atfc comes correct once again for his label onephatdeeva and delivers one of his most hyped productions to date. life has been bubbling under for almost a year now in its original form but its the new lil mo life mix that has left tastemaker djs stunned spitting superlatives.

detroit s new >soundshift< imprint makes a stunning debut with this intoxicating two-tracker. opening up is the soultek remix of billy dalessandro s smashing >don t sleep< release (which was found in the many sets of dan bell, ame, annie mac & pete tong last month) this mix is nothing short of brilliant and will certainly capture the hearts and sets of all those mathew jonson or loco dice fans out there. it has a subtlety that really creeps up on you and before you know it you re tapping your feet and zoning out listening to the intricacies of the music. truly minimal, there are loads of space within the track which is somewhat similar to the original but still a world apart, particularly in the fantastically eerie synth programming. in the forefront of the song is the shimmering and haunting vocal loop, >don t sleep< which has an almost hypnotic effect. (think richie hawtin in closer) the melody of the title is a delicate affair which sips cocktails in the company of some nicely chosen whirring and echoing noises. the build is effected so subtly it verges on melancholy but halfway through a rumbling bassline, appregiated melody and backbeat hi-hat pattern announce a funkier escalation!!

the first release of the now following versus-series starts with a new stroke of genius from rob acid. a trippy acid-monster with 125 bpm, that lasts almost 13 minutes. hardfloor are competing against this with a track that has been on the play lists of josh wink, david duriez and (of course) oliver bondzio, where it caused quite a lot of attention.

the original battle 12 was released almost exactly a year ago, but its taken 12 months for them to release henry smithsons astonishing take on the other half of that release. thankfully it was worth the wait. monster wasnt your typical lindstrom production in the first place, but now riton has thoroughly rewired it as a dynamic electronic house circuit, referencing the norwegian disco style with slight choral parts, tight string stings and keyboard arpeggios. the whole effect is very much greater than the sum of these parts, executed as it is with a rigorous attitude

futuro is back with a doubledecker o fclassic detroit influenced technohouse by none other than kim rapatti aka mono junk (styrax/dum) in his melody boy 2000 disguise.when sähkö was starting to release minimal records in early 90s mono junk had allready a few years earlier made an impact in the technoscene with his original detroit techno sound. influenced by the sähkö sound, mono junk released monotone fantastique in 1994 on his dum-records label (dum-014) on a limited 12inch which has become a classic. almost 12 years later and futuro is picking this gem up from kim straight from his master dat tape. newly mastered this shit rocks!b-side features 2 new productions, a perfect way to evaluate the progression of this talented finn. sound steal er is more geared towards the dancefloor, it features deep eerie vocals and machine-alike drum programming while sient mornings is more of an early morning electro crooner
