much could be said about german house royalty boris dlugosch. from his teen dj years under the wings of fronts legendary klaus stockhausen in hamburg to his own marvelous tenure there that is pretty much synonymous with the explosion of acid house in its proto- and post-incarnations. one could examine his role as a herald of us garage and jersey house or as a remixer of underground gone pop records. but we will leave that and other stories for the front page soon. the traveller ep is the result of dlugosch and cassara meeting at a mutual friend of theirs, getting excited about their shared love for classic synths (see sh-101 for the traveller bass line) and exploiting the latters extensive synth collection. what you get: classic disco, french house, electro-funk, dj sound effects (that tractor plowed the front every night) and most of all fun, fun and a little bit of extra fun. chin-stroking impossible.

back down on my knees is a raw house cut combining a pounding bass drum and clever percussion reminiscent of a late 00 s new york sound with washed synths. i m amazed offers an ambient track lead by a simple piano interlaced with a field recording taken on a subway platform in new york. on the other side rubber jam is a tough hardware jam with a floaty arpeggiated synth line. here will be blood rounds the ep out relying on percussion to drive the track with breakbeat and a heavy bassline.

lp reissues cut from the long-awaited 2010 digital remasters for the first time on vinyl and cd, original release from 1980. reissues of a legendary artist, pioneer of the french electronic music. the french proto-electro is making a come-back as weve seen it with the success of both cosmic machine compilations. their 7 onyx sold over 3 million copies worldwide. space art is behind the massive hits: onyx, give me love, love in c minor and more. one of half of the band, dominique perrier, is one of legend jean-michel jarres closest collaborators. recognized as a keyboard virtuoso, he worked on all jarres albums from rendez-vous (1986)to oxygène 7-1 (1997) and still tours with him around the world. space art also toured with him in china in the early 80s. alongside jean-michel jarre and cerrone they are one of the most influential bands that pioneered electro music.

hard previously unreleased dubplate cuts on side a, i roy vocal & dub on the same rhythm on the b-side! legendary channel 1 dubplate music. this version of -free black man- by earth & stone was scrapped for release in favor of the softer version that eventually appeared on their -kool roots- album, but this heavy cut achieved infamous dubplate status thru play on uk sound systems. in the case of this tune, it seems only dubwise cuts made the rounds, as we ve not heard (or heard of) a full vocal. and like many tunes not pegged for release from back in the day, mixdown masters were never kept, so only dubplates remain to haunt us. here you get two hard dubwise cuts, remastered from dubplate (punters beware!), raw as ever. on the flip side, i roy s vocal, the only released cut on this rhythm, as well as the only released dub, as appeared on the -musical dub attack.-
