following on from last years exceptional ‘obsession ep’ from art crime is a budding young talent by the name of will lister. originally from lyme regis, will moved up to london to attend goldsmiths university and in his spare time he helps us out behind the counter here at the shop. when he’s not here at the shop you can also hear him playing records on his balamii radio show or his monthly club night, ‘the aten’. ‘the phantom ep’ is his production debut and we’re extremely happy to be putting it out on our main imprint. the title track opens up the ep with heavily reverbed pads, echoed claps, crunchy percussion and repetitive synth stabs that all work together to create spaced-out atmosphere that’s full of twist and turns. flipping over to the b-side, ‘after the light’ picks up the pace with a driving high-hat rhythm and full-bodied kicks that underpin warm piano keys and smooth synth lines. ‘agency’ closes proceedings by turning up the intensity to full with a masterclass in building tension.

not too long ago a jiffy bag arrived at parkwest hq. in it was a scratched tdk case with a sa-x tape containing a musical message from years past, simply marked the tape i lost! we sat and listened, able to pinpoint influence and reference but yet hearing something totally new. that this tape surfaced and made it across the years and the miles to us was fortunate. when the synth part came through clear on a later version on the tape, allowing us to remix then it became destiny. emotion, melody and rhythm will always be timeless and these tracks, selected from that tape, are as relevant today as they ever were.

man power left his northern home and ran south of the border. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, he proves that he truly is the tourist, delivering what we’re already toting as our summer anthem—a relentless hurricane drum pattern full of toms, timbales and splashes that lays the rhythmic foundation for his pacific chords and euphoric melodies–an undeniable floor-filler that invites all to dance unencumbered by the constraints of “functional” club music. with side b’s oye, man power rolls out a similarly vibrant combination of drums and rhythm, however he toughens up the aesthetic with a massive rolling acid bassline, only briefly letting up for a spot of layered marimbas and spriteful pads before culminating in an emotional finale. after spending a couple years churning out tracks for various labels around the world, man power has undoubtably shifted his narrative point-of-view and updated his sense of craft upon his induction to the esp institute. these two songs will throw a wrench in your holiday.

april showers bring may flowers, but this april claude vonstroke brings you the rain break. inspired by two different songs from the 80s - (razes classic break for love and oran juice jones the rain), claude has replayed and re-sung all the music from scratch to make a special cover tune of both tracks changed and combined into a surefire dirtybird classic. to quote vonstroke, i kept singing the break for love bassline over and over again in my head but the vocal that always popped in over the top was from the oran juice jones. i cant explain why that happened but i just thought they went together so well that i ran with it.here comes the b is a much weirder affair. built with massive psychedelic effects, a huge kick and almost no hi-hat pattern, this is late night cavemen music at its best. this big release from cvs will have you wishing for a downpour so you can go walking in the rain.

news of the record first broke back in december, when omar-s, real name alex omar smith, contributed a three-hour mix for ra’s 500th podcast. the lp will be smith’s fifth full-length release, and arrives three years after his most recent album, 2013’s thank you for letting me be myself. like almost all of the detroit artist’s catalogue so far, the best lands on smith’s own fxhe records. it comprises 11 tracks, featuring collaborations with fellow motor city acts such as norm talley, ob ignitt and kyle hall.

the second tape on legowelt s nightwind records cassette series. through his remote viewing powers danny wolfers channeled the music of saab knutson of faroe islands circa 1993. 60 minutes of nordic ambient with a disturbing undertone of dark melancholia with vague notions of distant happiness. saab knutson is a man with many issues, but on the faroe islands there is no time for issues. to stay of sound mind, saab plays his synthesizers in the few spare hours he manages to find, unmistakenly influenced by faroe s spellbinding landscapes and grim climate. though danny has never been to the islands he has a definite puzzling calling to them, a luring force, so to speak. hopefully he will sell enough saab knutson albums so he can fund an expedition and find out more about this mysterious destiny... played on yamaha dx100, roland jx3p, alpha juno 2, emu 16 bit digital sampling keyboard. ruby metallic cassette tape in luxurious faux plastic case

despite only a few releases, the electronic deep house sound of vibraphone records and the production team behind it, had a major impact on the international 1990 s dance scene. the original 90 s vinyl are now considered precious collectors items. revitalized by an increasingly new young audience interest, this label has reached a cult status and it has now been re-launched via juno records. for the first time in twenty years ttusr has produced three new exclusive tracks which will be included on this 12inch ep entitled liquid time.

the duo make their debut to drumcode limited with a heavy, two track release. the ep showcases a mix of their talents and influences to create a moody, dark techno groove. the atmospheric ep is enriched with gritty reverbs and a deep kick drum and the slow, deep crescendos in each track create an intense sound. mullaert and siech prove themselves again with a powerful offering to drumcode limited.

let’s continue the edit series with a first ep of sacha mambo by is own. sacha is the boss of macadam mambo, that he runs alongside guillaume des bois, they’ve released together a 2xlp last year as macadam mambo dj’s. here sacha has digged into his collection to put out 4 edits in the “devil” vibe he loves: 2 floor burners, one german euro-disco, one scandic new wave style, and 2 dark weirdo killers with crazy vocals in a more italo way. guillaume will be on the next ep with 4 completely different cuts, surprise! but for the moment let the devil comes into your house!

2015 saw damian lazarus create his most ambitious project to date in the ancient moons, producing a full-length album message from the other side co-produced by james ford (simian mobile disco, arctic monkeys, florence & the machine), with a wide assortment of vocalists and collaborators from around the world. they went on to support roisin murphy on tour, gain wide acclaim from the likes and lazarus became the final cover-star of the year in the uks mixmag magazine. now the tracks from message the other side have been reinterpreted by an assortment of producers for a remix album. three of these remixes will be released as an ep entitled remixes from the other side (part i), featuring remixes from red axes, acid pauli and mehmet asian. the second remix ep will following in a few weeks.

for the 5th installment in the prrukwht series, spanish hardware icon eduardo de la calle returns to planet rhythm with his adept to the light ep. tr3b conspiracy serves as the opener which combines odd rhythmic arps and subtly placed drum sequences to make a somewhat uncanny atmosphere. on the b side we find ranchor will cut the mood which is a repetitive techno cut that should be useful for after hours. the doubt of the unknown (b2) has a somewhat foreboding title. it’s a fx heavy synth jam that uses oddball synthesis and nicely placed fx chains that evolve throughout.

qalomota records is back with a release from the 2 foundators of qalo-mota. as usual qm is large and offer you different type of house. for this cocktail ep you could dance on hard to get this track really influenced by nyc club scene. the old timer will pleased with too far gone reminisence of several tracks from dj pierre or eric kupper and as said adonis too far gone and no way back! to finish, the real music lovers will recognize the female singer on this remix from a classic of classic. simply few words, get fun and get your ass on the dancefloor.

gari romalis and lello di franco - dreamin for the uninitiated, our man gary romalis is the unsung master of detroit’s house and techno scene. having djed across the motor city’s top venues for the last three decades, gary is somewhat of a seminal figure for many of detroit’s djs currently at the forefront. following a slew of high quality releases on various labels over the past few years, gary now unleashes that special flavour on us for skylax 142! he is not alone though. with him, he brings all round italian partymaker, and top selector in his own right, lello di franco. let me tell you, this duo’s collaboration is something to behold. throughout all 3 tracks on the record, gary and lello maintain the essence of what the detroit underground is all about, stripped back tracks with soul that never feel like they go ‘big’ for the sake of it. while dreamin (wanda mix) may be packing a big kick and power clap combo, it’s the elegantly filtered, jazzy sample that will leave you wishing that the track lasted forever. the vibe takes a dip right into the deep in detroit underground (beat dat mix). spacious pad synths alongside a mesmeric vocal carry us through. taking a step back up, afrobeat rounds off the ep, made with a solid toolkit of afro-centric samples.

when we started heist a few years back, our idea was to give a stage to talent in a same way as we have had a helping hand by the labels that have supported us from the beginning. therefore, i’s our pleasure to share this release with you by newcomers ouer, a berlin based duo with only a handful of tracks out so far on their self released debut last year. their approach to producing is very much jam based, and with a compact collection of synths, drum machines and a fair level of distortion, they succeed in creating their own sound with hints of classic electronic music from chicago and detroit. theres a nice mix of energy on the whole ep, the ascent being the most driving track of the package. fans of classics mcde tracks will love show off with its dreamy dx7 style chords and cracking acid lines. move over feels like a jam session that was way too much fun with some lovely solo work on the synths, whereas mess around goes down in similar free-ride style on the synths and again, has some lovely sampling going on. an impressive ep were just all too happy to have on our label. sincerely yours, lars & maarten
