the yore captain returns to his own yore imprint on the labels 21st release. shadow city presents different visions of funky house grooves. the a sides the y theme gets deeply moving with a funky house pulse before stoking the fire with the addition of speaking voices (trippingly intoning the q&a what are we doing this for? and the music), a move which single-handedly jumpstarts the track. after the voices appear, the grooves intensity escalates and plunges deeper, its gyroscopic house swing becoming more dizzying and torrential with each passing bar before coming to an acidy storming end. in its opening moments, shadow city opts for a deeper and more serenading vibe by comparison, but thats traded in for a slinkier attack at the three-minute mark that grows progressively more ferocious as the track makes its drastic upwards ascent. a trippin dangerous murder weapon to say the least. watch your heads! the b sides b2 track, mumbai dweller keeps the focus primarily on the bottom end, specifically a strutting tribal-house funk groove thats dragged even deeper by a throbbing bass undertow, adding dark chords to it, giving this ep a darker feeling towards the end. to sum it all up: this is raw house music at its best!

stroke typifies the twisted darkness so prevalent in italian techno right now. constructed from a tight stripped back groove of low-humming bass and booming kicks the track bounces along against a off-kilter backdrop of acid ripped effects. a legend in techno, rino cerrone makes a welcome return to analytic trail with his remix. taking the late night feel of the original and evolving it over a tight shuffling groove the effect is to accentuate the warped vibe and discreet energy.

clone classic cuts continues to dig in the crates to bring back forgotten or obscure records from the past! this is 3 tracks by da posse (produced by hula... one of the outthere brothers... and with maurice joshua, k fingers & martell). strings & its my life are chicagos take on detroit techno... a rare release that sounds like a early derrick may record (think the dance) but maybe slightly more straight forward (as one might expect from chicago). a rare piece in house and techno history since this is one of the rare examples of a record that doesnt show the clear difference between chicago and detroit in the late 80s. this record most likely got produced within 1 year after rhythm = rhythms legendary nude photo and strings of life releases (both 87 and this came out in 88). as extra bonus track we have the groove. a phat bass driven chicago acid track that still rocks it. another fine piece of powerful dance music history back in the spot light!

all the way from new zealand to the urban landscapes of berlin, simon beeston is a man who likes diversity. this is not just evident in his choice of residence, but also in his musical output. following an ep on highgrade digital and a track on our various artists vol. vi record, simon now presents dusty back room, his first solo 12inch release on highgrade. the ep opens with the title track dusty back room, a track of strings and stabs, and a sound not exactly typical of previous highgrade releases. but when the music comes with such compelling energy and provocative atmosphere, were prepared to make an exception. new zealand meets berlin as we cast an eye over green landscapes and ocean swells, while the bumpy groove intoxicicates us with its magic spell. that simon beeston is a man of great contrast is clearly evident on the b-side with neon cringe and cymbolic. the percussive heat of the club brings us back from the organic landscape of his homeland and into the neon lights of the night. neon cringe resonates with a healthy dose of acid pump, while cymbolic provides a bass driven journey complete with cut up vocals and blistering cymbal rolls. this is a release that richly deserves its round number: highgrade number 70. especially with the addition of the bonus digital track tough luck, another highlight all of its own.

the legendary pounding grooves label returns with two new dance floor stormers. the a-side the dark bells is a dark and minimal acid track with a wicked 303 line and strangely enough, some dark bells. the b-side foogar is a pounding grooves workout into extreme bass, and a wonky synth line. both tracks written and produced by lawrie dunster aka pounding grooves

with smashing contributions by electro lord legowelt from dirty brown the hague and bleep addict garçon taupe from the bourgeois slums of amsterdam, narrominded presents the fourth installment in its renowned split lp series. both sides of this split lp comprise a whole ep in length, and the contributions have in common that they are both deeply rooted in electro music.
on garçon taupes wittenburg ep, eighties infected drum computer beats and heavy bass lines pave the way for some rather cheerful and unpretentious melodies. the five tracks were mixed to tape at rude 66s triple six lounge studio, and reveal influences from electronic pioneers like yellow magic orchestra and mantronix, to todays acid freaks like luke vibert and like a tim. the end result is a catchy mixture of electro and acid.
legowelt explores the darker corners of electronic music in four tracks leaning on eerie vocals and grungy electro beats. his land rovers in astrophysics ep takes us to mysterious environments. we are spacing out on the force of the stars, the universe, etc, and dancing to hypnotic drums on a mystical trip to pago pago west samoa. legowelt not only knows how to to satisfy a dance floor, but is also capable of deeply appealing to the listeners imagination.

giorgio gigli is an italian minimal-trance maestro, an incredibly modern renaissance man who is also a trained sommelier.** he is rising in the ranks and catching up in profile to his occasional production partner, donato dozzy. hopefully we will have more of his tracks on turbo soon.

hobo is a fellow canadian best known for his excellent work on m¦nus. rumor has it, he borrowed richies quad-macro template file to finish the final version of this remix... whatever he did, his second effort came up huge, this mix is excellent.

kebacid is the production alias for turbo all-stars jesper dahlbäck and jori hulkkonen. their previous releases on jespers defunct blank ltd are some of the best acid tracks of the decade. this is a monster that ought to keep all the die-hard turbo fans happy.

nachtstrom schallplatten is back with a brand-new ep produced by munichs tobias felbermayr. the vinyl will contain 3 superb techno-smashers in the best tradition of extrawelt, johannes heil and gregor tresher.
tobis career started in the year 2005 under the pseudonym joey approx. at that time he was already playing in well-known clubs such as rote sonne and harry klein - both located in the beautiful capital of bavaria munich.in 2008, he could convince his good friend johannes heil to make him part of his label metatron recordings. his first release immediately was a huge success and entered the top-50 of the techno-charts in europe and in japan even went into the top-10. after playing together with artists such as johannes heil, spektre, acid maria, piatto, tim green, daniel schlender and many more, he is still on his search for that special sound and one thing is for sure: he s gonna find it!
we are proud to welcome tobi as part of our nachtstrom family and to release his first ep on our label.

bodo elsel has only done a handful of records and the two that i have known and loved since 1998 were put out on playhouse, the excellent housey sister-label of mighty klang elektronik. one track in particular, discount baby, has always stood out in my mind as a high water mark in the sacred art of groove (you may have heard of it). punchy accents and resonant bass layered with trippy vocal loops, its dubby acid house of the highest order, made by a mysterious german lego-master, who the a&r team of mike mind and thomas st shindig managed to coax back into activity.
it only took bodo a year to answer mr. minds email, but he eventually delivered three amazing tracks... >haustier< revitalizes piano house. >mai< is incredible, and >mein haus< is one of the top few all-time expressions of the greatness/meaning of germany, putting it in the fine company of the autobahn, sven väth and christmas-market schwein. nice wibes!!
the icing on the cake was that bodo made it very clear he wanted no part in royalties or any of that business crap... he just wanted 42 copies of the record. yes. 42.
we were so inspired by all of this that we decided to put this record out in a different way for us that just feels right this time.... if you want to find out just how good the >mein haus ep< is, you will have no choice but to buy a copy of the 12 inch because this one is a vinyl exclusive!
