the first inner shift encounter with ewan jansen was several years ago on a pair of test pressings, from mike grant of moods and grooves. the label hadn t even begun yet, but ewan created a huge impression and wasn t to be forgotten by them later. ffwd to 2016/17, enter: return to hyperbola. the first track in, you get a good tech house/deep house vibe called docking lane , fully equipped with lovely atmospheres, a driving kick and intelligent chords. next is bulkhead, mainly defined by a full-sounding, broken beat rhythm and expressive keyboards. b1 is deceleration , another 4-4 deep house number, but witha subtle quirkiness and over all moody feel. on the b2 is perspex, featuring a funky bass, nice pads and elevating keyboard part. dont miss out, ewan never fails to impress.

egal 3 has returned to sov under the name of vid, an alter ego for his real musical expression. bringing 3 great tracks to your eardrums. nice!

by way of zagreb, croatia meet strahinja arbutina. his music is a mixture of noise, techno and industrial. add a 303 with an occasional memphis rap sample and you can start to describe his music. its not that simple, he also doesn’t shy away from hardcore and the absurd. whether pushing boundaries in his mixes or tape releases, you can be sure strahinja is going to be releasing quality music for years to come. highly recommended!

french label d3 elements returns to chicago for its next ep, this time looking to the assured house talents of hakim murphy for three tracks of raw, dense grooves right from the heart of the windy city. opener boxbeat is a curious, freaky jam with bobbing percussive hits, wonky, pixel thin synth lines and free roaming pads that wrap the whole thing in a nice sense of spaced-out serenity. taste o rainbow has a much more firmly planted kick drum that pounds away uninterrupted below a free flowing brew of modulate synth sounds. it s expertly reduced and masterfully reserved and is sure to send dance floors wild as a result. the flipside cut freshness has pinging drums and a big, frazzled bass line as slithering chords rain down the face. musical yet jacking, cosmic yet propulsive, it is a perfectly contemporary chicago house sound that rounds out a fine ep from one of the best in the game.
