this release journeys to mid-80s argentina and the highly sought after 2nd solo album of carlos cutaia. inspired by the new electronic sounds emanating from europe, this multi instrumentalist offers more than a pastiche, embedding his own melancholy in a unique and classic nueva wave-album. classically trained, carlos cutaia started as a composer for dance and theatre, before spending much of the 1970s as a member of a number heavy rock, prog rock and rock-fusion bands of some note, before finally going solo with the city of distant tones album in 1983. however, by the time of his 2nd solo album in 1985, as his country finally left behind a long period of military control and enjoyed greater freedoms, carlos was fully immersed in the new electronic pop sounds imported with hungry ears from europe. teaming up with fellow composer, keyboardist and producer, daniel melero and alejandro oucinde, the futurism of kraftwerk and gary numan s tubeway army was embraced, but also adapted to fit their native land, just as it was understand a new modernity. starting with the swagger of visiones incomunicadas, the template is set. sharp drum machines, semi-nonchalant, half spoken vocals set the scene, while chopped guitar and smart synth lines fit the over riding feeling of an intelligent nonchalance. things however, do go beyond the straightjacket of euro-pop as heard on the anthemic programacion and avant twist of the first of two piano-ambient pieces aproximacion dos and its companion piece uno found on the b side). eric satie and minimalism are clearly not far away. however, it is side b opener sensacion melancolica that captures the sound to perfection. a balearic masterpiece, capturing in it s title the over-riding atmospheric of a unexplained sadness, a loss. operativo and the poem humanos de america bring things to an end of a feeling melancolica.

acid pauli is a name synonymous with certain aesthetic towards electronic music culture - both a part of the unhooked generation of that grew up experiencing his revelatory sets at places like bar 25 and fusion, and yet deeply rooted in musicality and adventurousness. bld, the second full album from martin gretschmann, (aka acid pauli), builds on his already impressive back catalogue which spans back to 2005, and includes a debut album released on nicolas jaar’s clown and sunset. over the course of the eight tracks here, gretschmann explores some of the many facets that have made him one of the most trusted artists in his field. released on his own (and nico stojan’s) label ouïe - the album is the perfect expression of the imprint’s commitment to diverse, exciting sounds, freed of the conventions of traditional club music. the album covers a number of moods and emotions, from dystopian carnivalesque vibes to moments of high intensity, through to deep melancholia and synth laden ambience. gretschmann’s well documented love of the sampler shines throughout - tracks are textured and colored with different hues from his extensive sound palette, whether it’s a part of his more psychedelic moments, or concentrated on his innate knowledge of dancefloor dynamics. as such bld sits together as a complete piece of music - to be relished just as much by blissed out home listeners as the left-field dancers.

d edges cultured off shoot olga is back with a new ep, radiolarian, from german-bulgarian stefan goldmann. again it is a perfectly well sculpted ep with deep and sleek lines that get right into your head. the man behind it is the co-owner of the excellent macro label and for more than fifteen years has released intricate house and techno sounds. he is a deep thinker and master of hi-fidelity sound design and intricate grooves, so is perfect for this label. radiolarian is first and is seven sublime minutes of tunnelling techno rippled with neon melodies and firefly like pads that burrow into your brain. it is a high tempo and high impact track but a subtle one that works its magic slowly. building to a number of peaks, it then pulls back and the whole thing starts again. on the flip, streams is freaky and unhinged, with weird synth sounds making for a trippy atmospheres as minimal beats roll below. perfectly detailed so as to work on both head as well as heel, it rounds out another fine ep.

the series go way back to 2002 and has been championed by sadar bahar, theo parrish, lee collins, red greg, hunee, antal and many more connoisseurs of all things funky. this time its again a wild mix of soul disco boogie fusion and gospel wich sets the label apart from others within the scene. number 10 is also on its way...we never know wich one will be the very final one, so let’s enjoy while it last...

politics of dancing records celebrate their 3rd anniversary with two vinyl only releases and a digital compilation of unreleased tracks from a pretty impressive line up of confirmed and up and coming producers. the first part to be released sets the pace with four deep house cuts from janeret, d julz, djebali and politics of dancing. janeret s first light is a deep, bass heavy number, with spacy stabs, cut for serious peak time action. d julz offers us a deep tech house killer with sharp stabs and a dubby bass, a timeless one for dancefloors. djebali delivers a fat bumpy deep house tune with his very distinctive stylish and groovy touch, and label bosses politics of dancing drops a deep tracky house piece, with swinging dirty underground vocals and a heavy rolling bassline. this is paris house music firing!

the guys at pole jam vinyl have spent most of the last year involved in an undying quest to seek out new, exciting music. they would neither be stopped by the russian tundras nor the deserts of australia in their search. funnily enough, it was actually down-under they discovered sydney based duo falqo with their brilliantly chilled and melodic number across the sea . then, it really was across the sea they went, all the way to the ukraine, picking up sasha anastasov s laidback, groovy smasher sea for two . next up was a much shorter trip to moscow to collect gayana, a band very much on the rise whose since the night has been perfectly reinterpreted by pole jam s very own st. petersburg based all-stars klar&pf. pioneerball is the solo project of tesla boy s lead guitarist who makes his second appearance on pole jam vinyl. this time pioneerball contributes the stunning opening track deltaplane , a track influenced by obscure russian cinematic soundtracks. it s combined perfectly with a compelling disco groove, jazzy melodies and organic strings that will make your heart melt.

repress 2017 , allez! as the curtains come down on another crazy summer of love, apollonia drop their latest release courtesy of io mulen - the ukranian rude boy who appeared on the label at the beginning of the year with ‘unknown to the unknown’. he’s back with a hefty six-track package which is sure to please his fans, and win him a whole new army of supporters. we get straight to business with the first track, ‘rdm37’, one of those trusty apollonia bouncing bombs. skittish beats work off a sublime groove, while io keeps the background full of interesting sounds, boings, cheeps and all manner of whimsical effects, introducing more and more as the track progresses. by the midpoint you’re so gripped by the track that your whole body is moving uncontrollably, super glued to the rhythm. next up, it’s ‘xdt54’ coming through with a deep, persuasive bassline that jigs around in the low end luring you into its web. simple, polished percussive elements keep things moving at a pace while subtle keys and barely-there vocals add further layers to this catchy little number. the third track in on this lengthy ep is ‘mpc13’, a walk on the sensual side. vocal snippets are interspersed among sultry pads, skipping four to the floor beats and a sleazy b-line to create a delectable slice of dance floor naughtiness. this one flirts with you as it writhes around, taking you ever deeper…four tracks in we have ‘zgb41’, another alluring cut that has all the hallmarks of a deep house classic. those shimmering pads, a bassline that feels like it was born in nineties chicago, diamond-cut beats and a general feeling of what we would call ‘true house music’. there’s soul, there’s funk and there’s realness, what more can you ask for?ypt58’ keeps us locked in to that hypnotic groove with an insistent b-line holding things down - together with the infectious rhythm cultivated by the drum arrangement, it’s a killer combo. put those together with the smooth atmospherics plus synth lines staggering in and out of the background and you’ve got yourself a roller. last but definitely not least is ‘zxy22’, a wistful slice of technoid funk which has a delicate melody at its foundation. as it develops we get sucked in to layer upon layer of beauty, from the analogue low end to the electric guitar riff – each layer complementing the other and creating a symphony of sounds that acts as a perfect way to close out the ep and will no doubt end plenty of dj sets, when it’s released. so monsieur io (mulen) returns to apollonia with an instant classic, make sure you snap it up right away. magnifique!

overmono return to xl recordings with their second ep in march 2017. arla ii is the follow up to last year s debut arla ep and further crystallizes the duo s immense & innovative sound. this latest 6-tracker from ed & tom russell (known respectively for their solo tessela and truss projects) carries things forward from its predecessor in underscoring overmono as a fully formed & ongoing project. . nstead of searching for commonalities between their earlier individual work, overmono combines the russells artistic talents in order to reach the spaces between ambient, techno & uk hardcore dynamics that few current acts are capable of reaching. born of the brothers collective creative impulse and staking out its own defined place in the contemporary landscape of electronic music, overmono are firmly amongst those pushing the form into new and exciting places. all of this is now also being explored in a live setting. having made their debut at krakow s experimental electronic music festival, unsound in october 2016, overmono will be performing a number of live and dj dates throughout 2017.

helmed by back to basics resident james barnsley, it s safe to say vessel records know exactly what they re doing with their initial five releases including names such as daze maxim, burnski, dj honesty, laura jones and diego krause. the label s excellent discography continues in their sixth release with dan curtin under his purveyors of fine funk moniker - highly regarded for early releases on peacefrog, nepenta, and more recently bass culture. politics of dancing, known separately as s.m.a.l.l & paco, are the parisian duo behind their fastrising eponymous label, whereas british talent rhymos has quickly garnered a reputation for his compelling productions on the likes of overall music, whistleblower records and murmur. joined by barnsley himself, this four-track release demonstrates each artist in fine form. purveyors of fine funk s depth of bass is a raw sounding cut with ethereal atmospherics and moody chord sequences. james barnsley is next with his deep and trippy number titled she not fast before politics of dancing merge intricate percussion with rumbling bass in their mesmerising queens road. tying things together, rhymos gets rhythmic with jazz hand featuring acid licks and echoing effects.

ersatz olfolks signs new singular, cat number 10 with strobes & smoke ep. singular records comes back this february with mysterious french producer ersatz olfolks. 2017 is going to be a busy year for singular rec and it starts with a full analogue trip. tough at first with the driving “srobes & smoke” till the deepness of “alkaest”. ersatz olfolks makes no compromise and deliver a superb combination of force and depth throughout these four cuts from live sessions. the all thing got a 90’s sound treatment by master scan x. enjoy!

hot on the heels of the transcendental and mystical vibe telemetry long-player of the man like telephones, we proudly present: vibe remixes. some of you might notice the irony between the lines. a producer who goes by the name of call super is remixing an artist known as telephones. but, we rather rivet you on his 8:59 long skippy dub journey that recalls (pun intended) an atmosphere that could be found in the space between smith & mighty, the ltj bukem of his youth, italian house records, british balearics and bass affine music (of whatever providence). a magical mystery. but we don’t hang up here. dj fett burger is treating the other side and only he himself knows how he made what he did. 14:51 min of almost every style ever invented in the scope of house music. designed for people blessed with an everlastingly short attention span and djs on the lookout for a toilet break and a coffee break or whichever break, it leaves its listener speechless. and: its so much fun that once its over, you want to redial fett burgers number immediately.

junk project are the masters of trippy acid techno for over two decades now. they placed their unique signature on the fog and the result is a deep driving acid techno burner.
oliver kucera’s remix takes no prisoners and he busts out a fat 909 and 303 sound.
belgium’s long time producers trax x vs sinesweeper need no introduction. their large number of acid releases set fire to many dancefloors and their remix of the fog is no exception.
last but not least, roger van lunteren s remix takes it to a more relaxing level. drift away on the deep detroit sound of the early days.

claremont 56 has always had close links with japan’s vibrant music scene, with founder paul ‘mudd’ murphy making annual trips for djing and live performances. it’s perhaps unsurprising, then, that the label’s latest limited-edition vinyl release comes from japanese outfit okinawa delays, a project founded by producer, dj and long-time friend of the label takeo.
some of you may already be familiar with okinawa delays thanks to 2016’s hana, a cover of a popular 1995 j-pop hit featuring original vocalist satoko ishimine. the singer is a well-known performer in her native japan, having released a number of acclaimed records on toshiba emi throughout the 1990s.

agent provocateur is the fifth studio album by american/ british rock band foreigner, originally released in december 1984. the album reached the number one spot in the album charts in the united kingdom, and it reached the top 5 in the united states. agent provocateur contains the band’s biggest hit single, “i want to know what love is”, which was a #1 single in the uk and the u.s., staying at the top spot for three and two weeks respectively. the follow-up single, “that was yesterday”, also proved to be a sizeable hit. the album was certified platinum in the uk by the bpi, and triple platinum in the u.s. by the riaa.

the label is gradually working through colin’s revered back catalogue of cassette only releases, with previous titles the scythe and two nights selling out instantly. his run of half of a dozen home recorded, diy / minimal synth cassettes between 1980 and 1982 is rightly granted legendary status, influencing a slew of home produced diy experimental electronic artists and all attaining high collectors prices online for original copies. so these lp sets filled out with all manner of unreleased cuts, demos and excluded tracks truly are a treat.

roman flügel and andrew weatherall supply two outstanding remixes of phil kieran recent album ‘blinded by the sun’, which david holmes claimed is “one of the best electronic dance inspired records in recent times.” mixmag described phil kieran as “one of those producers that impresses with every release” so it comes as no surprise that two music heavyweights have jumped on board for remix duty. kieran accounts flügel and weatherall to both having a heavy influence on his career. german dj and producer roman flügel is easily one of the most revered names in the dance music spectrum. his take on ‘no life’ is a masterclass in production. flügel has created a track that is powerful whilst also superbly intricate. flügel holds over twenty years of experience, extensively releasing on a number of labels whilst also co-founding ongaku, klang and playhouse recordings. uk born dj and producer maestro andrew weatherall remixes ‘finds love’ and reminds the listener of how beautiful electronic music can be. combining cosmic layers with the ethereal vocal, this is a lesson in what a remix means. weatherall has been experimenting with techno since the 90s, and well regarded as one of the world’s most influential djs. kieran created a ten track narrative in ‘blinded by the sun’, inspired by his experiences in the industry. it was met with high acclaim globally and this remix package further imprints his vision on pioneering imprint hot creations.

timely outing from two grand masters of exploratory electronics. kassel jaeger is the moniker of french musician françois bonnet who works at the grm and has released a number of books including the highly regarded the order of sounds, a sonorous archipelago published by urbanomic in 2016. jim o rourke is known to most through his explorations of the song and shapes, the high and low, the east and south. wakes on cerulean is a joint adventure where process folds upon process and the operation of procedure remains unknown. amongst a mysterious cloud of excited high frequencies tiny whistling howls. frog leaps in technique lay out a thrilling and uplifting journey that runs from the soothing to ecstatic and back to the buoyant again. wakes on cerulean is a staggering feast of the joys found in electronic process. a malleable bubble of hovering excitement, melody and joyous refrain.

matuss returns to her absence seizure imprint february 2017 with ‘seizure no.6, comprising four original compositions from the new york based artist. since launching the absence seizure imprint in 2015 alongside producer friend abe duque, new yorks matuss has carved out an impressive back-catalogue with this new release marking its sixth and previous material garnering the attention of acts like derek plaslaiko, beaner, dj deep, twr72 and norman methner. once again julia matuss, better known as simply matuss, is at the controls to deliver four original compositions, the first of which la folie sees her deliver a haunting slice of tension building techno via throbbing bass, organic percussion hits and subtly evolving distorted rhythms. muirr follows and takes a more reserved strip back approach with swirling bass tones and sparse drums gradually building towards a frenzied fusion of psychedelic synth swells, vocal stabs and acidic hits. opening the flip side of the record is i hate valentines day, a murky five-minute number employing mind-bending low end drones, dynamic off-kilter percussion and sweeping atmospherics before acid slay closes, and as the name would suggest lays focus on tripped-out acid licks alongside chugging bass and minimalistic drums.

rhythm plate released one of the best releases on hudd traxx in 2007, half of rp returns under the guise of goshawk for hudd 055. matt brings astral t back with him for the a1 track and my heart certainly gives inside me a run for it s money. warm chords, lush vocals and slick beats are all laid down to perfection to kick off the ep in fine style.a2 follows the deep tones set on a1 with the wonderful high in the evergreens. the b side kicks off in a more upbeat style with yes in this way which would fit nicely in a derrick carter peak time set. goshawk finishes off with a cheeky garage number that is reminiscent of grant nelson s early work on nice n ripe which can only be a good thing.

rune lindbaek joins bastedos on this new edition featuring two tracks from polar oposites of the bpm spectrum. side a from bastedos features a pacey electronic number with flavours of both rock and disco and a singer making the asertion that i just wanna dance, i just wanna boogie, surely any listener will be left with a similar desire when they hear this at their favourite discotetheque. rune slows it down a gear or two for the flip with his version of supermann, this is a perfect end of the night track that would melt the hips of even the man of steel.

fledgling belgian artist phara returns to stockholm ltd for four track ep >paramount one<. having appeared for the label on va release >a number of thoughts< in october, alongside doka, sinful & octual and label owner par grindvik, the belgian was invited back for an extended play of his own.

hot on the heels of system of survivals latest album and exclusively on vinyl comes the d-votion ep to get physical music. the influential house duo present cuts from the album, d-votion and no time to waste,d-votion is laid out first a deep and groovy dancefloor track with low end grit and a funky swing it its step. a collaboration with salvatore stallone the track is very moving and nearly impossible to resist. no time to waste plays a hypnotically rhythmic synth over a steamy stage of sweaty percussion. next we turn to the brand new vinyl-exclusive acid house number phantom power for a heavy dose of midnight action. with a very technoid feel, the acids presence suspensefully builds a tension throughout while the bassline chugs the track further. next surfbit joins to present searching for a wave, another track featured on the album. this one shines more sun with warm synths, soft vocals and gentle melodies. the collaboration ends the ep on a warm note, a special sound for a special dancefloor moment.

“mornin” is a radical discoid track built with alien hoover pads and synthetic stabs that is both fresh and euphoric. “clean sunrise” has deep feelings for south african shores and gentle rhodes harmonies. “mannam” is a triumphant little number whilst “capasa” is a 6 min long improvised recording locked down in one take.

dope two tracker on shanti celeste s newly ripened peach discs from the lady herself tip!shanti - i started peach discs because i feel like the time is right. i want to release music that makes me happy and build a little family with all my friends and friends of friends who i know are making great music. i also want this to eventually be my main home for releases. in the future there will be releases by a new bristol duo called fred and a 12 by samuel as well as many others of course! the first release, by yours truly, has an emotional and energetic breaksy number on the a side and the b side is a more striped down-ish, tough and bass heavy cut with some vocal samples. both full of twinkly melodies and arpeggios as per usual! enjoy

a collaboration with deniz kurtel, the ep combines the best of the pairs shared ear for darkly atmospheric late night melodies. title track * here comes the rain* is a highly-anticipated release, after having appeared in a number of mixes from guy. muted piano chords build up to a layers of echoing synths and subtle vocal samples for an evocative lead track. meanwhile, b-side * an army of stalkers*, as its name suggests, is a slightly faster-paced affair with twinkling arpeggios and a subtle rolling bassline. guy gerber and deniz kurtel have previously worked together, with guy remixing her 2011 release * the l word*. they ve also performed alongside each other at a number of events, including guys first ibiza residency the wisdom of the glove. the ep is guys fifth release on the rumors label, which he launched back in 2014. it follows an incredible year for the dj and producer. 2016 saw the rumors event series go from strength to strength, with the ibiza residency gaining a glowing reputation and expanding internationally, taking in parties across europe and the us. following a critically acclaimed first solo ep on the label, * secret encounters*, guy went on to sell out londons iconic koko camden with the promise of an all night set. the release of * here comes the rain* sets the tone for further successes in 2017.

following mandingos universe ii on rekids last year the label has tapped thomas melchior and larry heard for remixes. mandingo is best known as detroit producer monty luke, the founder of black catalogue whennot appearing on labels like planet e and dogmatik. echoing synths and crunchy percussion join trippy nuances and effects in melchiors otherworldly reinterpretation. meanwhile on the flip, larry heard distorts the original into a mesmerising number featuring a meandering hook and intricate melodies.

safer at night returns late january 2017 with the vinyl only release of the deep end , featuring two original curses cuts and remixes from ian blevins and holy ghost! safer at night founder curses launched the label back in 2014 and it has since gone to play host to material from eli esobar, walker & royce, jagerverb and of course the label founder himself. here we see curses re-release his composition the deep end marking the ten-year anniversary of its former releases on institutes in 2007, while enlisting ian blevins and holy ghost! on remix duties and stirring in a new original of his own as well. the original mix of the deep end takes the lead and offers a chance to revisit the decade old curses cut fuelled by wandering bass and lead guitar licks, dropped-tempo crunchy rhythms and murky piano chords all instilled with a gritty new york electro feel. holy ghost! then rework the original with the funk-laden feel via bright chord sequences, elongated delay swells and an amalgamation of 80 s synth leads, hooky bass lines and sporadic vocal lines. on the flip ian blevins offers up his interpretation of in shadows employing stuttering vocal hits, choppy arpeggios and droning bass leads to create an emotive and hypnotic number before curses original mix of in shadows closes on a cinematic vibe with an 80 s sci-fi soundtrack feel to perfectly conclude this vinyl only 10 year celebration.

canadian paolo rocco kickstarts the new year with his &#8203,,,judgement ep on hot creations. the first release of 2017 is an international affair, with manchester born trevino and one of the most spoken names of last year, greece native detlef on remix duties. initially making a name for himself through his djing skills back home in montreal, paolo s productions entered the market in 2012 with instant international support. his releases on real tone, one records, saved and others were all met with high acclaims as were the compilations he mixed for defected and get physical. the creation of, ‘judgement’ and ‘that’s it’ prove paolo truly understands what works on the dance floor. 2016 saw detlef reach new heights whilst also debuting on hot creations with his ‘kinky tail’ ep. he returns to the label with a devastating edit of ‘judgement’ and his rolling signature sound. trevino aka marcus intalex &#8203,,,ramps up the ep with his remix, centred around shimmering high hats and a freaky groove. a champion of how a dj can achieve success in two different genres, trevino has released on several of the most praised drum & bass and techno labels for a number of years.
