“last days and time” is the third studio album by american r&b group earth, wind & fire, released in 1972, their debut album on columbia records. it was recorded at the legendary sunset sound studios in hollywood, california, with founder and multi-instrumentalist maurice white, verdine white and philip bailey. due to their live performances it cemented their status as the main funk band and set the stage for the band’s blockbuster breakthrough. songs on the album like “make it with you” (originally from bread) the pre-“brazilian rhyme” powerful funk sax style “power”, (which sounds like an early version of “serpentine fire”) and “remember the children” are excellent examples of the great songs and albums they have made during their career.

with his project fred und luna musician rainer buchmüller (sugar ray buckmiller) from karlsruhe, germany is paying tribute to his favourite electronic oriented music by using its characteristics like repetition and beautiful melodies, putting them in a contemporary context and preserving their subtle and seductive charm. fred und luna play their self described elektrokraut (concerning songs that are basically kraut mixed with electronic elements) and krautelektro (which is elektro mixed with kraut elements). they live in karlsruhe which, like düsseldorf, lies next to the river rhine. perhaps karlsruhe is the new (neu) düsseldorf, with fred und luna (as pioneers/vanguard).

rustling pillows, irate flamingos, drums thumped feverishly in basements. tweaked cassettes, noisy buses, restless hands tapping dashboard rhythms in thick dusk traffic. found sound, musique concre&#768,,te, stuttering drum loops forged in twilight boredom — hyperedited into ruminative dance collages. pillow by mischa lively (ne&#769,,e barton, blake): 4 songs, 25 minutes, a hybrid of exertion and uplift. pillow marks both the nashville native’s debut for racecar and the denouement of an evolution. once rigidly stuck to notions of how rhythm should be utilized — barton is a trained percussionist — the producer eventually realized the potential in limiting himself to a minimalist diet of new and archived drum loops from which to build songs. studying myriad treatment techniques, barton then executed a vision unmoored to binary ideas about “live” versus “electronic,” blurring lines as he composed with an ear for idm, dub, techno, and ambient music. hence pillow: a vast assemblage of rhythm and sound performed to mirror the spirit of dance records. indeed, the 12” is as ripe for warehouse parties as meditative nights alone, headphones affixed, candles lit, marveling at the mysteries humans conjure with physical limbs. “rhythm is instinctual to me,” barton remarks when asked about his preference for recording analogue patterns versus beats sourced from 1s and 0s. “and i dislike sitting nearly as much as working from computers.” movement, then, is a virtue to barton, and in mischa lively he’s found a taut, elegant, propulsive vehicle in which to explore it.

they say you have your whole life to make your first album, years upon years of growth, learning and experience filtered into one perfect record. your debut is supposed to be the one you labour over, while the follow-up is meant to be served up within spitting distance of the last. well, not if you’re london based wild palms. “we did that in reverse,” explains the band’s sardonic, quick-witted frontman lou hill. “the first album was just the songs that we would play live, we wrote it really quickly. but this one took ages...” five years in fact.
recorded by the band in the same self-built manor house studio where they made their 2011 de-but ‘until spring’, the new album ‘live together, eat each other’ is a lusciously layered offering of hazy experimentalism and off-kilter alt-pop, that follows in the auspicious lineage of beach house, cocteau twins and tv on the radio.

longstreth lud bombino in sein applehead studio in new york ein, um gemeinsam an “azel” zu arbeiten. und dabei erwies sich longstretherwies als fantastischer produzent. er hat großen respekt vor der musikalischen tradition der tuareg und führte die sessions mit sanfter und geschickter hand. fans von bombino und tuareg-musik werden ein paar bemerkenswerte innovationen auf diesem album entdecken. die erste neuerung ist die einführung eines völlig neuen stils, für den bombino hier pionierarbeit leistet. die sonnige mischung aus blues/rock und einem reggae-onedropandbounce-beat nennt er liebevoll “tuareggae”. eine weitere neuerung ist die erstmalige verwendung von westlichen vokal-harmonien in tuareg-musik-aufnahmen (durch longstreths einfluss), was den songs eine völlig neue tiefe und farbe verleiht. “azel” ist der name einer kleinen wüstenstadt, nur ein paar kilometer von agadez entfernt

in seiner glanzvollen karriere remixte er bereits lcd soundsystem, depeche mode, coldcut, the xx, moby und viele andere. mit seinem label turbo verhalf er neuen künstlern wie duke dumont, chromeo, gesaffelstein oder boyz noize zum durchbruch. außerdem arbeitete er regelmäßig mit koryphäen wie james murphy und pusha t zusammen. auf no fantasy required erhält er nun verstärkung von hudson mohawke und jake shears von den scissor sisters. mit no fantasy required hat tiga in zusammenarbeit mit erfolgsproduzent matthew dear und dem finnischen genie jori hulkkonen (der auch live mit ihm performt) eine platte geschaffen, auf der er sich ehrlicher, offener und verspielter fühlt, wie er sagt. es hat immer eine sehr fruchtbare kreative spannung im herzen von tigas musik gegeben: auf der einen seite ist er der underground techno don, auf der anderen seite wohnt ihm eine pop-sensibilität inne, die es ihm ermöglicht herausragende songs zu schreiben. es ist diese dualität, die ihn zu einem der fesselndsten charaktere der elektronischen musik macht.
