the 1980s. neo-liberal excess. crumbling communism. military juntas ruling with an iron fist. and of course, freaked out music. contort yourself are turning back the clock and returning to an unholy fount of inspiration with -80s underground cassette culture volume 1. a buffet of beaten up and brutalised tracks are on offer from unknown outfits and respected experimenters. across two lps expect to find noise reductions, post punk bitterness, no wave grunts, distortion soaked strings and vocals lost in a hail of pain. a road map into the weird and wild world of diy back alley artists who, armed with only a tape and an idea, gave the established music norms a sharp fist to the throat.

this vibration is cast into new dimensions. liberating eros, it circles the globe, backwards and forwards, flowing to and through us. it is said the artist has a gift— suited for the erotic life of property.
on eros in arabia, richard horowitz channels this vibration and bends bandit sounds by pairing the ancient ney cane flute with the prophet-5 synthesizer. interspersed with other instruments and ideas, like echo delayed moroccan drumming and self-made magic, these elements deal in duality like the ever-shifting characteristics of the composer: the hollywood horowitz who scores films like the sheltering sky and any given sunday, and the morocco horowitz who founded the gnaoua festival in mogador, attended by 500.000 people every year.

just a few months after its first release, nitsa traxx comes back with a very special 12”. the project started with a file exchange between eduardo de la calle and ferenc. they decided to work each track on their own side using only a few isolated sounds from the other. this way none of the tracks could never be treated as a full original, but proper remixes of tracks that never existed, building an uncanny, almost dreamlike emotion. a side is for ferenc’s “parón largo”, where synthetic strings are omnipresent and time and space unbends, evolving to an anticlimax where an eerie vocal and the longest possible drop are the leading trademark. a never ending and emotional standstill that goes deeper than the mariana trench. eduardo de la calle uses his distinctive signature sound in the b side. “cloaking tech d fly d” is an obsessive yet beautiful track that reminds us of the somewhere in detroit series. this is a mental and heart-warming tribute to the motor city sound that just a producer like eduardo could do. next releases are on the corner already, and we can’t wait to share them with you.
