welcome to ‘magic maze’ a guided meditation from oslo’s helene rickard. over two sides of a c60 cassette, the norwegian dj curates an immersive journey through imaginary landscapes and possible musics, marrying the organic and synthetic into a deep tissue massage of healing frequencies. showing infinite patience, the camp cosmic regular gradually oscillates between fourth world exotica and pastoral new age, at once opening our minds with the celestial splendour of crystalline chimes connecting us all with future primitive hymns. as we float along under helene’s benevolent gaze we encounter each of the elements, oceanic reverb, vaporous reeds, earthy drones and smouldering tones, each imparting its own ancient wisdom as we pass.

after the 13th tape release, hmd records has compiled it’s first ep ever with various artists, from helsinki and oslo. the music on the record is made by friends and colleagues of the oslo based label and party promoter, hmd. four tracks that vary in tempo and genre according to the artists different production styles. all tracks are connected by deep chords and a passionate drive, labeled with (slightly naive) working titles about various stages of love. very romantic, keeping in mind that hmd stands for hjemme med dama that roughly translates to home with the missus in a tongue in cheek kind of irony.

its tempting to think that the opening of schloss02, which features the sound of track racing behind a cavernous broken kick, has some connection with the fact that dj/producer karima f runs schloss out of a disused porsche repair shop with contemporary artist ida ekblad. but then you might start to wonder about other details, like whether her production is influenced by a teenage effort to fit in with the cool kids by playing the violin (it isnt). the three songs on the debut 12- of oslo mainstay karima f take off in their own direction, tripping through bleeps and metallic riffs on the way to something more ethereal.

oslo based bulgarian, ivaylo makes a welcomed return on his bogota imprint with two dance floor cuts on america ep. warm rhodes chords and funky bass lines inform the sound of trendy jose, taking the listener on a groovy ride with ivaylos vocal directing the sound: jose is mexican and he likes it, trendy! spicing up the house groove ton the flip is a remix from dallas native, jt donaldson. donaldson brings the heat, with his funky deep remix, whose percussive interpretation opens up the track for any dance floor. ivaylos second track jacks confusion places you directly into berlins vibrant sound. ivaylo hypnotises with the perfect combination of percussion and bass line on the steady 4/4 chi house beat. america ep is ivaylos 4th release for bogota records since labels existence and its the beginning the producers self-styled new sound with more focus on percussive elements within the warm, deep sound that hes known for.

the artist run gallery schloss, inhabiting the space of a defunct porsche repair shop in oslo, has birthed a record label under the same name. run by the visual artist ida ekblad and the dj/ producer karima furuseth. the first release is by londoner max fowler,who has a certain affinity for ageing samplers and dusty samples.the b-side features a remix by stockholm mainstay and, among other, the trilogy tapes-affiliate samo dj. mixed and mastered by matt karmil.

dream diary is a label operating out of brixton that has previously featured the likes of afriqua, tom gillieron and richie littler on its roster, and now it s the turn of the head honcho oslo roma to serve up some more of that subversive four-to-the-floor business. mars water- is an infectious minimal roller with bass that wraps itself around your cerebellum and pulls you in deeper, while -bubbles- does the same but without any drums to buffet it along. how good is the party is a more experimental affair that deals with off kilter rhythmic fragments and spaced out textures, leaving ep closer twotet to drop a more immediate slice of electro on the situation.

oslo is happy to welcome new artist federico lijtmaer to the family with his wonderful ep impermanencia. inpermanencia on the a-side is a superb deep house track with the right kind of funkyness for the cool. federico combines smooth bass with shifty drums and classy synth action. this track will conjure a smile on your face and we are happy as hell to be able to release this little gem. unselfish on the b-side is as funky as its big brother on the flip-side. a throwback to bygone times in a way, if you consider labels as mosaic or trelik. however, federico definitely succeeded in terms of a modern interpretation. the inclined listener will recognize his musical roots anyway.

aficionado reach their sixth release in luxurious style with a couple of gorgeous numbers cherry picked from mancunian songwriter nev cottee s forthcoming lp, accompanied by two winning remixes. within the nilsson-esque melodies of *oslo*, cottee has buried a lifetime of emotion, balancing melancholy and joy perfectly. his words conjure the image of lost love remembered and fleeting nostalgia as those heartbreaking strings soar along. this is perfect balearic for the winter seasons.

burkhardts latest stroke, including the hit delight. now we are back again with a charming selection of remixes, including work by tobi neumann and julien veniel aka djulz. tobi neumanns remix reminds the attentive listener to the old days of oslo. it is so to speak on the point. its light, but still complex in a special way. tobi carefully unhinged the catchy vocals of delight, added it at some points and put his glance over it. the b-side is home to djulzs interpretation of pianissimo. a dark and powerful house track, that finds its glory in its simplicity. a subtle piano sample is the basis for a forward moving drum pattern. here and there an eerie vocal shot rises and guides the dancer through the musical mind of djulz.

candy land is dj pi-ges first solo release from arpa records. it follows on from his previous collaboration with mathias kaden as unit mathi midori& pi-ge who released the konomama ep on raummusik the ep gained critical acclaim, especially for the inspiring remixes by reboot and maayan nidam. “candy land( original mix) - track one is a minimal track structured with profound bass, crunchy guitar samples and simple rhythm, peppered with minimalistic voice samples, it features a high impact breakdown. on the track 2 is a remix by christian burkhardt, one of the most remarkable producers at the moment and his tracks have been released various leading labels such as raum…musik, oslo, and cocoon to name a few. his remix fuses the characters of the original track with a unique new school rhythm and groove. on the 3rd track is deep and dark remix by dj sodeyama, label honcho of arpa records. this remix form an extended journey of over 10mins with a deep and dark introduction thats combined with experimental sounds as the track builds. all in all a great package for djs of deep house, tech house and techno.

the next llfo comes as a split ep. swedish master of minimal house and argentinian techno veteran franco cinelli gathering to show underground dance musics status quo. franco cinellis da beatz on the a side, is a funky old school composition. the drums are the main plot of the track. twirling snares and classy rides accompanied by a very familiar sample give us a 1995 feeling. pandemonium on the b side, martinez contribution for this wonderful split ep, is his interpretation of modern house in perfection. as usual tight drum patterns, the for to the floor attitude and a low-fi bassline supported by a trippy vocal sample. probably one of his best work of late.

noidoi are back on track! the romanian invaders team up with their second ep on our beloved sublabel love letters from oslo. after their last ep dupa joi on oslo, which was released just a short while ago, the masters of puristic funk are back again. inainte inapoi iar starts with a randomized and funky off-beat snare drum, which morphs into a deep and massive bass break anthem. then, the simple but classy melody pads lead into a typical romanian house groover, which is distinguished by his complex drum patterns and edgy percussion. the second track peloc, made of a playful oldschool melody, reminds on the good old times back in the days. a solid tool for unique moments, which can be big, if used in the right order!
