a few trips in tel aviv made ivan smagghe aware of the extensive and more importantly, quasi forgotten, wave and pop scene from israel. blown away some of the tracks passed on to him, he and the ginger prince thought it would be a good start for the lddlm reissues series, edits and originals.

a lot of macadam mambo’s records are coming in the same time those days, but we didn’t wanted to pass the summer without this new 12” of fresh edits. here is a selection of 3 warm/happy/sunshine disco, latino, and electrofunk tracks. as far as we can know, obscure and hard to find stuff, selected by sacha mambo (honcho at macadam mambo) and keeto (honcho at les disques superfriends) and edited by sacha mambo. this project started last winter after a gig at telephone rose in annecy (alpes), this is the 1st part of a special collaboration between keeto and sacha, a 2nd “les disques superfriends” ep is schedule for next winter. but for now, this record is the one you really need to bring joy and happiness everywhere, playable night and day

atangana records’s back with its second release, once again a long-awaited reissue, once again digging into the caribbean music with a classic track from les maxel’s (from guadeloupe), “le retour de toto”. as usual, the remastered tune comes with a remix and a b2 “just” coming with the remixer’s add parts. originally out in 1976, “le retour de toto” on disques debs international is a brilliant dancefloor killer, magnifying the cross-world between zouk and latino music, biguine and calypso. you can hear from the prominent hi-hat all the energy of the dance moves you could improvise on that kind of joint. with a lot of break, wonderful horns and backing vocals, “le retour de toto” will enjoy all the summer dancefloor and airwaves for some time

this second disques flegon recording is from greita. after two initial tracks on the v.a. buffet froid, the first and successful release of the french label, the parisian artist is back with his own ep faux signal. the five tracks stand out blending the different inspirations that define the ep unique sound. from house to broken beat through greitas love for jazz fusion and french library music, the piece travels with ease from contemporary dancefloors to cosy homes.

having carved out a reputation for some of the finest cosmic house productions on labels like omena, dirt crew and quintessentials, the lithuanian based producer delivers three new cuts on this release, which comes ably backed by a remix from italian producer fabrizio mammarella. on the title track, alex pletnev (ponty mython), goes for breezy synths and wandering melodies over a chugging mechanical beat and an fm style bassline, whilst fabrizio mammarella (bear funk/les disques de la mort) toughens things up slightly on his remix, plunging into a darker sound aesthetic for a great reinterpretation of the original. on “time spiral” an unhurried groove is laced with layer upon layer of meditative synths and percussive rolls for a fat dose of eighties soundtrack vibes, whilst ep closer, “appreciate it while it s not too late”, settles down to a head-nodding pace with funky bass and key melodies and live drum samples for a real earworm of a track.

for the past two decades, ivan smagghe has perfected the art of making spaced-out clubbers dance, has ridden a fine line and run his label les disques de la mort. rupert cross is a london-based composer who has worked with michael finissy and julian anderson as well as writing music for television and theatre. before/after ma, an album which sat on the fringes of experimental music passed through an industrial particle accelerator. s&c give you the tracks codenamed timothy dalton (according to ivan, the laser sound in the track reminded us of flash gordon). neither pop, nor psychedelic, nor ambient, nor house, nor techno, nor post punk nor even new wave are spared, but none are singled out. to nurture this proto-album, the duo also called upon the talents of tim felton, the outstanding guitarist from the cult band broadcast.

unrelated is back with black as night ep by vesàlio ( kapvt mvndi ) side project of livio improta, vesàlio was born from the necessity to change something in his way of producing. less rhythm section and more emphasis on the atmosphere and field recordings, the last one the essential part of this project. a1 - in “n at alba- the concept of vesàlio is pure,clear, and deep , where the atmosphere is the main character of the track. a2 - -black as night” probably is the conflict between the two artistical parts, dark and despondent sounds, in contrast with the rthythm of the drum section. the perfect sound for a science fiction movie, totally mysterious ! b - o.xander (nous disques) decided to solve it bringing back the track into a classic raw theme with his antartica reshape

dj ralf is the italian icon who runs the much loved laterra recordings label and management, and is now back with ‘er suonone’, a new track from margot that is all set to be a late summer smash. anyone who has heard the legendary dj ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary bella ciao party and holds a cult residency in cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now. as such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. margot, of course, is an italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, les disques de la mort, hell yeah and border community and run their own margot records label. ‘er suonone’ is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. it’s the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.

recorded summer/fall of 2008 and originally released in january 2009 this gem has been open to a only very close circle of people only yet. the main idea was to have a bunch of short tracks with a soundtrack mood and a slight taste of early 4ad and factory records (or as frans de waard noticed alot of les disques du crepuscule and even early human league which i admit i adore). a must for fans of the pop ambient series, max richter or type records. limited coloured vinyl edition.
