legotek s first lp is brought to you by tel aviv based dot. imagine one of those special sets. the kind of musical story that sticks in your mind for ages, you always remember and in times can scoop endless seeming power from. well this 8-tracker from dot just about fulfils this kind of stimulus. each track can be seen either as one special individual or the whole package as one big flowing journey. mixed together this could easily turn out as a live set. now then, about the unique music and its seductive vibe. staying true to the underground heart of legotek dot has managed what many aim for in effort. a vibrant, lively and deep sound constantly accompanied by strong kicks and pumping melodies. the analogue core of the story has been given the breath of life to become a classic piece of deep house history.

in about 2003 i did some work for deepfunk and northern soul legend keb darge and as was the way back then i received payment in vinyl. included in the pile was this little detroit number which i instantly fell in love with. in 1980 david mcmurray and adell shavers and david mcmurray (who went on to be a member of 80s hit band was not was) wrote and produced this amazing detroit modern / boogie 45 which for some reason suffered the same fate of many of aotn releases and disappeared from history. but thanks to the generation of collectors before me this gem sat safely in northern collection such as kebs for years waiting for its day in the sun. it only got limited play but recently the record has had a resurgence in popularity and value which it deserves. after a tip off from jason stirland (soulstax records) i found david mcmurray and it was wonderful to find he was keen to help me bring this wonderful 45 back into the limelight. so here we are…

for the latest edition of the intriguing dessert islands discs re-edit series, the label has called upon the well-renowned scalpel talents of german-in-amsterdam marcel vogel, aka em vee. the double denim-sporting eccentric drops another gem in the shape of *white heat shake it out (edit)*, a bouncy and seductive disco chop-job that makes great use of the source materials bustling groove and steamy, spoken word vocals. on the flip, lesser-known re-edit heads papi del pancake and claude von reefer take up the challenge. their *gimme what you got* has a little more deep house shuffle, but retains the key instrumentation and feel of a sumptuous disco-soul jam.
