merc is very proud to welcome mark seven as guest editor on e-versions 7. it took a long time, a lot of telephone conversations, a lot of pleading, digging, sweat and tears to simply find out what tony s slice was after hearing it on mark s parkway mastermix. turns out its mkviis attempt at recreating a live mix by tony humphries he heard on kiss cutting 2 copies of the phone conversation back and forward forever. with ev#7 looming we knew this would be a perfect opportunity to have a guest on the series, so we persisted and broke him down and he finally gave in to the pressure. in addition to tonys slice, mkvii has turned in a superb acid work out in the form of case study 9. -i want to know if you have any plans for this weekend-

jongno edits is a homage to the golden age of k-pop: psych-rock, funk, disco, boogie… 60 s, 70 s, 80 s… countless hours spent getting our hands dusty in the record shops and flea markets of jongno-gu, the central district of seoul, in order to dig out the ultra-rare gems from the land of the morning calm . expect a complete reinterpretation of hard to find music, masterfully looped, edited and remastered for your listening and dancing pleasure! the first volume, a limited edition of 300 hand-stamped white labels, contains two tracks: the a side is a spacey edit of south korean ballroom disco. the slappy intro is followed by a rolling bass line, keeping the groove locked for the tape delay expeditions. side-b is a cut and paste of a classic disco-rock tune. k-pop history right here!

the ep originally released on raster-noton in 2001, it never been released on vinyl till now. and finally available again briefly on japanese label flau s raum series. new pressing now available on clear vinyl. open close open, the title of robert lippok s release, can obviously be seen in the context of daily maxims: instructions you can find on packagings, household appliances, stereo systems and other operating instructions. neverthelesss, open close open also stands in connection with making things like space and perception accessible to yourself - and therefore with the opening of a fictious memory. on this release, analogue field recordings, digital remains and cultural fragments are condensed into an accoustic space. the call of crows and door slamming noises meet looped sound pieces from a minidisc recorder and samples from a mahler symphony.

first reference of blitzkrieg waves label, a humble, plain and honest project in the hands of two close friends united in the same concept (demuff y manuel monino), which is now released under the name of heer division 1, which is the beginning point of a row of references which we will have the chance of enjoy along this year. the first one, comes in charge of two renowned and defined figures in the spanish techno scene, kike pravda y hd substance, who will lead and mark off the lines to follow in the emerging project. these artists will bring their personal and musical vision up having been supported by many important labels. in this record we will find 4 tracks, kike pravda y hd subtance providing two tracks each.

end of dayz 009 is by the mysterious 30drop. his works are described by himself as detroit techno inspired music mixed with repetitive european techno. in this release -on the next day ep- we find on a side the terror history called -they saw it again- and the jeroen search remix that is a very danceable rhythmic techno with some cosmic stuff. the b side is for -raw- where we can listen to some space bells. here is the remix by an old friend of this label, p.e.a.r.l., bringing the track into a darker place.

simodul ep is no less challenging to its listeners comprehension abilities than the previous moment records releases.
adventuring into the electronic mystic lands is vincentiulian, who tames the analog machines in his own twisted way into 2 carefully crafted tunes. simodul on side a exploits the whining oscillators to drive the audience into the energy of the simple yet hypnotizing kick. flipping the record we find alpha, enlighting our spirits with its wobbly bassline, entangled within radiant strobes of pensive rhythms.
simodul ep comes in line with the first moment releases, carving new paths into the darker corners of tech house.

london based punk duo black volume are not easy to classify. their delirious industrial post punk sounds at times like proto house and at times becomes some sort of mutant electro. their b series sound is made of a conglomerate of filthy percussions, unexpected samples and something with the appearance of melody, with a weirdly addictive result. black rubber is james brown wearing black leather at 40ºc (in the shade) while suffering a mental breakdown. excentric melodies sliding down rhythmic dislexia. negative return blooms from an improvised beat with no traceable sequence, on top of which we find rubbery synth lines, creamy interferences and mysterious sampling, everything sounds like melting from old vhs footage with the future we enter a romantic dystopia. sensual and passionate but equally crunchy, it rises up through cheap calculator arpeggios, pitched vocals and obsessive bass lines. streetfight evoques a desolate landscape, devastated and radioactive. distant echoes from an extinguished human race that left behind only majestic rusty ruins.

this record can easily be classified as library and will probably find a spot on the shelf with viberts nuggets, the strange world of bernard fevre and carpenters assault on precinct 13. listening to these tracks moves your senses back and forth through time, from 80s sci-fi back to raymond scotts early 50s experiments. the perfect soundtrack for bedrooms, late night dinners and greenhouses ed dmx contributes to a tradition in musical history, a richly vivid trail in which composers influence each others harmonies and ways of writing tunes, like an endless ping-pong game between minds and individuals but at the same time between continents and places throughout the world.

paul woolford returns to hotflush with mother & child, his third solo outing on the label following the inescapable anthems,untitled and mdma. mother & child sees woolford explore a different style and more cultivated mood. comprised of two variations on a theme, the lead cut combines both sostenuto and clipped strings in an overarching and evolving melody. theres a sense of menace and foreboding, yet the record’s heart belongs, as ever, strongly to woolfords home turf - the dance floor. this newfound contemplative air is brought to the fore on mother & child divided as he strips back all rhythmic elements to leave a beautifully sprawling tapestry of strings and synth alluring, dramatic and cinematic in scope. one hopes this mother and child find each other again.

karen gwyer and beatrice dillon join forces for a limited 12- release on alien jams. both artists find themselves deeply ingrained in london s vibrant electronics scene, however these two musicians approach their sound from two distinctly different angles. dillon s -curl- combines synthesised percussive effects with dubby analogue tones - maintaining the avant garde sensibilities of her blues dances 12- on where to now? - while the synths of gwyer s -common soundproofing myths- wail like sirens before falling into intoxicating acid territory. please note that this is a vinyl release only.

the first r&b rec record is born from the encounter of two artists in the gloomy baltimore of the beginning of the millennium, after years in which their artistic roads proceeded in a very much parallel manner, without ever physically crossing paths, driven by their passion for analog instrumentation and the desire to find and create new rhythmics and sounds. it is in 2013 the two decide to join their forces to create their own personal vision of techno music and dance music in general. resulting in a hot and scratchy vinyl that combines dark, percussion sounds well known from detoit techno, with the sought after rhythmic of breakbeat and drum and base, of the british nineties. also packed with influences of acid-house, this record incorporates features of the so influential 80 s punk era, finally sinking it s roots in the psychedelic currents of the 70 s. the result is a brand new genre which is difficult, if not impossible to define. a unique way of defining dance music, in all its aspects, which is identified under the name of spaceship surgery techno.

the musical connection between berlin and detroit has always been a very strong and inspring one. jazzanova continues this close dialogue by putting mike huckaby in charge of remixing their latest song i human. huckaby is one of the unsung heroes of detroit techno. with his highly acclaimed deep house productions and remixes for deepchord, juan atkins, vladislav delay, pole, loco dice, losoul, and pacou, (just to name a few) he is more than well respected in the citys underground community and way beyond. his remix for jazzanovas latest track (off the brilliant album funkhaus studio sessions) split into two pieces on this 10inch, is a belter by all means. if you wouldnt know better,youd mistake it for a larry heard/mr. fingers production. still huckaby is putting his very own distinctive touch to this rework: a groovy rhythm section is added for extra emphasis on the dancefloor.and as the track builds we find ourselves in deep house heaven screaming for more. you better order two copies of this limited 10inch, in order to seamlessly mix part 1 intopart 2 - or vice versa

wiederveröffentlichung von mobys fünftem studio-album als doppel-lp-set mit 180g schwerem vinyl. ursprünglich 1999 veröffentlicht, wurde es zum erfolgreichsten indie-album des jahres und in über 20 ländern mit platin ausgezeichnet. mit -play- änderte moby seine arbeitsweise ein weiteres mal. er nahm samples aus folk und gospel - viele davon entstammen aus dem archiv von alan lomax - und verbindet diese mit seinen elektronischen klanglandschaften. dabei schneidet er aus den samples schleifen, die er endlos wiederholt: bessie jones -sometimes- wird in -honey- über 20 mal wiederholt und so entfaltet er den hypnotischen sog, der diesen song zum hit machte. bei erscheinen wendeten sich viele moby-fans, die ein techno-album erwartet hatten, ab und das album schaffte es nicht bedeutend in den charts aufzutauchen. es sollte über zehn monate dauern, bis sich das blatt wendete und das album sich doch noch zum absoluten hit mauserte. mit 9 (!) single-auskopplungen und unzähligen lizensierungen an tv-shows, filme und werbespots entwickelte sich das album zum dauerbrenner und hat bis heute weit über 12 millionen einheiten abgesetzt.

super deep chicago business from the mysterious doctor mixxx on the tiny, obscure trax offshoot zig-zag. originally released in 1993, this 3 track ep still sounds fresh today, in fact one could argue that people still try to emulate this style of chicago house music! deep, raw and oozing soul the 3 cuts on zig-zag 2 will definitely find a place in any self respecting house heads dj set. remastered & re-issued for 2016s dancefloors in conjunction with trax records, another dope rarity culled from the vaults - snoozing not advised!

the find of the year? hidden amongst the master tapes for that roberta flack song written by stevie was stevie s own guide vocal, never heard of until now.. not just a basic guide vocal, but a full on, passionate stevie performance that makes this sound like a long lost stevie classic, overshadowing roberta s sweet vocal delivery, taking this soul masterpiece to new heights. with stevie on drums and keys also, the master at the top of his game. on the flip side, a classy slice of philly disco, reflexed without the rather dated and cheesy linda clifford song, focusing on the killer grooves and morphing it into a horn / guitar riff laden track, hands in the air style!

over the last 12 months, new mexico-based label plastik people has put out a number of superb eps featuring little known, and hard-to-find house jams. the latest edition in their collections series continues on a similar theme, and opens with the undulating boogie bass, drifting chords and wild organ solos of kerri chandlers 1999 cut * we can* (initially released on black vinyl, fact fans). on the flip you ll find the classic u.s garage/soulful house of andre wade & company s brilliant * bend over* - all woozy chords, chunky beats and rich organ lines - and the new jersey style garage bump of madagascar s overlooked *i never thought (homegrown dub)*.

amphia celebrates its 10th release with a two-tracker ep from cezar lazar.
both tracks reflect his signature sound, taking time to evolve into soundscapes that expand outside the familiar borders. the latin american influences embedded in * choice of ancillaries* leave us hints of its vivid melody surfacing beneath its tight percussions. on the b side we find its darker counterpart, * grounds and shields*, treating us with a more acoustic flow, sewn graciously around the incisive bassline.

vent looks inwards to its core and delivers seven meditations from label curator and manager tolga baklacioglu. a series of questions on the same subject: * who dictates what is a transgression - what is a sin?*. the journey inwards is propelled by tolga’s drilling enquiries. on this record you will find nameless tools and a man in the moon pulling his levers, but no answers

broken body is the follow-up to 2015s do it again single. this two-stepping banger is dripping with 90s retrofuturist sensualism, a heady and visceral latin jazz-tinged house track with a back beat guaranteed to get the dancefloor jumping. alister s trademark synth flourishes mingle with the vocals of returning collaborator rahan boxley, creeping into the mix with that repeating hook of jump on in, slim. when the beats are this infectious and the melodies are this strong, it s hard not to obey. on the flip side, you ll find the deep vibes of -ago-, an analog electronic freight train with a touch of acid mysticism, as well as -endgame-, an ethereal creeper replete with rolling arpeggios and drum machines. alister johnson is a staple of the toronto dj community and has commanded decks as far afield as the us, the eu, and south africa. his diverse production c.v. includes work for dinamo azari as well as the polaris-nominated zaki ibrahim. keep your ears on alister johnson, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

monoton ‘monotonprodukt 02’, also known as mp02, is the debut album of austrian electronic maverick konrad becker. out in 1980 it was a precursor of the minimal techno dub sound that was starting to be popular more than 15 years after. the album has been reissued by desire a couple of years ago and a new pressing is in the work. anyway it’s time to launch a remix ep with new (and not so new) producers giving crédit to the work of the austrian master. on the a side we find 3 new artists paying their dues : sergie rezza, whose debut album out on desire was critically acclaimed, abdulla rashim (abdulla rashim records / northern electronics / semantica) and also opal tapes’ boss stephen bishop own basic house. the b-side is a great megamix of the album tracks by the one and only ambient/electronica veteran scanner !

this is the long-overdue debut album by hawaiian born soul singer jesse morgan, member of the legendary mopptopps. the album was scheduled for release in 1977 but remained in the can for almost 40 years. ten modern soul masterpieces on one album - something you rarely find!

free-styling take on outsider techno & electro

the grand opening of the new label serie obscura europa sampled artists , a various artists 12 ep serie to present darkwave bands that escapes a little from the usual electronic sound of the label. on this volume 1 we will find a 90 s ultra classic darkwave hymn of the dissolved german band behind the scenes, uncomprehensively never pressed on vinyl to date. on the other hand, the polish solo act undertheskin shows with 2 cold but extremely rhythmic tracks why his acclaimed debut mini album is one of the most exciting and interesting proposals of 2015. all tracks have been analogically remastered specially for this vinyl version.

the new release from help presents works from various help-releated artists. another release from the arhus-imprint that doesn’t directly state club-proof, but still, this one wouldn t mind having a spin or two by your local dance pusher.the opening track is by central, a ripe house tune with both melodies and good-vibes - probably the closest this young man has come to making an anthem. next up is the four piece group maizena with an ambiguous rhythmical ambient-house jam from the area of denmark with the least rainfall. on the b-side you’ll find a raw and to the point recording of dj sports and c.k joining ph 1 in his throwback techno-studio in the suburbs of arhus. next up is the long awaited debut from manmade deejay, who has been cooking a floating rhythm jam for this 5 course meal of modern danish cuisine. last but not least amsterdam-based kaap joined central on a fine day at rubber studios to create this dreamy and galloping ride. all in all this genuine piece of wax is filled with local devotion and love from the help-crew. thanks for the support!

killer ep of techno-infused electronic excursions from the on-point dark arts imprint. across its 6 tracks we find dark dancefloor gear in the form of drama and far corner, with abstract science touching upon the classic uk-techno blueprint to create something deep, incredibly soulful and a little bit special. the deadly beneath is a moody, spacious broken-beat groove, and the ep is bookended by something more and orbit:28, two cinematic cuts of atmospheric electronica. technofuturism for the heads recommended.

-a new 12” from the danish label regelbau. this time the crew invites maizena to do the a-side, which is two different mixes of the track “especial”. maizena has brought the until now unknown singer francesca b to sing along. on the flip-side you’ll find

modern love very rarely reaches out to artists outside of its immediate surroundings, it’s happened just a couple of times in the last 14 years. but there’s something about philippe hallais that compelled the label to ask him if he wanted to do something together. philippe has released music on a bunch of cool labels (l.i.e.s., the trilogy tapes, delsin, in paradisum), but hearing the first tracks recorded for lighthouse stories, it was obvious philippe was hitting on something new: a kinda weird slow/fast dance music that sounded like a footwork variant sewn up with an exotic production style that was impossible to pin down. these tracks eventually splintered off into different directions, held together by a strong sense of narrative and motion harking back to a teenage obsession with turntablism, detroit electro and ghetto house, and eventually juke and grime. although he’s spent the last few years focusing on more industrial dancefloor variants, for lighthouse stories philippe turned to these foundational influences, as well as his love of mixtapes and sound collages full of unfinished ideas, skits and experiments, all things that inform the flow of this new album. lighthouse stories captures a sense of nostalgia well, but is also a futuristic vision full of that exploratory, vibrant spirit that’s so hard to find in electronic music these days. frames of reference are hard, but in places it reminds us of the dusted swagger of anthony shake shakir, the acquatic drexciyan movements of ultradyne, a loose-limbed take on shangaan, and of actress at his most submerged. but ultimately, it’s an album made by a producer looking to his personal history while forging new ground, pushing ahead with little regard to convention and ultimately ending up with something completely unique: a kind of intimate journal rendered in bright colours and odd shapes.

the second tape on legowelt s nightwind records cassette series. through his remote viewing powers danny wolfers channeled the music of saab knutson of faroe islands circa 1993. 60 minutes of nordic ambient with a disturbing undertone of dark melancholia with vague notions of distant happiness. saab knutson is a man with many issues, but on the faroe islands there is no time for issues. to stay of sound mind, saab plays his synthesizers in the few spare hours he manages to find, unmistakenly influenced by faroe s spellbinding landscapes and grim climate. though danny has never been to the islands he has a definite puzzling calling to them, a luring force, so to speak. hopefully he will sell enough saab knutson albums so he can fund an expedition and find out more about this mysterious destiny... played on yamaha dx100, roland jx3p, alpha juno 2, emu 16 bit digital sampling keyboard. ruby metallic cassette tape in luxurious faux plastic case
