originally released on anthony shakirs frictional recordings in 97, fbks knobs & switches is set to drop on rekids newly launched re-issue label r-time records. since his debut fbk has had a prolific career spanning a number of decades, releasing on rekids, barba records, and the now defunct diametric. this release follows on from the sir lord comixx re-issue, giving classic tracks the acknowledgement they didnt initially get first time round. the release starts with the robust kicks and stuttering hats of rollin on 6/4 as murky notes make their way into the mix, making way for the sci-fi inspired synths and infectious claps of reservations & misgivings. packed with fast paced drums, feedback employs a sultry bassline and euphoric harmonies until skipping percussion and echoing effects conclude the package in the tet offensive.

forty six knobs machine by unbroken dub is the first release from nikita zabelins label, resonance moscow. based in the russian capital, the label focuses on electronic music from towns and regions nationwide. unbroken dub is the stage-name of denis safiullin, well known to domestic audiences as a member of the hot wax team. that project comes from the industrial city of tyumen, sometimes called the hydrocarbon heart of russia. winter temperatures in the area can fall below 45c. denis is a long-standing aficionado of analog synths and continues to experiment with all manner of samples. those two trajectories produce a high level of originality, especially when he enlists the support of leading club figures from around the world. denis release for resonance moscow is excellent proof of this bold experimentation. all three tracks on forty six knobs machine use the rokton, an antique soviet drum synth.

it’s the idea of capturing a moment on vinyl that created the first release of “henk”. after countless hours of twitching the knobs on their machines the dj’s and producers stikdorn and mk braun created a string of tracks that will now see the light of day on their collaborative label. on the a1 a solo track by stikdorn takes you into darker spheres with an acid line and mystic strings/vocals. the a2 is an acidic banger ready to damage some dance floors seriously. on the b-side things get slower and quirkier. b1 is a bit broken and features a trippy acid line to guide you through lots of different drum patterns. b2 is a melancholic ride going seriously deep and mellow. the perfect closing track!

multi culti s lucid-lifestyle dreamer peter power takes us on a free-wheeling trip to the motherland on afro damba. the irish-born voodoohop resident has returned from the jungles of bahia with a fresh ep of primal party tracks sampling voices and rhythms from across africa and it s neighbouring islands, producing what is easily his most club-oriented work to date. whereas his tracks for voodoohop were spiritual flute-heart-openers, these are neo-pagan mating-ritual floor-fillers. the rhythm is set to tribal chug, with rollicking percussion, reverb-soaked vocals, and all the fun jangly bells & bits you expect to be hanging off such a well-traveled producer. if that weren t enough, we enlisted romanian-dance-duo khidja to rework adama waro resident mix-lord dreems also weighs in with a subtle remix of dansakoni, gently upping the tempo and tweaking the knobs in selfless service of the original groove.

ltd summer 2016 deal.. its a really clever go lucky move that the never resting glückskind founders michael klang and jürgen kirsch got samuel knob on board. the valencia-based producer really knows how twist those knobs to come up with the craziest noises. his skills, honed during his residency times at barraca music and narita club, are perfectly put into use with this crafty release that should have people dancing on the roof tops--naked. samuel, a drummer who jumpstarted his musical career at the age of sixteen in a pop-rock band, is exploring the outer realms of percussive beats, incorporated in a tight yet not at all minimal sounding house construct. inspired by his father who is also a drummer and programmer, he does not hesitate to foray into unknown dimensions, making this eleventh glückskind release a very special piece of black gold

mosco fell asleep and awoke days later with red axes. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. dikembe manutu, the fictional character whos name gives title to our thumping a side, establishes a lush theme based on meandering steel drums and reverberating toms while a slew of rich percussion leads us through the jungle on a melodic galloping bassline. once this deep groove gets us rolling, were treated to a variety of twinklling melodies that float high above. on side b, rage in the cage is a true live drum machine jam, full of bleeps, detuned toms, abrasive cymbals, and plenty of left turns. we can only imagine the mood in the studio as these three old friends frantically smacked buttons and tweaked knobs, creating happy accidents and loving every menacing moment of chaos as they stirred this cauldron. these two songs will make you thirst for exotic nectars.

mslwte, does the name ring a bell? james calls himself a techno experimentalist and he sure is! as a co-owner of subsekt, he sure knows how to turn those knobs. dirty, rough, experimental, twisted dark techno. you will love it.

archie pelago is a trio from brooklyn. greg plays cello, zack plays saxophone, and dan plays trumpet and works the knobs. the archie guys did one of the very first releases on mister saturday night records, and we’re very happy to have them back – especially with such brilliant tunes. the a side, clammy customer, takes dozens of twists and turns, weaving in vocals by the always excellent gabriel garzon-montano, and the b side, madame suede nightshade, was apparently made with us in mind (check the initials). both sides are tried and tested on our dancefloor and cut at 45rpm for maximum oomph.

dfalt’s latest release brings the music back to where jason was all those years ago, twisting knobs on his beat up old roland 303. this time he steps to the plate with a host of tools including ableton, mpc1000, technics 1200s, various korg koass pads, casio sk-1, amongst many other gadgets and toys. an appreciation fort he old school masters and the mid-90s experimental and electronic beat scene, mixed with jason’s ever evolving production techniques, are what brought dfalt and his latest record to life.

a lot of water has passed under the bridge since the release of etienne jaumet’s night music, dating from october 2009. his hypnotizing music and enchanting live performances put him directly on the map. it’s just him who is in control of his ship. he moves without complexes from his saxophone to his drum machine (his beloved tr 808) while turning knobs modulating synths, and sending his voice through an echo.la visite, etienne’s brand new album, more luminous and jazzy than its predecessor, has been composed and produced within a two month period in the versatile studio. it became a piece of introspection, mentally as well as physically. in the title track, for which flop wrote the text, we hear etienne travelling through the inside of a body, fantastic voyage style.it is always surprising to see a record taking shape. etienne would arrive at the studio without any precise idea in head, approaching his work rather intuitively. he works standing up, which brings a very different energy than being seated behind a computer polishing up every detail. he is in total mastery of his set-up, ready to capture that short-lived moment of true creation. the only use a computer has for him, is to record his experiments - afterwards being mixed by jerome caron (blackjoy).in between night music and la visite, etienne has not been lazy. not only has he done numerous collaborations (amongst others with joakim, richard pinhas, francois & the atlas mountain) and picked up djing, he has also recorded a new zombie zombie album (rituels d’un nouveau monde) with cosmic neman, as well as the soundtrack loubia hamra. and he worked with artist felicie d estienne d orves on the installation satori. at this very moment, etienne and his saxophone are still part of the tour of james holden.

premiesku, a project from romanian duo livio & roby in collaboration with their pal george g, pays tribute to analogue sources and vintage devices - for them its all about touching knobs and faders, modulating oscillators, building their own consoles, interacting with their gear and taking time to experiment. not for nostalgia, but for the love of organic grooves, spiritedness of sounds and a serious portion of soul in their music.

while the first release on wania, busen & paleos >stream of love< (featuring dj sotofetts anthemic overdub-12inchedit) was a rather leftfield affair, dritfett is aimed more directly towards the dancefloor. the label artwork gives a clear clue as to what this release is all about: amongst a number of cryptic messages and shout-outs in norwegian - a tr-909 logo. all the tracks here are based around the 909 - thunderous kickdrums and sharp, hissing hi-hats that cut through the mix. still, theres a broad range of sounds, from head-down, fists-clenched warehouse workouts with an industrial edge, to more melodic tracks with detroit references aplenty. make no mistake though: this is all about the power of the almighty 909. theres no fancy tricks here‚ no ableton-trickery or polished waveforms, just good honest techno with a real raw live feel. this gives the tracks the energy and spontaneity that is sorely missed in many of todays productions. the kind of energy you will find - in abundance - in the house and techno releases of the 90s. the kind of energy that can only be achieved by pressing play on a machine, frenetically twisting knobs and punching buttons while letting the energy of the room decide where to go next.

the title track >juneau< comes at you with force, grace and a warm low end perfect for a late night or an early morning. pier bucci and crazy larry aka glacier really work the knobs and controls to create a melodic yet refined sound. this is definitely the most emotional track on the release, usually evoking quite a response from the dance floor. play this at the right time and you will have a smile on your face for sure.

driven by many musical styles both, herbst & blecha spend hours sitting in their small, freezing basement studio, twiddling knobs, djing on weekends and drinking loads of sweet, cheap and sticky orange lemonade. now the work of these two talented producers is rewarded with their first common release. jove is a melodic tech-house piece containing one of those catchy bass lines that will still be sticking in your ear long after the track has finished. well fitting to summer the track ôshilpaö takes you on a smooth trip and will form the perfect transition from your club night experience to watching the sunrise afterwards. the zoo brazil rmx of ôjoveö is a crisp piece that shall evoke your best summer nights you have spent this season. each time the kick drum lets go of your body in a break, you will just get carried away, throw your hands in the air and then fall back into the beat and just smile!

mindless boogie brings another cheeky edits bundle which sidesteps the obvious. this time with lithuanian linas strockis aka new found land behind the knobs. his love for 80ies balearic / fm rock tracks is quiet obvious. another gemm!

on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.
