well cut records is the new label project from danny ward, known mainly for his releases and productions as moodymanc, dubble d and as part of 2020soundsystem. the label aims to be a showcase for various production projects and collaborations from danny and to live up to its moniker by releasing records that will appeal to the more discerning record buyer and dj by staying true to the roots and aesthetics of house music whilst exploring its many shades and colours! this debut release perfectly captures the well cut approach, pairing two moodymanc productions on the a side with an equal amount of collaborations between ward and newcomer lenny middles

after being stuck on dusty old reels since 1978 here comes an alternative cut of *saturday nights the night*, and then boom, its flipped with the killer mid-tempo cut of *i cant turn you loose*.

title track don t stop is a loose and playful thing that chucks loopy, circular drums, little vocal riffs, synth stabs and tumbling toms into the mix and lets them all groove along for almost six infectious minutes. its a spritely, silvery and slithering concoction that makes you shake your every limb. stare is a deeper, darker thing with rattling snares rolling over flappy kick drums and wobbling synths ducking in and out of the space left behind. its a tumultuous, drum lead affair that toys with your expectation, threatening to drop or explode but never quite doing so, instead keeping you right on the edge of your seat throughout. the final offering is nian which again has super well defined drums and hits all tumbling and sparking off each other. it s spacious stuff, too, and the indecipherable foreign language vocals add another layer of intrigue to what is already a fascinating cut.

rhythm plates re-emergence through their pressed for time label continues apace on this second release, a split 12 inch that pairs a new cut from matlocks finest with solo productions from ant plate as yse and yse saint laurent. hissy warehouse beats, simple chord vamps and rapturous oh-vocals characterise yses dryish yet muscular 99% invisible, whilst plates yse saint laurent contribution when you love me pairs some r&b vocal sampling with drawn out synths and wispy percussion placed on top of a grooving bassline similar to bernard badies 09 mojuba hit move to the beat. rhythm plates submission, i think i ve dreamed this before adds a warming calmness to the ep, allowing a spirited synth line to traverse its arrangement like a geisha float-walking through an japanese garden of snowy arpeggios and moss covered basslines.
