poker flat recordings offers up another mouthwatering collaboration in the form of this ep by mennie and julien sandre. mennie hails from italy, and had fast been gaining a serious reputation on the underground, both as a resident at club 999 in his home country and as a talented up and coming producer. teaming up here with the frenchman julien sandre, this is an international project that will hit home with djs and house lovers globally. the night riots ep kicks off with partitions, which sees the boys in sparkling form - twisting and teasing a sick groove out of fairly simple sources.arth j follows a similar path the devil is in the detail, and mennie and sandre get down to some serious beat science, punctuated with some subtle chords and vocal stabs in the process. in a pixel world’ reveals the pair’s love of classic chicago vibes distilled though french touch, bringing in a super funky groove filtered though various effects and processes, and paying homage to the timeless sounds of early daft punk. ‘no more closes out the ep with a yet another weapon - a ray of house sunshine that skips along on a fidgety beat offset by filtered strings and chopped up vocal stabs. its got summer written all over it.

riotvan, die zehnte. welch ein schönes, rundes jubiläum! die perfekte katalognummer, um mal kurz einen blick auf den bisherigen backkatalog zu werfen und sogleich nach vorn zu blicken auf die dinge, die man als nächstes in rillen pressen könnte. riotvan ist nicht nur abbild, sondern auch fester bestandteil und antrieb der elektronischen musikszene leipzigs, was wäre da sinnvoller, als erstmalig den inner circle des riotvan-kosmos auf einer schallplatte zu versammeln? rvn010 ist deshalb die erste so genannte various artists im roster. gleichzeitig aber auch der beginn einer neuen serie, die in regelmäßigen abständen die engen und die neuen freunde aufs spielfeld führen wird.

premiere bei riotvan! mit dieser ep erscheint erstmals material auf dem leipziger label, das nicht in dessen unmittelbarem einzugsgebiet ersonnen wurde. das hat natürlich noch lange nichts damit zu tun, dass es gerade in der stadt an heißem output mangeln würde. nein, diese fünf thomalla-nummern sind nur einfach zu gut, als das man sie irgendeinem anderen label hätte überlassen dürfen. sobald der name thomalla fällt, sollten sowieso augenblicklich sämtliche geschmacks-indikatoren alarm schlagen. man kennt den herren als knöpfchendreher im the/das live-ensemble sowie von seinen releases auf krakatau und running back und demnächst auch permanent vacation.

es heißt schleunigst aufzuhorchen, sobald good guy mikesh neues material auf riotvan droppt. auch wenn es schon eine weile her ist, das letzte, seinerzeit noch an der seite von filburt auf riotvan aufgefahrene -no other- klingelt immer noch als eine der unwiderlegbarsten house-hymnen der letzten jahre in unseren ohren. die aktuelle ep triggert da zwar weniger den großen singalong-hunger, formuliert aber dafür in immer wieder neuen schattierungen den selbstbewussten entwurf eines ganz eigenen elektrifiziert-verwaschenen house-begriffes aus

auf panthera krauses letzter riotvan ep äugte bereits ein kleiner kläffer vom cover herunter. das neue werk laika denkt die tradition in großem stil weiter und widmet sich einem der prominentesten vierbeiner der geschichte. laika war der erste hund im all, und es kann wahrlich keine bessere versinnbildlichung des geistes geben, der auch in pantheras stücken wohnt. die rede ist von entdeckerdrang, der ihn immer wieder von ausgetretenen four-to-the-floor-pfaden abkommen lässt. vier neue panthera krause-tracks mitsamt einem skit. dazu wie immer das artwork aus der eigenen hand dieses universaltalents, das neben seinen solo-ausflügen auch noch bei marbert rocel und karocel am start ist.
