track with a pitch shifting, hauntingly dissonant string drone would be the perfect score for a sci-fi horror flick while “war cry” turns the blackness into a lighter shade of grey with it’s complexly designed chord driven emotions layered over a very intricately programmed drum rhythm.

as we gradually build toward the release of rebekah s debut album on soma, the hard hitting dj/producer drops her 3rd single in the shape of the code black ep. rebekah is on somewhat of a frenzied run of form at the moment with not only an exhaustive touring schedule but a slew of releases that stand as a testament to her dedication to techno.

for the first cult figure release, rebekah comes up with 3 awesome cuts of no-nonsense techno from the darker side of things.

this latest instalment in an impressive run of eps sees chris colburn drop one more classic sounding cuts, wide awake (jacking, detroit-inspired minimalism). having asked to remix >wide awake< after receiving the track directly from chris, rebekah showed just how much she liked the track by delivering two remixes. her fully awake remix is typical of the no-nonsense heads-down style that has earned rebekahs previous work plaudits from adam beyer and chris leibing, while the half asleep mix reworks the original stab pattern to deep hypnotic effect.

karateklub suprises with hugh tracks from jenn, fantastically remixed by rebekah (criminal/uk). with >cheeky<, jenn presents a groovy and much more minimal side then we allready heard on her last ep. suprising and reduced, her sounds looping up and down, embedded in a clonky basedrum structure. the remix, made by rebekah, well known from her releases on criminal records, is just fantastic and completes the ep brilliantly. she desinged a hugh groove and pushed it forward. by adding her ideas she creates an excellent new track. the interface original is specified by stomping and jigging beats, which get intermitted by smooth voices and melodies, before pushing it up again. these girls have it and paint the town red!

rebekahs second instalment on criminal records is a 2 track ep. moving flawlessly into techno with 2 beautifully crafted pieces, freakonomics is a deep work out of sub heavy bongos, a haunting melodic synth line and stripped riding percussion with layers of effects building into an atmospheric breakdown. neo is more up-tempo with shuffling percussion and rolling bass that leads into deep rich synth stabs. radio 1 was quick to pick up neo airing it on mistress de funk s residency show last week and both tracks are gaining huge support from the likes of funk d void, greg vickers, mark knight and yousef

ansome returns to perc trax for his first original release since his debut album “stowaway” was released on the label in april 2016. since then he has extensively toured europe and north and south america with his ever changing modular live set as well as further establishing his south london analogue material imprint with a run of uncompromising releases.
despite decamping to berlin last year “british steel” shows there is still a no nonsense uk grittiness to ansome’s music. the frenetic rhythms reflect the pressure and paranoia of london life and for the first time his music incorporates vocals, thanks to the voice of occasional live collaborator oliver kohlenberg.
the four tracks take in everything from broken grooves to straight up dance floor face melters with a perfect balance of rhythm and texture. “poison your body” has been a highlight of perc’s recent dj sets for months now, whilst “marching powder” was featured on rebekah’s debut essential mix for bbc radio.
