in 2015 musician, producer, dj, record collector and tigersushi head honcho joakim played for the first time at mareh festival in boipeba, brasil. like many before him and many since, he found the experience a transformative one. and why not? so many like-minded souls gathered together on a remote island in bahia listening to the sounds of amazing djs while dancing barefoot in idyllic coastal settings all night long. what s not to like? it s quite a concept. in the moment of that experience, joakim vowed to head straight to the studio on his return home to try and recapture that magical vibe, which he did. and true to his word he offered it back to mareh for release on their imprint. a musical gift from the heart. the wonderful percussion and drums characteristic of joakim s productions drift in and around the mix and sit gently alongside the sound of the waves. beautiful arps reach out and capture the glittering stars at night and the first glorious sign of light at sunrise as the party continues. underneath everything the bassline continues to punch through, blending primeval carnival vibes with an electronic sensibility. lovingly mastered and beautifully pressed onto 10 inch vinyl in manila covers, this limited edition release is worthy of any record collection. it also represents a little piece of the magic that is boipeba, and will certainly fit perfectly into those balearic and adriatic settings too.

dirty analog techno from french boss, crackboy trevor jackson: brilliant! crackboy (and all his dirty aliases) never disapoints for his second chapter on crowdspacer (after releases on tigersushi, im a cliché, zone or fragil), crackboy, the king of french dirty analog techno, half of pov with label-boss joakim, digs deeper into that detroit melanchol-epic vibe with weapons of steel on the a-side before going bonkers on the b-side with 2 naughty stripped-down beat-centric dj tools for the sweaty late night crowds. made me think of some gemini tracks when i first heard it (thats a compliment).

daniel avery releases his >need electric ep< june 25th on phantasy sound. the london based dj has spent the last few years impressing his peers, collaborating with justin robertson, being singled-out as the one to watch by andrew weatherall (who also lent his midas remix touch to daniels last release) and has now signed up to erol alkan’s phantasy label. daniels releases have already appeared on tigersushi, throne of blood and relish and he is a sought after remixer having leant his distinctive style to tracks for metronomy, django django, the 2 bears, mickey moonlight, jokers of the scene, amongst others. this new ep is a definitive statement of intent for avery as a producer in his own right. the vinyl resurects lock grooves for the more adventurous dj, and features unique artwork from the up and coming kate copeland.

permanent vacation are delighted to bring you the second chapter of the first space oddities saga compiled by alexis le-tan (music journalist and member of the tigersushi bass system) and jess (formerly of the famed french house duo jess & crabbe and now drummer for punk band 10lec6). the pair met in 2001 through a mutual love of no-wave and leftfield disco. in 2003 jess came upon a big collection of library music, which he bought for next to nothing. whilst he was ciphering through it and finding the most interesting extracts, alexis was digging in all things cosmic, where along the way he also started to pick up many bits and pieces of obscure mood musics. in 2007, they put together some of their best space disco treasures giving birth to the highly acclaimed space oddities project released last july. as the first episode of space oddities was reaching to an end and following the amazing feedback they received, the parisian duo started working on the next volume in the heat of 2008’s sunny days. a new direction was chosen: more organic, guitar lead and psychedelic than the previous one, still focusing on the dancefloor and their love for freaky synths and fierce beats.

entertainment is a duo. im a cliché is proud to release their very first e.p on september 29th. juan de guillebon is the bass player. he studied a lot jaco pastorius, but decided not to spend the rest of his life playing in jazz rock combos. you can easily guess his attraction to no wave bands (suicide or james chance), krautrock (his faves are cluster), or ebm and early electro (daf). alongside, hes part of the ectoplasmic band, performing as backing band for tigersushis boss joakim. antoine montgaudon plays the guitar, and we bet he would have fit perfectly in any brian enos late 70s recording. he builds endless psychedelic atmospheres with feedbacks, loops and fxs. all this only with his guitar. hes also part of my sister klaus, a project released on tigersushi (again).
