this ep opens with a funky but chill pinched, a mid-tempo track that starts out with a shuffled beat and deep bassline before breaking down and coming back with a haunting synth that is almost reminiscent of heartthrob. the second track on the a-side, sublingual, starts out almost as stripped down before turning into a smooth dancefloor track very much in the vein of the current output of dial records.

trademark is the collaboration of tony reeves and tundra records labelmate loki. formed in 2000, the trademark project blends electronic studio craft with the live influence of their years playing jazz. trademarks output ranges from chillout through breakbeat to deep house and even drum and bass, but always with the fusion of deep jazzy chords, rolling beats and searing synths that define their style. this year sees the pair return to their roots with some deep, tech-house grooves for the discerning clubber.

welcome to rebel intelligence - the new label is ready to make you pop like it was 1984 all over again! their first single is by the uks matt whitehead, one half of signal type (along with phil bolland on the cultivated electronics label) and captures the style of early electro funk in all it s analogue glory. so good! the a sides >beat the heat< is the more pacey of the two tracks here, constantly building with vintage synth stabs and the true feeling of electro, reminding us of harold faltermeyer and all those cats so heavy influenced by kraftwerk. on the flip, >tuff city< combines classic b-boy sounds and punchy drum programming to create an authentic listening experience that will make you want to get your lino out and bust some moves. highly recommended.

paragraph number 3 delivers some deep, bass-heavy electronic funk on the a-side, with one note samba . grooving from the off-set, the percussive elements of the track wind around a solid and heavy sub bass, introducing dubbed-out horns reminiscent of slam s freelance science days. hypnotic and tripped out, slam return to their house roots.
on the aa room 2 , dedicated to one of the world s best clubs, fabric, where slam hold a residency, keeps with the stripped-down, rhythmic and gritty sound of paragraph. whilst constantly fluctuating echoes and delays control the rhythm of the track, a swirling, yet straight to the point synth creates some frenzied and panic-inducing builds throughout, leading to a wholesome and satisfying ride cymbal. room 2 is a killer, peak-time track that will be sure to induce some serious convulsions on dance-floor.

after a winter break and a with new focus on original and forward thinking house, boe is back for 2009 with one of the hottest detroit artists to break onto the scene in years. kris wadsworth is a man who truly has his own unique production style. for years the term minimal has been banded about for music with little soul, originality and that essence of dance music, a groove. kris is a guy whose interpretation of minimalistic music oozes all of these qualities and much, much more, stripped down, funked up house that takes the listener back to when house was raw, full of energy and brimming with soul. his production resembles that of an early herbert, crunching and twisting his way though drum samples and polished chords to create a sound that is simple and intoxicating yet difficult to copy. less, it seems, is most definitely more. dig is kris first four-track ep and showcases his sound through four slices of deep, groovy late night house. the first track the depths of is kris sound summed up in just under nine minutes. the first three minutes belong to a long intro that builds and builds through vox snippets, stab samples, synth chords and h-hats that ride the groove. the track breaks down only to kick back in with a chunky snare and trippy pads to whip the listener into a frenzy. macrotones is a wonky late night rhythm synth track that wouldnt sound out of place at fabric at 7am. on the flip, white bread kicks off where the depths of left off, a catchy rhythm with swinging stabs and moody chords. a growling, gut-moving baseline makes the track a real dance floor favourite. the final track on the ep is haunted house a deep houser with a delayed bassline perfect for those late-night moments.

on their introductory minus ep, click box offers a refreshing return to a bygone era of classic instrumentals, full of experimentation and passion generated by that ongoing love affair between man and machine. berlin shades starts out in a jittery minimal fashion but soon dives much deeper as the tough electro bassline expands and contracts dragging the dancer to and fro. the cascading hook and in-your-face sci-fi synth motif add a sense of tongue-in-cheek drama to a dynamic arrangement that incorporates steep inclines, sharp drops and snaking pathways. as the short staccato bass riff gains momentum and the hook comes round for the second time you just know somethings lying in wait and the boys certainly dont disappoint. lost road is anything but a blind alley, kicking off with some low-slung interplay between a two-note bassline and a whiplash snare that dishes out a serious spanking. hi-hats fizz across the audio spectrum, cleverly pitching up and down before a drunken bass sequence ushers in the main section with its sliding, twisted synth distortions primed for surprise and immediate disorientation. once all the elements are in play, the fun really starts with so many objects of interest competing for attention. the arrangement is pulled and pushed to great effect extracting maximum effect from this tough little unit. more electro flavour to the fore as the loose, broken beat intro and robot sounds of some toys make for some slick moves on the dancefloor. the retro synth riffs and dark spiralling pads conjure up images of some early 80s lab full of computer kids in white coats twiddling knobs on huge mainframe monoliths. the bouncing bass and analogue belches make this a must for all retro-tastic electro-boogie fans. the theme continues over into voxer as rising filtered bass tones playout over another trademark click box drum pattern, this time doused in heavy reverb and delay. an array of analogue bleeps, screams and laser beams keep the motor ticking over.

disco devil number 8 sees the return of the man from vienna, mikeburns, sporting 2 more twisted disco edits of the very special kind. galaktattakk on the a side, as the title already suggests is an explosive funky space disco monster, laden with heavy bass, far out synth sounds and an ethereal choir that literally besieges any dance floor. the cheerful and more esoteric theme of the b side track, earth blues disco meditation, makes it feel like the long awaited return home to this blue planet of ours, after an extensive cosmic journey.

miniminds have been making quite a noise over the last year with some sublime releases on fling recordings and picking up support from the likes of adam beyer, paco osuna, smith & selway, stephan bodzin and pig & dan, to name just a few! they continue to do great things with this excellent 2 tracker on hedgehog, a label previously releasing tracks from marco bailey and pig & dan. >overdose< is a dark driving monster, with huge funked out bassline, and builds with eerie synth lines. a sure fire peaktime smasher!

andre sobota returns to spectrum with another techbomb. black pearl takes us on a slightly tougher and germanic route compared to his previous outing on spectrum. its building synth line and driving deep bassline will have a cross over appeal to a wide range of djs. remix duties come courtesy of spektre, work their usual magic on this.

miss dica is barbara tampiÚr, an austrian producer and dj, now resident in berlin. this is her first ep as miss dica, although she previously released an ep as synth model (with vito caliente). all tracks are co-written and co-produced by the berlin dj/producer, ronald christoph. on her myspace page, miss dica describes her music as electro/techno/thrash , which neatly describes what this ep is. the tracks are well crafted and musically adventurous, and it s these elements that caught the ears of third ear. the tracks have a feel and atmosphere that evokes raving dance floors. these tracks are for people who like to let go and party, and have their neurons sonically tweaked. this record does both.

played by karotte, giles smith (secretsundaze), laurent garnier... already up to its 17th release, yore keeps rolling on, this time with a new release by memory foundation. in 1994 robert hood found his way into a dark basement somewhere in viennas suburbia. mr. hood was impressed by what he had heard, and with him a dat-tape took a long journey back to where techno was invented once. with their first appearance on detroits m-plant label 15 years ago, the memory foundation or one of their many alter egos found its way into the hearts and the record-bags of many serious electronic music lovers. in 1997, after setting up their own record labels central and together with jeremiah grow! and other releases on m-plant, 7th city or usm followed. the memory foundation now returns with their contribution for the yore camp, with their >reptiles in exile ep< they prove that they havent lost their magic touch. the track burns with electro-funk fire, with natural kit and cymbal sounds giving the already-surging cut extra thrust and the staccato burble of metallic chords adding berlin flavour. a lithe eight-note bass motif anchors the warm techno-funk of >bass traveller< as a flaring synth motif squiggles alongside rhodes chords and a boogieing clavinet line, and its easy to become so engrossed by the tunes relaxed swing that the artistry of its arrangement can go underappreciated. textbook body music, >summer visions< is an earthier, mid-tempo funk workout thats sure to get the dance floor crowded, while the light-speed closer >reptiles< blazes a slinky house trail whose fresh swing has got yore written all over it. with any luck, we wont be waiting twelve more years for the next memory foundation release

this is the first in a series of three various artist 12 inch releases, that features four of the dublin labels most trusted henchmen. puresthatreds >robbery< is his debut track on mantrap and what an awesome one it is: dark imposing bass and beats meet the sound of smashing glass, rave led keys and all round mayhem, with haunting strings that send this one into deepest hell. meeting him there is magnetize, who in one take supplied this evil vox led synth grinder in >distant observer< , with deft 808s and distorted crackling fx creating both a scary but grooving feel. rory st john pushes wobbly techno eccentricity on >dysentry<, with fluid editing and supreme use of effects proving again why he is one of the most exciting new talents around. sunil sharpes >print more money and shut up!< is a slippery mover, where a succession of unruly lead sounds accompany odd vocals and rasping hats - with a straightforward approach that will penetrate all in its way. so, four top class techno cuts here, all with their own unique character and all for peak time play.

vertex is an exploration in two parts. the a sideÆs vertex and the locus of points explore the trackier side of tejadaÆs work meant mostly for vinyl play. both tracks make good use of strong wavetable chorded sounds, which are modulated throughout. the rhythms of the chords make up the identity of the track with elements coming in and out. vertex showcases a more layered approach to take the track from a percussive to a smooth feel. the locus of points follows more of a straight up techno approach sounding simple and effective. the b-side explores the more melodic and arrangement based side of tejadaÆs work. liquid mirror is a track rich in layers. 3 modular synth layers provide the initial modulating melodic ground work which is then complimented by lush tejada keyboard work bringing the song to itÆs apex and then reducing it back to itÆs start all while backed by tejadaÆs powerful drum work. p.l.l. (which stands for phase locked loop, a process explored here) continues this theme in a less obvious way. modular synths and drum tracks start things off while midway a modulating melodic phrase is introduced playing back a bit differently every time. four songs in all showcasing tejadaÆs simple and complex approach to dance music.
