kowton and tom dicicco, residing in bristol and manchester respectively, make very different music from one another. kowtons seems to come from house, perhaps also electro and garage, often quite slow in tempo and hard to pin down to a specific genre. toms music is techno, bass heavy, melodic, textured and rooted around 125 bpm. with these distinctive styles the idea of a split ep might seem ambitious, but the result is four cohesive but different tracks that show the talents of both artists perfectly in the format of two originals on one side and two remixes of each others originals on the other. tom diciccos original is driven by a low-mid range thick stab and pounding kick drum, littered with intricate but not overbearing hi hat and snare work and some very atmospheric mid range. kowtons is subtle and sparse, low fidelity and plodding, with rattling percusion carrying the tune along. on the other side of the record, kowtons remix of toms original is driven by an enormous bassline, with an off kilter dubby feel to the slow tempo and genre defying tune. toms remix of kowton rounds off the ep with a return to stab driven techno, pulsating, dynamic and trance inducing.

on the a-side we have the cheeky >24 hour party sausage<, where garry takes us back to the sounds of the early 90s uk rave scene. its a peak time old school vocal affair with a raw, analog bassline, stuttered drums and chopped up stabbed vocals. stepping up for remix duty on this future classic is the mole who flips the original on its head and creates a dancefloor creeper for those darker club moments. winding the bassline and metallic beats between the rawness of the original groove and imparting his trademark spooky percussion, rhythms and eerie vocals. b-side >vacation in sunderland< is a love story with a firm salute to the classic down tempo us house of the 90s. its time to dust off those shell suits, high top sneakers and cazal shades and get ready for another slung back, funked out garry todd house jam with growling, rolling bass and seductive vocals and keys. on the remix front fellow illusion family members death on the balcony step up with a classic house masterstroke that compliments garrys slower and sleazier original. here dotb pick up the pace in a brilliantly original rework that accentuates the vocals and piano hook to create a summer house anthem - a stylish finish to another diverse installment from the illusion crew.

part 1 is a oldschool jackin house track with some minimal touch. a peculiar bassline, some good hi-hats and hypnotic vocals. danceflloor bomb! part 2 is a deeper mix of part 1, based on the same bassline. it has a slower groove and a softer kick. amazing second chapter for the supercharged story. nuit blanche is a down tempo track full of surprises. totally killer!

nice price deal !!! the first release from il bosco aka christian wood aka woody aka crowhead aka nudge! a man of many names he has been part of the make up of manchester club land for many years. he was resident dj at fat citys infamous friends and family night & a recording artist for grand central and aim’s atic records during the noughties. after a couple of years hiatus he’s back out of the studio with four tracks and taking a new direction. the tempo is up and a mutation of old school rave, italo, house and electro is in the offing.

oakland based damon bell curates his first vinyl release with >kush musik wax<. damons productions are always rich with mood, swing, and depth. this release plays on damons archival tendencies as a dj leaning heavily on his influences of dub, jazz, and all things deep. the release starts off with damons much heralded >ezuku< which found its way onto the playlists of rick wilhite amongst others. >idiya< displays damons flair for arrangement as he twists the vibe midway thru landing you in a completely different space than the opening. >kymestry< is an uplifting deep house trip that brought a smile to the face of ron trent while at the deepblak studios. closing things out is label head aybee with a deep mid-tempo dub of >ezuku<.

part iii boasts contributions from portland, oregons performance art and house music group the miracles club (following releases on cut copys cutters label and famed mexican summer), wurst vet nick chacona - here with longtime partner anthony mansfield, and neurotic drum bands ulysses. the miracles clubs >i cant help it< is a heart-wrenching, ethereal ballad set atop a rock solid, chicago house-inspired rhythm section. easily the deepest cut to emerge from the nick chacona and anthony mansfields fun-filled studio sessions, >tase the wizard< is tailor made for desert raves and smoky basement clubs alike. >soular power< sees ulysses at the top of his talents, bringing the tempo way, way down for a slow-burning balearic beast.

the onset of autumn brings this new release from is it balearic..? recordings head boys coyote. featuring the vocal and lyrical talents of gavin gordon, a madrid based singer songwriter who has previously worked with mock and toof. minamoto is the tale of a 12th century samurai beautifully laid over a heavily percussive and slightly psychedelic disco groove. for the remixes, dj steef creates a more dubbed out 4/4 bouncy synth affair. the hardway bros concoct a proper mid-tempo acid house workout fitting for all the more discerning dancefloors. the third remix from shocks is a reverb heavy breakbeat trip into the darker side of hypnotic balearic/cosmic beats. there is also a bonus track el sueno oscuro a beautifully evocative solo flamenco guitar track by gavin gordon.

fright returns after a long absence in which we sought refuge in hades during the hail storm of gothic hysteria that passed over earths minions. some may remember us from the breakthrough debut release from gatekeeper or the unholy italo-techno alliance we shared with antoni maiovvi. now finally, we return, this halloween, with our most ominous mission yet. naum gabo aka glasgows jonnie wilkes (1/2 of optimo) and james savage started their illustrious career with a trio of releases as naum for kompakts speicher series then have most recently gone on to release music on dissident, thisisnotanexit, endless flight, world unknown and most recently optimo music. created and recorded between 2010 and 2011 in their hottrax studio, naum gabo have come up with > the crystal line<, > galena< and > dmitris darkness<. specifically delivered in mind for fright, they keep true to the labels mission of releasing music for unseen films with 3 mid-tempo and certainly melancholic gems that also maintain an unmistakable ng groove for the stranger dancefloors we know and love. an absolute highlight, > the crystal line< is dedicated to the late, great kurt hauenstein aka supermax. superbly cut loud at 45rpm, this epic tribute is what vinyl addicts dream of hearing.

this 7 inch record released by lo fi funk records contains two skweee tracks which are going deeper in the main lines that this artist has been developing in previous productions. poly july is low tempo track with vibrant synth lines built over a minimalist rnb drums base, resulting in an hipnotic beat with pure funky flashes. moon braggin is full of huge sub bass waves, typical of the new club music and crazy, doubled tempo percussion tracks which forms a mental song, with an epic atmosphere made with floatting oriental synthesizers tunes.

hot off the heals of their debut >we hunt buffalo now<, the soft rocks gang dishes out >magic milk<, and utterly sleazy weekend dancefloor monster serving as the second single in the series surrounding their imminent debut album, >the curse of soft rocks<. guest vocals are once again provided by san francisco post-punk hero jorge socarras (vocalist of indoor life and songwriter for patrick cowley). remix duties on side-b are provided this time by washington dcs rising stars the beautiful swimmers. their mid-tempo coconut dub takes the percussive nuances that are deep in the original and made them centerpiece, surrounding it all with loose house instrumentation that oddly achieves a tropical vibe.
