lake people, the man with a knack for aural subtleties, is spot-on with his first ep for uncanny valley. over the course of four tracks he showcases a quiet different approach compared to the sophisticated house music the leipzig based artist released on labels like permanent vacation or connaisseur recordings. on -break the pattern- he relies heavily on the good old boom tschak-paradigm of electro, without completely giving up his trademark sound. -level msk- combines staccato-type chords with a stuttering beat that stick in your mind. the acidic -september futuristic- with its stoic drumming has almost a krautrock feel to it. on the flipside, the playful -chords in chorus- feels like an early contender for this year s summer anthem with chords and acid lines from heaven. the ep closes with -pull off-, a perfect example for lake people s ability to compose tracks with an emotional depth.

in the summer of 2016 hove went to france for two weeks to start writing and recording his new ep portes du soleil. together with his girlfriend they spent two weeks at le pascalet, a house in the woods of the cevennes, right outside the small village of st. etienne vallee franç,,,aise. equipped with a sampler, a drum-machine,some synths, effect pedals and a mic for feld- recordings, he built the foundation of the 4 songs that would later become the ep portes du soleil. all the songs started out as live-jams. the goal was to create different moods and patterns inspired by the surroundings of the forest, long walks, playing petanque and plenty of pastis. the tracks were later fnalized back home at hoves studio in zurich. musically portes du soleil feels like the natural follow up to his debut ep journey to arendal. hoves tracks are wavering between sozzled grooves and warm, woozy atmospheres. field- recordings from their daily routine in and around the house were either used to enrich the ambiance, or as in calme infni, they were transformed into a whole song. even though portes du soleil was written during the summer, the record is not bound to any season it is simply an excerpt of hoves life in 2016.

this release - a collaboration between ali x (alphonse from azari & iii) and mexicos theus mago - turns the heat up all the way to on and just leaves it there. the lyrical content of the title track would lead many to use descriptors like sexy, sleazy, and steamy like you wouldnt even believe, and while the music also bears that out its important to remember not to stigmatize something that almost everyone does at least a couple of times a week. vision, meanwhile, offers the perfect b-side accompaniment, a sci-fi techno workout where you dont even have to think about sex if you dont want to. the ep features dub versions of both tracks for more stripped-down club sets aimed at people who understandably have problems with the sound of the human voice. it also includes a remix by curses, whom we recently bumped into (he says cornered) in berlin and asked if hed provide one of his trademark eerie downtempo excursions. long story short: he said yes.

‘zibaldone i of cvx’ is the first in a series of releases from rupert clervaux (sian alice group, recent collaborations with beatrice dillon, spring heel jack, treader records...) which take their name from the title of italian poet giacomo leopardi’s extensive notebooks. they are collections of sketches, vignettes and musical footnotes to rupert’s ongoing and varied endeavours as a musician, listener, reader and writer. this first piece is in five sections (titles listed below), consisting of three thematic poetry recitals, read by clervaux and others over sweltering ambient arrangements, along with two clattering percussive tracks created using a variety of sounds across the fidelity spectrum and finely sourced, layered samples. the result is a meandering and diverse musical journey which threads together succinct meditations on originality by leopardi and silvina ocampo, and salutary warnings from hölderlin and derek walcott! ‘zibaldone i’ is presented as a 12” with a fold-out poster by belgian artist coline cornélis.
