clandestino head joe morris is next up on wonder stories, imparting the kind of sun-kissed discoid meditation the label and its listeners lap up. morris is sounding confident and cool on cloud nine, using vintage drum machine patterns and fuzzy synth lines to impart a sweet-natured groove that reaches skywards. contrasting the blissed out original, max essa brings a little more bite to the table with his shimmering electro-disco version, while coyote preaches his balearic vision on the b1 remix. label boss aimes keeps things smooth and steady with a deep house version of cloud nine for all dancefloor dreamers to get lost in.

macaulay is ricardo medina, a mexico city based dj producer deeply ingrained in the mexican underground techno scene (xxxtra picante, disque discos). he presents an ep full of acid drenched techno joined by tad bit of cheekiness he is known for, with rolling basslines and jacking drums making these cuts perfect for peak time weirdness. on remix duty is fellow mexico city based alejandro paz (comeme, rbma) who ups the wonkiness on techmoreno with a percussion filled heater

for ws021 we head to italy where we find a duo by the name of concret aka italo-mexican musician diego angelico escobar and producer q-pha. together, they submit a couple of ethereal, stripped-back and driving techno tracks that compliment each other so well they appear to be brother and sister from the same session. on remix duty we ve got another italian, rodion, who ads his signature sound to ritorno and flips it into a laid-back dark groover. last but not least is uk s heretic, aka timothy clerkin, who remixes andata into a classy acid burner fit for a massive warehouse party or dark, sweaty basement.

de school is thrilled to announce the release of het altijd: a 160-page journey back to and through its now-defunct club, art spaces, café, and restaurant, which closed their doors on january 15. het altijd archives de school s essential facets, functions, spaces, and stories, from the pre-ds days to the moment the music stopped. in sync with de school s eight-year- spanning program, the publication is a sensory and experience-based format that crisscrosses disciplines and allows those who enter to define their own route. the release of het altijd follows the launch of het archief, the extensive sound archives unlocked earlier this year.

more than a final form of documentation, het altijd was created to be an experience in itself, expanding on the time-erasing sense of exploration that a deep dive into de school embodied. preserved records such as architectural sketches and art documentation are interwoven with original imagery by various creative contributors, including semi-anonymous portraits of club regulars, and post-closing snapshots taken just minutes after the very last dance. recurring throughout the publication, and featured on the cover, is the abstracted thermal imagery of artist loes de boer, who chronicled the 66-hour closing (het einde) while upholding de school s distinct sense of anonymity and wonder. in het altijd, the no-photo policy is simultaneously upheld and lifted—leaving space to roam and relive de school one last time.

het altijd refrains from a singular storyline and exclusively features text found in, on, and around doctor jan van breemenstraat 1. left-behind wall markings, toilet scribbles and sticky notes from the basement were photographed and excerpted to form fragmentary, touching, and tongue-in-cheek poetry that revive individual and collective memories. in addition, the non-linear graphic design and—lack of—binding allows anyone to (re)arrange their very own de school encounters. holding het altijd together is a translucent red cover featuring the instantly recognisable grid: a final nod to de school, the warm hue of its seemingly endless hallways, and its enduring, all-encompassing foundation.

nazare is a balearic house which has been left on the slo cooker all day. with a nagging baseline and lush pads a plenty. max essa takes us on a moody balearic tropical ride for his remix.
walpole is another slice of balearic house with a throbbing bassline and trips arms. this time the remix picks up the pace a little for a more dance floor, norwegian disco-esque groove from edsc’s very own neil diablo.

you can always trust ludovic llorca. once a year he locks himself in his studio and works the magic which results in a local talk release. his previous releases on local talk, the same thing (classic proto housemeets-baggy us garage vibe) the rainbow song (it sounds like an underground summer anthem in waiting) are lt classics and now, ludo returns with a third release, i just can t ep. while some producers struggle with new ideas, trying to re-invent the genre, ludo sticks to what he knows best. strings and chords combined with a thick and squelchy bass is the foundation of the title track while on the flip, dirty stories, is as hypnotic as it is jackin, in fact, both tracks are so irresistible you d start wondering if ludo stole them from a snake charmer.

delsin present a new ep by b12 aka steve rutter entitled orbiting souls, a name which comes from the fact the veteran artist has recently spent contemplating the loss of a friend and believes we are surrounded by lost souls and spirits. this is b12 s second ep this year following on from the bokide 325 release on soma records and comes years after still acclaimed album like electro-soma and timetourist on warp records back in the 90s. orbiting souls is a somewhat complex journey, a representation of inner bi polar opposites, isolation, sadness, but also acknowledging the great and wonderful things around that swirl and support and energise us. a perfectly formed sound world that is both absorbing and cerebral and comes with a full colour sleeve by boris tellegen.

nobody knows where these guys were beforehand, but this record is a real hit. a new release has emerged from an equally new label - detroit techno archive it reflects the labels name perfectly. the 12inch recording includes six wonderful detroit techno tracks, from a couple of artists. the first associations that come to mind are detroit legends like underground resistance, derrick may, stacey pullen, kenny larkin, and octave one. youll find some old-school techno with a rich groove, multilayered melodies, and some great stories behind them. this is real hi-tech jazz.

ritons >lost my mind< ep sees the former boy wonder of techno release his first original material in over 12 months. needless to say, a lot happened during this period, and arriving at this point was not easy. but like all good stories of loss and redemption, there will always be a moment where the protagonist must look back in order to go forward, a return to form in order to pave the way to the future. this ep, released january 2013 on ed banger records, signifies this moment both musically and creatively. combining techno, house music, hip hop and electro >lost my mind< ep kick-starts with the festival pumping techno track >bang your head<.
