welcome return for this very sought-after rare electro 12 inch from tiny harlem label express records. big with the cosmic crowd as well as on the early hiphop scene, this is an extremely cool low-slung synth-heavy electro groover with a hypnotically smooth lead vocal, given a sharp percussive edge by the rattling congas and ticky-time chorus. written at a time in rap music history when the introduction of synthesizer technology created a wild flurry of creativity, this futuristic track by barry michael cooper (who went on to write the screenplays for movies new jack city and above the rim) was teletrons only ever release. film s gain was sadly musics loss as this was, and still is, a boundary-pushing, floor-filling monster. dont sleep!

aura go rises, opens, rouses not unlike a soft light growing to illumination, a day slowly revealing itself. synths whisper and ring out – like bells marking an early hour – at the start, followed by a succession of other awakenings: a palpitating beat, vocalizations that repeat like undulations, percussive poundings and ringings. it all leads to full on, acid-infused, dance floor hypnosis, with producer dennis dj mcnany pushing polyrhythmic, almost tribal beats to the very front. with the addition of husky vocals from collaborator jee young sim – imagine siouxsie sioux crossed with planningtorock – the sound becomes something altogether, and altogether unexpectedly, gorgeous.

i know u combines tribal rhythms, pounding bass, insistent synth stabs, some distressed dialogue and a insanely large crash in the most maniacal way imaginable for what has to be one of the most devastating and original tunes for a very long time. sparse and spacious but yet rhythmical and energetic, lxc manages the ultimate arrangement balancing act here. the intensity increases gradually as the track progresses, culminating in an all-out tribal war ! a modern day jungle masterpiece from one of the most under-estimated producers around. on the flip, senses finally unleashes a track that decimated the very first technicality all-nighter back in 2004. 8 years later and that power is still very much in evidence! everybody want go heaven. nobody want dead – taking influence from the 1990 film marked for death, senses builds a dense vibe here, thick with imminent danger. rolling drums soon give way to a energetic ride-heavy break and pounding sub-bass hits. drum rolls drop and mentasms screech before the storm begins to subside half way through. the respite is brief however and after a complete silence the track reassembles, beginning with some insane slow to fast mentasm pitching which continues as a dark, slick reece begins to build with mysterious atmospherics. the tension is cut by the return of the drums – rolling along at first, before the mentasms and subs hit hard again, signaling a percussive onslaught! jungle just got catapulted into 2012.
