number three in the four part schleiben series from emotional response arrives with dont dj and tropical hi-fi at the controls. the former is the current creative endeavour of florian meyer, founder of the diskant label and one of the more experimental and academic producers to surface from dusseldorf in recent times. he also forms one third of the durian brothers. meyers kosmose is a 20 minute piece which explores the link between polyrhythmic percussion and brooding electronics understandably, its ripe with introspective qualities. offering some contrast, northern australian producer tropical hi-fi turns in oceanic mythology, a meandering journey through found sounds, psychedelia, folk music and more which sounds like listening to sued b-sides whilst tripped out on acid.

hotel victoria is the debut ep from two talented editors from poland, holiday 80. holiday 80 inherited a massive collection of wax at a very early age, inciting a deep and lifelong respect for vinyl and the dark grooves. this instilled a profound love not-to-be-contained by a single genre. each song on this palette reflects that diversity and spectrum. from the smooth intro on kto da&#322, nam deszcz with its easy groove to the boogie-blaze of bez tego i owego. the rolling synth bass and sizzling strings of zabawa w stylu folk are at once dark and light in a tense contrast. as comfortable on the b2 as in the basement, we hear the acidic melodies of teleniedziela.

imagined as a sharp contrast and complement to funn citys trashy vintage vibes, darshan jesranis new cylinder moniker sets out to explore the more streamlined, forward-facing side of startrees vision, while sacrificing none of the warmth or funk of its classic influences. disco engine is a futuristic joyride which draws upon late 80s and early 90s techno vibes as much as it does disco and r&b to produce a groove which is warmly insistent, buoyant, sexy and a little menacing.

disco meze ep impresses quickly with an uptempo collaboration headed by vinyladdicted. nym is a diggers delight, looped guitars and strings with a heady solo courtesy of jean claude gavri. pixelated drop the bpm and acid with their sublime re-edit of caught up in the rapture. in contrast to the relative obscurities on the a-side, the flip is packed with time-tested, tried-and-true sampling courtesy of alkalinos day to day and the silver riders hidden rung.

music that keeps your body busy on the dance floor while it takes your mind to exotic places far away: timboletti creates a tense atmosphere between the stripped-down power of a kickdrum and the intricate network of sounds and melodies. during the titles murrakus and wüstenlauf your inner cinema will show mysterious scenes from an oriental bazaar, at the same time your body will have to deal with a pleasant feeling of restlessness. the frequency spectrum of makrovic is invaded by tripped-out samples, reminiscent of radio transmissions from some odd parallel dimension, resulting in a groove that is deep yet uplifting. barfussbravo sounds just as alien and is just as compelling, as delirious melodies and delay cascades unfold upon tight, driving rhythm sections. mollono.bass delivers a remix that is probably even deeper, a stardust phantasy flying high upon the solid foundation of a standing bass line. in contrast, carlos shifts down a gear and reflects on the multi-dimensional anatomy of barfussbravo during a smooth downbeat version.

parrish smith s debut of dystopic forbidding sets the tone of this label s impressive first release with a superb stark, acid ridden slab of body music. helena hauff adds to the proceedings with her remix of pankows >das vodkalied< taking no prisoners and using heavy percussion in contrast to a wonderfully tense set of arpeggiations, which all descend into skull crushing pressure. carrying over to the flip side are pankow, pioneers of the italian industrial/ebm scene, with two tracks from their legendary first tape -throw out rite- from 1983. with das vodkalied disembodied vocals are cut up and come from every direction driven by a raw, off-kilter energy and pounding beat. i m food for you cranks up the drive and anxiety to create a killer track based around stark arpeggiation. last of all, perseus traxx provides an acidic stripped down venting of frustrations which he spits out with vehemence.

vortex has been constructed over an intense array of melancholic emotions, using noise, crunch and melodies for reinforcement. every track expresses this in it’s own unique manner, all 4 tracks being very different from each other creating contrast and variety throughout.

365 million years ago a meteorite crashed with tremendous force in the middle of a land mass that much later would be called sweden, creating one of her largest lakes. the area around this lake, siljan, has always been an epicenter of swedish folklore, with many tales of beautiful but dangerous creatures of the ancient forests and deep vales. perhaps, then, it s no coincidence that the skies over siljan later became the focus of unexplainable sightings, or that small societies appeared, claiming strong indications of extraterrestrial activities on the bottom of the lake itself. the tales may change over time, but the mysterious lake remains the same. and now the time has come for a new tale from siljan. producer colleagues hans berg and johanna knutsson have spent long periods of time in a studio by this lake. feeling a bit like aliens themselves with their blinking and bleeping music machines, the label name ufo station recordings came naturally. little raver ep is the first release, and throughout the three tracks you can clearly sense the contrast between the scenic landscape and sounds inspired by space and alien technology: shimmering ethereal melodies over classic, very fulfilling drum machines. the melancholic singing of space whales over deep and bubbly analog basses. the little raver ep is a house music ufo destined to arouse wonder and astonishment on any dance floor.

side a: palace of change. written in 2011 this one is from the vaults, it came at a time when i wanted change in my music to break away from being diamond eye and move to a more upbeat and uplifting sound, while retaining my signature spiritual and thoughtful approach to music. side b: auf deutsch. an out there rhythm structure that encompasses the half time approach to techno, a contrast to the a side, this has a more lean back and shoulder movement groove, suitable for either side, but can t have light without shadow.

a diverse and damaging three track ep from bone, exploring and exhibiting detroit techno musically, figuratively and spiritually. a1. here to stay (won t fade away) a nod to detroit as an ever-present - a marker by which others are measured, bone s first track on the detroit ep, here to stay (won t fade away) makes a statement above and beyond just being a fine example the music it refers to. the sumptuous melody that opens the track is accompanied by a substantial yet soft, almost warm, kick, a combination that somehow provides an atmosphere and depth way beyond merely the of the sum of its parts. more rolling percussion and drums are crisply ushered in before the here to stay (won t fade away) vocal begins looping over the composition. linear, straight up loops, grooves and rhythm give a consistent sense of railroad-esque motion atop of an ever-present vein of lush synth and melody. a track that is certainly here to stay. a2. detroit is ... soul with more of an emotional focus than symbolic this time, it s clear this one is from bone s heart. detroit is ... soul, ducks and weaves in the grey area between house and techno, the initial percussion that is brushed over the kick giving more of a house swing than a techno groove. the on/off, cut-and-dry synth chords contrast with the looser fluidity in here to stay (won t fade away), and gives a real sense of intent and desire. the real focal point however is the profound vocal that comes swirling over the top, -detroit is what i love, detroit is what i need, detroit is where i m from, detroit s the air i breathe?- no explanation necessary. b. detroit is ... hard bone rounds off part 1 of his detroit ep with aplomb. where the previous two tracks have drawn on the emotional and symbolic significance of detroit as a place and as an ideal, detroit is ... hard, cuts straight to the chase. utilizing the same vocal sample as detroit is ... soul, bone feeds things through the grinder and comes out with a late night dancefloor destroyer that blends millsian fury and red planet mystique with the archetypal subject detroit aesthetic. chaotic arpeggiated melody, indignant claps and breakneck drums and percussion are the chosen company for bone s words on this flipside to detroit is ... soul. detroit is ... hard, undoubtedly to become a mainstay for sweaty after-hours affairs the world over

bart skils returns to drumcode with his third solo release, shadowprint. consisting of barts famous rolling drums and bass rhythms he has crafted an ep that is exceptionally functional. with each track bart has added character by introducing vocals, interesting melodies and deep percussion to keep it interesting. the ep is made up of 3 peak time tracks that are eloquently put together. my part of town is a bit deeper from bart and contrast s well to the rest of the ep with it s melodic bass line

in contrast to his *heart* release, scrases *another* ep provides a dark and twisted journey down more alien avenues - the streaming melodies & warm atmospheres of the previous ep supplanted by arcane wooden rhythms and mechanised bass movements. *another* delivers a slab of crawling, warehouse-weight with an eastern flavour, *movon* provides a minimal take on uk bass music fine-tuned to devastating effect. the three percussive tracks littered throughout the release explore a very different angle, combining dusty wooden rhythms with dread-filled tones and complex manipulations, lending the diverse collection of tracks a strong ritualistic feeling, topped off with a brooding remix of the title track by the ever consistent irish techno duo lakker.

now ovo, the eagerly awaited new luca bacchetti ep, is here! with this work on his endless imprint, luca seems to be delineating a new soundscape, maintaining the psychedelia he introduced into his productions a few years ago, but now more synthetic and in some ways even minimalist. in ovo we can find a brace of dancefloor tracks, no gravity and the space between us, that maintain and harness luca s emotional and intricate atmospheres whilst also employing powerful sounds and elements that embrace the movement of the body. mature, emotional techno, where ethereal dream-like atmospheres find a singular expression and their own distinct identity. it is no coincidence that the whole ep was recorded entirely high up in the tosco emiliano apennines: a place where, for luca, nature is the element that most influences this new aural pathway. as he himself states: “it’s this contrast between isolated lands and the chaos of the big city that produces this state of being: a new dialogue. they are two worlds which overlap within my soul: when i’m in new york i think of these mountains and when i’m here i think of the bustle of tour life .. but it’s up here that i find the seed, in this case ovo.”

fleetwood mac is a band with many faces. in contrast to their poppy sound of the 70s, fleetwood mac actually started out in the sixties as a psychedelic blues band under guitarist peter greens lead.
pious bird of good omen was originally released in 1969 as a compilation of the bands bluesy roots: their first four uk singles and their b-sides and two tracks by bluesman eddie boyd with fleetwood mac backing. the albums sound is laidback, down & very dirty, featuring scorching cover versions of little willie johns >need your love so bad< and robert johnsons >i believe my time aint long<. the b-side features the international hit single >albatross< and peter greens composition >black magic woman<, the latter being popularized by santanas version in 1970. this album is a must-have for blues fans. anyone interested in the roots of fleetwood mac might discover they are essentially a totally different band than one might think.

every label needs a strong summer release and we are pretty sure we found ours for this summer. from the very first second we heard this demo from stockholm based producer claes rosen (1/2 of dubstep duo l-wiz) we knew this would be one of our fave releases on local talk. seriously, its a real beauty! with a slight r&b touch, melodic chords and thumping house rhythms both tracks have that perfect contrast of soulful deepness and an uplifting feel. on the a-side daydreaming is a club friendly track with a bumpy house rhythm and smart r&b samples…the perfect summer tune! the b-side with wonderful is exactly what is says it is…wonderful! it is deep soulful house at its very best and music that puts a smile on your face every time your hear it. all in all its a fantastic package of exquisite house music ... enjoy the summer folks :)

the mysterious duo strangers in heaven strike back on souvenir! after their first highly acclaimed release last year and their remix of souvenir bosses, tiefschwarz, the boys return with a strong two tracker. first track, set me free, is a deep groover which features jonny cruzs incredibly melodic voice. the same track gets a decidedly deeper once over from none other than, eric volta (ellum, visionquest). on the flip, the future is a miami bass vs. techno tune with some real old school house feeling injected into it, featuring the unmistakable voice of the wondrous navid izadi(wolf+lamb, soulclap).

the revenge has created a devilish duo of *lose my head* dub remixes to contrast against the funky original from brooklyn synth-pop quartet body language. relentless builds, tight drum kicks, and a hypnotic 303 bass-line create a perfect detroit house beast named dub 1. his equally naughty brother dub 2, will transfix you with throbbing chords and tight percussions, building up to an epic swell of dance-floor mania, beware of the insanity-causing drop!

having established his own basic grooves imprint with a trio of sultry new jersey influenced house releases, shane linehan hands the fourth release over to up and coming french producer janeret. *hard deep* goes even, ahem, deeper that linehans efforts for the label, combining a slamming mid-tempo kick drum with crisp and cavernous dub piano chords and the subtlest of organ riffs, making a nice contrast to the more upbeat styles of linehan. on the flip, linehan delivers his own version of track which ups the tempo and offers a ravey, pitched take on the originals simple one chord piano line, complete with bristling hi-hats and warm pad breakdown.

3 chairs, omar s and patrice scott. this limited ep is testament to the wild basement energy that has culminated from these nights, beautifully pressed on wax for this first ever vinyl outing. remember is a swinging downbeat vocal track based around a superb vocal improvisation from newcomer chris raine. an ambitious opener, this is fine uk hip soul with warehouse dancefloor swagger to boot. next track, the benji b endorsed cookie strips the vocals right down into a swirling motif of sunrise energy. this track sounds great on the radio, but will also find favour on the more discerning soulful floors. for a contrast flip over for the kraftwerkian micro-tech of contact to hear what a werk party sounds like at a hazy-eyed 3am and finally, as if all this wasnt enough check out the dubby, spaced-out brawn of u&me which sees second outing for vocalist chris.... on this ep which rounds things off nicely. for fans of firecracker, exit records and prime numbers, this exciting and multi-faceted ep marries uk and detroit influences with consumate ease. one to watch... plays/ supported by benji b, rahaan, kev beadle, burnski, kevin reynolds etc.

with making his solo debut on ftw recordingz, elia vens only reveals a small fragment of his musical diversity. on side a, he really pulls out all stops with the track >jamon<. the distinctive baseline and the pumping kicks on this track will definitely light the fire for an inferno on the dance floor. high spirits guaranteed!
in contrast, the flying flute edit doesnt come like a bull at a gate and initially appears slightly atmospheric and subtle. the deep toms and analogous drums still care for a drifty groove and colour the track in a fragile paint of house. emotions culminate in the hypnotic flute playing right in the middle of the track which hijacks you to a journey of elia vens. enjoy your flight!

wars/when i feel is juk juks third 12 release for nommos lead tune wars is pure winter melancholy driven by dark rhythms and brooding basslines, occasionally broken down with celestial synths. slick, enigmatic and moody, a hard one to pin down but easy to get lost in. in contrast when i feel is an irresistible piece of minimal garage house. big kicks and crisp highs are punctuated with reversed strings. all this is scattered with juk juks signature vocal manipulations.

morgan zarates second release for hyperdub is a bold and unexpected move for him. he has been known in the past as the producer for leftfield soul group spacek and also currently as one half of the shining, signed to xl records, but with >broken heart collector< he has made some highly contagious dubstep pop, featuring rising singer / songwriter / producer stevie neale on vocals. stevie warns of a guy who is the titular >broken heart collector<. her rnb vocals contrast with a fierce storm of drums and vertiginous synths that attack like waves against rocks. it is a brilliant pop song, with a chorus earworm you might find hard to resist. there is also an instrumental included as well. the third track is >crey bey<, an energetic, grimy 8 bar instrumental. it shifts between dive-bombing synths and a spooked, nervous melody over a rich organ track, with martial kicks and snares guaranteed to get you bouncing.

for now is the second ep by brooklyn duo beacon, five songs that continue the bands exploration of the dark spaces under the surface of human relationships. as with the bands debut ep no body, for now is a record that conceals a great deal of depth beneath a melodic veneer— again, there is a stark contrast between thomas mullarneys honeyed vocals and the words he is singing, although this time the mood is perhaps less sinister and more reflective.

steevio delivers the second offering in the >modular techno< series of live improvised analogue recordings extracted from his practice sessions for the freerotation electronic music festival which he organises with partner suzybee. with vol 2 steevio takes his modular jams to the next level with more complex sequencing and refined harmonics in contrast to the deliberately raw vol 1. only basic editing to extract the individual tracks from the 1 hour live sessions was used, and there was no prior planning involved other than a choice of tempo and key. each session evolved from a totally blank canvass on steevios eurorack modular synth and moog voyager.
