mit death s prozession erscheint das vierte album der kalifornischen stoner-metal band saviours. nach crucifire (2006), into abaddon (2008) und accelerate living (2009) lassen es die saviours scheinbar etwas ruhiger angehen. strotzen die drei ersten alben nur so vor anleihen aus dem black,- doom,- und death-metal-bereich, besinnt man sich nun wieder auf seine wurzeln und laesst verstaerkt den stoner und doom-einfluss in den vordergrund treten. oder wie schlagzeuger scott batiste erklaert: -der haupteinfluss auf dem neuen album war, dahin zurueckzukehren, wo wir herkommen: black sabbath, iron maiden, motoerhead, thin lizzyÉ- trotzdem ist der sound immer noch unverkennbar der der saviours, roh, laut und scheppernd.

stevie ray vaughan war ein amerikanischer blues/ bluesrock-musiker, der oft in einer reihe mit jimi hendrix, johnny winter , ... genannt wird, die schon gut 15 jahre vor vaughans kommerziellem durchbruch das genre des blueslastigen rock gepraegt hatten. der grammy-gewinner arbeitete fast ausschlie§lich mit traditionellem rock n roll-instrumentarium der 50er und fruehen 60er jahre, erweitert um die psychedelischen (analogen) effekte der hendrix-aera. die extrem erfolgreiche karriere endete abrupt vor 20 jahren durch einen hubschrauberabsturz.

bruce springsteens heartland ist new jersey. das von conor oberst nebraska. und thees uhlmanns herzland heißt niedersachsen. und wie seine beiden kollegen ist auch der tomte-saenger gefangen zwischen liebe und hass fuer die provinz. so etwa im song -lat. 53.7 lon 9.11667-, der gleichzeitig lob- und abgesang auf seine heimat ist. uhlmann legt auf seinem ersten soloalbum mehr wert aufs storytelling und nimmt einen mit auf eine reise von paris im herbst bis nach rom in truemmern, von guenter grass zu jay-z (mit casper). in uhlmanns herzland ist platz fuer nackte priester und aufgemotzte autos. der rock ist weniger indie, gibt sich stattdessen breiter und opulenter. es muss nicht immer die gitarre sein, die den weg vorgibt. warum nicht mal ein klavier? oder ein beat? ein bass, ein paar blaeser? oder alles zusammen? insgesamt mehr us- als brit-rock, mehr tamtam als tomte. uhlmann und produzent tobias kuhn schoepfen aus dem vollen und klopfen an den wall of sound, bis es staubt, kracht und wackelt.

bei -celestial vibration- handelt es sich um das 1978 erstmals veroeffentlichte debuetalbum von edward larry gordon, der vor allem unter seinem pseudonym laraaji bekannt wurde. entdeckt wurde laraaji von niemand geringerem als brian eno, der ihn in einem new yorker park hat spielen hoeren und 1980 auf seinem album -ambient 3: day of radiance- weltweit bekannt wurde. gordons hauptinstrument ist die zither, die er bisweilen elektrisch verstaerkt und wie ein klavier spielt. 1943 in philadelphia geboren, studierte gordon musiktheorie, bevor er nach new york zog. -celestial vibration- erschien 1978 in einer auflage von 500 exemplaren und war quasi seitdem nicht mehr erhaeltlich. die zwei je 24 minuten langen stuecke des albums haben trotz ihres jazzhintergrunds beide einen sehr meditativen charakter, wobei das zweite rhythmisch und kompositorisch ein wenig anspruchsvoller ist. gordon, der in monroe, new york, ein aschram gruendete und mittlerweile einen lach-meditations-workshop betreibt, hat seit seinem debuet mehr als 50 alben mit meditationsmusik veroeffentlicht.
