having finally woken from our deep winter slumber, team fancy human shuffle in through the door of 2016, in need of a shave and a coffee, clutching the newly minted test pressing of the first full release from london duo and co-founders lucatwana. the normally work shy combo deliver to you fh003, or under it s more catchier moniker, city droids. if they d have got it done quicker, we might have been able to cash in on the stars wars related hype, but never mind. anywho, city droids takes the form of three originals, beginning with the uplifting funk of city fucking, moving through the tougher and darker grind of droids on roids and ending with a nod to detroit with nobody knows. pleasingly, we also have a fancy human favourite tigerskin on remix duties, with a smooth, driving, hypno re-imaging of droids on roids that hits the nail firmly on the head.

the true definition of a “rare-groove”, “windy city theme” is a triumphant, funky paean to the spiritual home of the blues, jazz and house music. often closely guarded by the rare record cognoscenti this scarce 45 on the chi sounds label was originally released in 1976 and became a solid staple of london’s underground rare-groove scene, finding favour with dj’s like norman jay and giles peterson with the track even appearing on their groundbreaking “journeys by dj” mix. b-side cut “show me the way” is not to be overlooked either, a smooth, stepping soul number with lush orchestration and yearning vocals featuring the amazing arrangements of the chi-sound orchestra, sounding like a beautiful cross between mfsb and marvin gaye. an utterly essential 45 for any serious soul or funk fan, legitimately repressed and remastered with love on dinked 45 for 2016.

here at bearfunk we have been pretty busy as of late it was a casual visit to geneva just like any other. we had just finished a buzzing set and soon after we found ourselves talking to a five bearded academic types. it turns out they were a bunch of theoretical physicists out on a cosmologists night out. they work them hard at cern and that day the large hadron collector had been a real beast rebooting five times before lunch. they were pissed off and needed a new challenge. we offered them a job on the spot and they promptly moved to our london hq working on a wage of tea, vinyl and nandos. we set them a challenge. build us a time machine! they started soaking up all those bearfunk-groove-boson particles and. you know what? they did it! a time machine of our own. our first task, jump back in time to 1985 and retrieve us something really cool. set controls to the manhattan office to celluloid records. fresh from their hit with herbie hancocks rockit, spearheading rap with fab five freddys change the beat and afrika bambata stompers the legendary label is preparing to release the debut album from nyc-paris emigre lord funk.

sami baha is a young producer from istanbul, with his roots in the turkish hiphop scene, who has been stealthily pricking up ears with guest spots on rinse fm and nts since he moved to london last year. he started this ep ‘mavericks’ while he was in istanbul, saying “the music i produced became more chaotic as istanbul became a harsher place both politically and economically. i didn t really design it that way, but i feel like the sound got more aggressive over the years”. he describes his music as ‘instrumental trap‘, but instead of trap vocals there are complex arrangements, although he has started to work with vocalists while he’s been in the uk.

key artist of the lumie&#768,,,,,reslanuit (lln) booking agency, david is also becoming a key artist for the label. right after his remix of roisner s piano roll ep (lln003) for the london-based label first year anniversary special release, david k is back with a solo ep: wrung door (lln004). according to david: wrung door oscillates between cold and warm, deep and groovy universes with a strong industrial touch, whereas lightly dark mimics the musical elements of wrung door but uses them in a different way in order to guide the listener to a different world. finally, broken swatch is a rather narrative and lyrical track. in summary, wrung door (lln004) gathers in one ep the two different sides that lumie&#768,,,,,reslanuit aims at developing: one refined and crisp and one dancefloor-driven.

famed for sets melding house, techno and bass, klose one is one of london’s most respected underground djs, having earned himself the unofficial title of “the dj’s favourite dj,” the swamp81 affiliated producer is stepping out with one one one, a new project and label in collaboration with classically trained german composer and producer claus fuss.

torrential results from the orderly geometric spatial arrangement of sounds and pulses within the internal structure of these new tracks. the rhythmic structure is based on regular internal tonal or sonic arrangements that are often expressed in the sub-geometric frame of club tracks. even when the audible grains are too small to hear, or are irregularly spaced, the underlying sonic structure is always effective - and can be determined by meticulous diffraction.
