so what is after the void ... we bang the bomb of course with a lady in a thong surrounded by snakes and hand grenades, obvious really! having been away for some time it appears that a light sounds dark spring is in the air. en route to their next destination (rumoured to be a dark subterranean world full of nasty mutants danger electrified tracks out this summer) with arms out the window and the mothership roof down, its full steam ahead and proper european dance music time. not really train spotting as before although a couple are a bit off piste like maltas very own ian dury by the name of iain richardson rapping about sitting on a green bus! much more like it however are classic italo covers of big in japan, gloria, a wonderful new wave version of falcos euro smash der kommissar and the thoughts massive german hit wait a long time sounding like some long lost talk talk record. light sounds dark do some minor tweaking (going for that natural look) to big beast anthems axodrys you and colme 111s you take me high (early euro take on chicago) and for lovers of something a bit more funky theres some groovy goings on from kraut funksters epsilon urging people to leave the city which might not be a bad idea if the water runs out.

>the musical styles on moon harbour inhouse vol. 4< range from the deep house of luna city express and ekkohaus to the reduced groovy tech house á la tini & marc antona, andy catana and boris werner and the floor fillers by reboot and dan drastic. in this sense the selection of tracks mirrors the current breadth of styles represented by the label in its 12th year. since the third inhouse compilation, a lot has happened at moon harbour. in addition to the releases of the albums hello from planet earth by luna city express (2009) and paradigm shift by martinez (2010), the tenth anniversary of the label was celebrated with gusto in 2010 complete with the compilation and club tour, ten years of moon harbour. the year 2010 also marked the birth of the monthly moon harbour radio show. luna city express and dan drastic have been taking turns producing this show, which has already had more than 25 editions.

semtek leaves the comfort of his excellent dont be afraid imprint to supply the third 12 inch on andy blake s in plain sight label, following stellar turns from youngtee and maarten van der vleuten. its not the first time blake has called on the london-based producers services - world unknown devotees will remember the monolithic >tacos for dinner< cut in association with chardonnay that appeared on that labels most recent 12 inch. >couer de lyon< is a chunky house jam of the highest order, shuffling hats, a stripped back bassline and a vocal many of you will recognise from one of mks most legendary remixes combine for a cut that overflows with sultry late night passion. flip over for some soundtracky house in the shape of >beaufort<, an analogue jam in the mould of legowelt that retains a club-ready potency and thus offers a more heads-down alternative to the a-side.

bokhari records is a vinyl only label. bokhari has been inspired by mo wax of old, and firecracker of present where care was/is also taken on packaging and design. each release will feature a different illustrator / artist for the design. musically we will aim to stick loosely within the realms of house and techno, but often with our own slant on it, and as the first release shows, in this case will include some afro percussion and a touch of acid. bokhari 001 only 300 copies will be pressed. artwork for release 001 is by the excellent illustrator andy potts (former head of design at abbey road studios), and every single vinyl will be signed and numbered. remix comes from the ever consistent mark e, who has taken the shrunken head bassline and made a 10 minute druggy, chuggy, loopy, creepy monster (and anything else you want with a ‘y’ at the end!)

casbah73 is back with this wicked eccentric house 12 inch. >i m feeling lucky< is a deep and intense detroit-influenced vocal house jam. a take on the classic muzic box spirit, this one s got that anthemic feel about it and has classic written all over it. over on the flip side >i am the main bitch< keeps the party going. it is a polyrhythmic groovy house number that hits all the right keys to move the dancefloor. also included is a remix of this track, aptly named >in the middle east<, which adds an erm ... middle eastern flavour to the whole thing: a bit psychedelic, yet effective. all that, on a very limited 12 inch with screen-printed artwork and download coupon. with amazing artwork by graphic genius pepe medina.

for another record store day release, british singer-songwriter victoria christina hesketh (little boots) teamed up with historic chicago house label trax to release the 12 inch for >every night i say a prayer<. she wrote this one with hercules & love affairs andy butler and it is better than anything on his groups sophomore dud blue songs. (it is also better than pretty much everything on little boots own spotty debut, 2009s hands.) the housey original version of >every night< incorporates a sort of cleaned-up old-school chicago aesthetic (dig the claps), but tensnakes posh freestyle rerub is the vinyls real winner. you can never go wrong with clinking 808s and pretty female vocals. fact.

march sees the formidable hypercolour deliver its most surprising output yet, an ep from none other than groove armada. tom findlay and andy cato need little introduction as groove armada. chart smashes, huge live tours and being part of the worldwide electronic music history aside, the duo have never lost touch with their acid house roots and have continued to be devoted to record buying, djing and the much maligned promo trawl. tom and andy have been avid followers of the label it seemed, since its inception. it was through label head jamie, meeting the guys back in 2010 at space in ibiza, and then continued communication via hypercolour promos, that led to an out-of-the-blue email requesting an informal hook up in east london and, within just a few days, a release was scheduled. that release is the >no knock ep<, four tracks that range from 808 fuelled old school cuts to low slung, moog-bassd electronic funk. each sound is lovingly crafted but there is an analog rawness throughout and every track has the sort of tweaked, off-kilter and occasionally awkward vibe that hypercolour do so well. it just takes a bit of imagination to guess what a ga release on hypercolour should sound but failing that, just check the release out as it wont disappoint.

jack fell down are a slight adjustment to the generic format presented by producers and djs who. through conformity and expectance stand without exception in the fog of musics popularity led culture. opting instead to work in obscurity and anonymity jack fell down have signed a deal with one of the worlds longest standing and respected dance labels, southern fried records along side some of the industries biggest artist. jack fell downs debut release is a limited edition 12 inch extended player and will be in shops april 2012, this will be followed up with remixes for the 2 bears and a second ep with southern fried. jack fell down have an exclusive track on the upcoming jaymo & andy george compilation and have confirmed radio shows and blog podcasts with platforms such as ibizas sarah mains syndicated radio show. jack fell downs approach to a performance is purist, exchanging the mac book pro for the 1210s and the digital effects unit for technique, they are content to share the love at a dirty bog stomp or a world class club.

the first world unknown 12 inch of 2012 is a double header of throbbing midtempo techno and as with all world unknown releases from now on both tracks have been mastered for vinyl from ½ inch tape for maximum sonic excellence. on side w semtek from dont be afraid joins forces with his afterparty alter-ego chardonnay and a certain rather well known og hipster poet on >tacos for dinner<, an extremely modern and massively psychedelic trip into the outer mind. this clicking, bleeping, fizzing and throbbing ten minute excursion has been road tested from acetate by andy blake for many months and always sends the club somewhere very special and ever so slightly scary. on side u scott fraser delivers >remains the same<. its a notch or two less pacey than side w but no less powerful or psychedelic. its earthy vibe and pounding, throbbing tones have been part of andrew weatheralls sets for some time now and its not hard to see why. when the full percussion finally comes crunching in like a breakbeat on top of the ever-present heavyweight bassline its disco pandemonium time. in short, possibly the best 12 inch so far from wu.

despite the doors being closed on dissident in 2009, former boss andy blake has been anything but quiet, with his world unknown imprint bringing the acid and ebm sounds of his night of the same name to the world. now hes started another label, in plain sight, which looks set to bring more esoteric house sounds to our ears, with the first release coming from the hitherto unknown youngtee. the first track, >dr chocolate< fuses the kind of oddball low-slung sounds and spoken-word samples that in flagranti have been masters of for years, with jazzy keys and 808 cowbells which hint at a subtle chicago influence. the classic house influence continues of >perfect model<, which combines misty chords with an 80s pop groove, falsetto vocal sample and synth jam solo which comes across as alternate universe michael jackson track. as youd expect from a label curated by blake, its house music, but not quite as you know it.

organs of love are the power-sleaze duo of james mckinven (organs, love) and alicia matthews (vocals, love). james mckinvens musical odyssey started with playing synth in (kraftwerk, suicide-inspired) electro band berlin blondes. he then moved on to altered images. after that he worked in genetic studios learning from the modern day genius that was producer martin rushent (human league, the stranglers, the buzzcocks). then went on to form one dove and worked with maverick genius andy weatherall. after that he drifted back to where it all started, analog electro, and miss alicia matthews. alicia matthews has quite a different background – one from fine art and performance. through working together at the same bar and having many intoxicating late night chats, they decided to try to get back to a 70s theatrical, musical performance: where live music and art combine for something beyond the rock gig vibe. and luckily enough, miss matthews has quite the pair of pipes – a true vocal delight. the result is organs of love … who frequently perform live around glasgow and have quite the reputation of thee band to see. videos can be provided, but they are not for the faint-hearted! not that optimo music ever provide a dull moment …
