here it is, the 12th record on 12records! this time with a remix edition of the deep88 & robert owens collab. a1 is jacques renault with a pure class dubstrumental remix, floor killer! a2 is time for abyssy and his chicago like remix, made in this day but with the heart and soul like it is still 1989! b1 is the one and only melchior sultana, creating a balearic anthem remix version, ready for the new summer of love (that we hope might be this one!) b2 original instrumental

stay underground it pays returns! relatively unknown newcomer modula brings us a slab of ruff n ready analog cuts, with a real standout remix from fuckthegovernment! said remix of controllo by f.t.g is so good that it is the opener of the whole record. it’s a remix built for late night experiences, one for the warehouse, with it’s wailing, ravey vocal samples and subterranean rolling acid bassline. the a side is rounded off by modulas tape mix of controllo. doing what it says on the tin, the graininess and saturation that tape production brings is instantly noticeable. while the tape mix is not as sinister as f.t.gs remix, nor as spatially dense, its greater emphasis on synth work is bound to make it a favourite for many suit fans.the b side takes on more of techno form than the a side. kicking off with intrigo (tape edits), the pad sounds give it an ethereal atmosphere, contrasting the almost militant feel of the percussion and bassline. immerso (instrumental mix) is probably the highest energy pick of the bunch, lots of bleepy synth work and crispy power claps might make this track the djs pick of the record. all in all, a top record from modula! dont sleep on it!

back at it again, taking the true essence of the “jacking” sound of chicago house and putting it’s own stamp on it is what obsolete music technology has done with their new 12&#8243,, entitled, “volatile.” warbling, wobbling, distorting, sinisterly acidic basslines abound is the best way to describe this release! for dance floors only! you have been warned! “volatile” starts off with some 707 drums intro and then fading in, is this tripped out, bubbling bass sound that sends you off a cliff! just when you think that’s all to the track, dark, melancholic pads comes in for added atmos-fear! rounding out the a-side is “killin,” with it’s 2 acid style basslines, one sounding at a high octave and the other at a lower octave. riffs playing separately sounding great, but when played together, there is something slightly, mentally off. on the b-side, “broken siren” is high energy! 808 tom drums bringing the funky low end while a short, electronic piano lick drenched in warm, fuzzy, flange effect. setting it off is a decayed sine wave, mimicking an actual alarm sound. lastly, “electric current” best describe this distorted acid bassline and its tweaking filter and resonance controls over jacking 808 drums

master londons joseph russel signs for funkdriven quirky chicago techno but a 1, drums of lagos, stands out of many. what starts like a sturdy minimalist drum and snare pattern monotrack turns inti a discotech monster all at once and seemingly oout of almost nowhere. and once the surprise swingbreak of the track gets you hooked there no stopping.

while it may seem as though it has been a quiet year in the studio for brooklyn-based dj/producer greg schappert (aka donor), his first full-length album entitled against all on chicago-based prosthetic pressings, will prove otherwise.

the globally trendsetting house and techno family that is visionquest now turns to a new pairing of sonny fodera & gene farris for their debut ep on the label. entitled ‘we work it’, the two-track affair comes with a remix by visionquest man lee curtiss. australian sonny fodera has been at the sharp end of the dance music scene for years now, clocking up huge hits both solo and with green velvet aka cajmere, releasing albums such as afterparties & aeroplanes and appearing on cajual, defected, suara and many more top labels. gene farris, of course, is a chicago house legend who has been active since the nineties, runs his own farris wheel label and has released close to one hundred definitive eps on relief, soma and many others. up first, ‘we work it’ is a lithe ritual of house funk with bent synths and slick mid tempo drums. a spoken word vocal snippet muses on the intake of various substances and the drums roll on infectiously below. it’s sure to be a standout anthem in the months to come given that vocal line and the spiritualness of the keys all around only adds to the effect. the first remix comes from lee curtiss. this one is a much quicker and more peak time bit of tech house with textured, dynamic bass and plenty of drum fills. it’s an involved, more cosmic and tense take on the original, that will build great pressure on the dance floor. all in all this is another on point package from visionquest that will get played far and wide

2 sleazy, obscure, top shelf chicago basement tracks of the highest order here, dug straight from the trax archives of 1988 & refreshed for 2015! fantasy is a creeping, sinister, rough hewn spoken word banger that has all the things we love about these tunes, dark synths, frenetic drum programming & those lyrics! classic material indeed from short lived production outfit pleasure zone. flip it over for the b-side i cant understand & an instantly familiar vibe jumps out at you, the raw claps, basic melodies & the story of a lover left high & dry recounted over tough jacking rhythms. essential! re-mastered, re-pressed & re-released with the full co-operation & participation of all rights holders.

having written the infectious theme song to the chicago party television series, we felt necessary to bring the pianist/composer into the foreground for his own proper two-parter. this very demo of -rush- made it into the hands of charles davis, who re-recorded the tune for a stray single on sutra records in 1982. included on ultra-high frequencies: the chicago party, -you bring me up- is completely unreleased and represents the pinnacle of early 80s r&b from chicago.

the ep offers up three jacking cuts of the most pure, organic, raw, dusty, deep underground house music to date. what else could you expect from three germans who were weaned on a steady diet of detroit and chicago classics from the day they were born. after receiving an 808 for his 10th birthday, one member of the faceless trio was rumoured to have ghostwritten basslines for some of technos finest during the early 1990s.
