the undisputed masters of brain-altering, transcendent electronics return with their first studio album since 2010’s further. released to coincide with headline slots at glastonbury, sonar and bestival, the chemical brothers’ eighth studio album - born in the echoes - is a magnificent eleven-track collection of lean, propulsive machine driven music. from juddering robotic funk to unhinged futurist freakbeat, icy spectral psych to rhapsodic analog synthetics, from euphoric spiritual acid to harmonic ambient distortion, the album is the sound of a reinvigorated chemical brothers creating some of the most mind-expanding music of their career to date.

nicolas villebrun, half of society of silence and acid square dance, is putting out his first solo album on fragil musique, accurately titled « snare roll lp ». villebrun only needed a couple of recording sessions during a short period of time, to put the whole thing out from a unique set up. although an accomplished musician, tite seems to leave his technical skills aside when crafting his music, embracing all the spontaneity one would expect from a techno producer. listening to the lp, the title starts to make sense. when the snares are not rolling, the smooth basslines take over, strongly dragging bodies towards the dance floor. hungry man, move into hell, a white track, and the amazing the bell glides are among those. basslines curved as a horse s behind, subtly swifting through the air, are playing around with smartly spread out rhythms and textures. tite comes up with nine commonly grounded tracks, but with the necessary talent and sharpness to produce a resolutely fine, homogeneous, and yet diversified techno lp.

number three in the four part schleiben series from emotional response arrives with dont dj and tropical hi-fi at the controls. the former is the current creative endeavour of florian meyer, founder of the diskant label and one of the more experimental and academic producers to surface from dusseldorf in recent times. he also forms one third of the durian brothers. meyers kosmose is a 20 minute piece which explores the link between polyrhythmic percussion and brooding electronics understandably, its ripe with introspective qualities. offering some contrast, northern australian producer tropical hi-fi turns in oceanic mythology, a meandering journey through found sounds, psychedelia, folk music and more which sounds like listening to sued b-sides whilst tripped out on acid.

ben cohens *voyage to rahoz* is dappled with esoteric references invoking the hazy contours of the ever mystical inner zones. it delves gracefully into these realms with the opener *momentum*, which gives way to the mind-expanding workout that is *acid dreams*, a proper luscious piece. on the b-side, *play with humanity* is built around elastic percussive elements and an enigmatic looped-voice. the final cut is an adroit, if not buoyant, rework by the moscow’s top producer anton zap.

autoroutes ii by pamplonas iii3s (aka supersobresaturado) is the soundtrack for a 21st-century trip interconnecting continents and generations of acid-house lovers and ravers. this record is a hard-driving journey into (ph)uturistic sounds that takes it back to the old school. iii3s knows that the best road-trips begin and/or end in chicago (which is, after all, the start-point of the legendary route 66) and he knows the start-point of any journey into acid-house is chicagos phuture, the legendary masters whose *acid trax* created the genre in 1986. and so he is humbled to get remix support on this special edition vinyl release from none other than phuture members lothario lee, dj spank-spank, and ron maney aka dj skull.

finally hydergine joins the knotweed records family! hydergine (aka roberto corizzo) is a techno producer from southern italy. he is best known for producing raw dub techno, and has come up with a string of fantastic releases in the last 3 years on labels such as separate skills and ranges.we have been talking to each other since the early days of knotweed records, trying to find the right tracks for the label. roberto approached us at the beginning of the year with some tracks that were a bit -different- than his usual productions: he was experimenting, and we liked it a lot. that s how the gamma experiments e.p. was born.the a side of the gamma experiments e.p. is a heavy atmospheric techno bomb. both tracks on the b side have more an acid feeling to them, incorporating weird arps, rawness and pad trips.enjoy the ride!
