its been a year or two since we featured a 12- single release from a new project. so hear at bearfunk we are really pleased to be releasing a cracker of a track. -gong bong-. it is from the caribbean house who are a new(ish) italian collective based around the core members of billy bogus & ferderico bologna. the original is one part slo-mo disco, one part psychedelic moondance and one part sci-fi horror movie. the track begins with swirling bass guitar and grinding synth before layering on a waft of sound effects and spooky keys. if the first two thirds of the track is a caterpillar then the last third is a butterfly as uplifting riffs and swirls of layered keys bring things to a crescendo. fellow italians the mushrooms project are up on remix duty first of all. they strip back the layers and concentrate on the growling bass and locked on pulsating synth. its back to the uk for the second remix where label honcho stevie kotey gets his percussion out for a drum, timpani and swing remix. stay tuned for more from the collective on bearfunk shortly.
soul jazz records new boombox 2 is a new selection of early rap music from the period 1979-83, with barely a household name in sight. featured here are some the earliest hip-hop records that came out of new york city following the enormous commercial success of the first ever rap record, rappers delight by the sugarhill gang, in september 1979. artists and producers alike tried to jump aboard the new commercial possibilities of hip-hop. by the end of the year there were 30 hip-hop singles, all released by independent new york labels. the following year there were over 100 more, and so on.
boombox 2 is a triple 180g vinyl set (+ download code) that features extensive text, exclusive interviews and stunning photography by jamel shabazz, martha cooper and others.

nice price deal !!! fernando returns to redux with his third single for the label. following up his supreme cover of >kick in the eye< and the ace >scarecrows ep<. when not touring the world as the chief songwriter, bass player and vocalist of 2020soundsystem, he is honing his considerable production skills which have been evident on his superb remixes of forces of nature (mule), steve kotey (bearfunk) and the detachments (thisisnotanexit) his also spread his wings from the redux mothership with forthcoming releases for prins thomas internasjional, solar disco and under the shade.
the new techno bomb on delude records vinyl comes from the new producer guy maik davis. the release contains the original mix of tension, a great techno bomb with fantastic arrangements and elements of electronic music. the remixes are from mike wall, the owner of the berlin based techno label wall music and marco trom, a new young producer guy from munich. the 3rd remix is produced by stevie wilson, a scottish dj and producer legend of the newer days.
mowar enters autumn with the 2nd instalment of deep floors, once again exploring the deeper grooves of techno. first up is ohios fbk, whose first release already goes back to 1996 on the legendary frictional records. with she brought me there fbk opens the dance with a solid deep dancefloor groover, driven by a hypnotic hook and infectious chords. stripped down and yet full of atmosphere. after that uks tom dicicco and italys roberto bosco team up to deliver all dem, another stripped affair with rolling drums and chord stabs, a solid blend of deep hypnotic layers of groove. on the flipside we find spains aiken with a strong detroit-infused workout, in-your-face kick drums, jacking rhythms and dramatic strings. your turntables will love it. last but not least, a new belgian upcoming producer stevie p delivers a dubbed out functional deep techno track with hip-sensitive chord stabs and a fiercely throbbing rhythm.
nang powerhouse sare havlicek bursts back into the synth-scape once more with the first track from his second nang album. sare is a firm favourite here in nang towers and the mercurial, slovenian dynamo has hardly stopped for breath since his last releases on nang (a well deserved new masters comp, a co-mix credit on beach disco and also as part of the transatlantic disco alliance ep). to remix vibe on you nang have called in the talents of fellow adriatic funkster ilija rudman, who places his seal-of-authority on the sonics and gets brassed up. uk based head of bear funk stevie kotey pairs up with this lightning-fingered-keyboard neighbour manestar to create a cool cross between haddaway & ten city. sare contributes an instrumental and a slowed down, pitch-bent, 115 bpm version. his slyly retiled nothing you can do version jumps forward 4 years to 1985, sounding like a long lost stock-aitken and waterman extended 12 dance cut. stay tuned for sare album number 2 later in the year. weve heard it.. its a goodie.
sing (if you want it) is the sixth release from the british soul icon, omar. this eagerly awaited re-issue definitely puts omar back in the spotlight and will become an essential album for any music collection. omar is often referred to as the founding father of nu-classic soul and has been acclaimed by artists such as erykah badu and mobo award winner kele le roc. omar can also count stevie wonder as a fan, who most famously said, -when i grow up, i wanna be omar-. on this album, omar collaborates with stevie wonder and a host of great artists including estelle, common, zed bias, and many more. the album also comes with two brand new bonus tracks, including the single -dancing- and -its so-.
bear newcomer roberto auser has his debut album inbound on bearfunk. whilst we prepare for that gem to drop roberto has teamed up with fellow dutchman alden tyrell for their disco house hybrid blondes and brunettes. alden has had a series of fine releases on the clone and moustache labels, here he fuses his accomplished style with the electronic wizardry of roberto. each of them contributes a spanking remix. alden is tasked with dancefloor operations and he duly delivers with his 4/4 drums, rolling analog basslines and main room swing. roberto goes for the bar mix which tones down the swank but adds in slick percussion and analog stabs for a early set highlight. label chief bear stevie kotey contributes his own version. this time around the real drums and bass guitars have been sidelined in favour of linntastic drum programming and sequenced synth lines. the roberto auser album secret carnaval is out on bearfunk in spring 2010
nice price deal !!! big room house/ electro/ dance smash. dj meeting hype! incl: tom pulse, stevie mycs, empyre one, extended mixes! the shining sun, the heat ... what you call holiday, is built in this track. nice female vocals, a fat mellow and some remixer like tom pulse
sometime chicken lips collaborator and full time disco don stevie kotey keeps the momentum going on his longstanding and ever consistent imprint by going slightly off piste with the latest bearfunk 12inch. for my friends is the work of lusty zanzibar aka alex cordiner, cabaret voltaire fan and former holistic artist, and we re struggling to describe it effectively to be honest. its a simple concoction of fluttery synth riffs and fat bottom end, but has the sort of quirky melody that you just dont expect to hear in a noo disco record, or a house record for that matter. it is, however totally infectious, and destined to be one of bearfunks biggest of the year we reckon. solid mixes come from kotey and lusty himself, and all are dominated by the riff, as will your brain be after listening to this package a few times. beginning of the night, end of the night, all night, all aboard the wonky disco train to zanzibar
nice price deal !!! this is one of the biggest tracks of the winter. a huge rework of the the rasmus 90s classic in the shadows done by two well-known producers. the limited whitelabel is comming up with amazing remixes by stevie mycs, alex m., andrew spencer & ronny rockstroh
faithful cover of the old maze jazz funk number replayed by a collaboration of atfc and inaya day electric tribal melodies dropped over an uplifting backing remix
