nach zahlreichen reissues seiner werke auf all saints, glitterbeat, light in the attic, stones throw und soul jazz records begab sich electronic-mystiker laraaji im august 2016 wieder ins studio, um mit engineer davey jewell (flaming lips, peaking lights) und mixer carlos nino (leaving records) gleich zwei neue alben aufzunehmen (letzterer wird ihn auch auf seiner neuen live-tour begleiten). sun gong- besteht aus zwei längeren drone-epen und erscheint vorab als limitierte lp auf klarem vinyl.

its been a year or two since we featured a 12- single release from a new project. so hear at bearfunk we are really pleased to be releasing a cracker of a track. -gong bong-. it is from the caribbean house who are a new(ish) italian collective based around the core members of billy bogus & ferderico bologna. the original is one part slo-mo disco, one part psychedelic moondance and one part sci-fi horror movie. the track begins with swirling bass guitar and grinding synth before layering on a waft of sound effects and spooky keys. if the first two thirds of the track is a caterpillar then the last third is a butterfly as uplifting riffs and swirls of layered keys bring things to a crescendo. fellow italians the mushrooms project are up on remix duty first of all. they strip back the layers and concentrate on the growling bass and locked on pulsating synth. its back to the uk for the second remix where label honcho stevie kotey gets his percussion out for a drum, timpani and swing remix. stay tuned for more from the collective on bearfunk shortly.
following up on their recently released pertiwi ep, featuring two original tracks and a 10 minute soundbath rework of this very record by gonjasufi, gamelan voices (aka nid & sancy) present their first album, aptly titled i.the result is a visceral blend of raw gamelan instruments, atmosperic synths, bass guitar and washes of asian metallophones.although the nine tracks on this album are meditative in nature, you d be wrong to assume this package is little more than new age synths noodling away. i is ambient with a raw component. it touches a nerve and it s as much inspired by the work of jon hassell as it is by coil. i will be released through gong ear and available on digital,cd and vinyl.
