ferrer and sydenham having been knocking out some superb stuff on the ibadan label recently, and sandcastles doesnt break the streak, with its sublime piano line coming into its own late in the mix after a lengthy lead in of subtle percussion, throbbing kickdrum and stellar synth play. a warm and lush track, the cut builds through the beats, to the piano line and finally to vocal refrain and a wall of synth strings that round this track off perfectly.

virgil enzinger, breaking through with his amazing record for chris liebing s clr back in 2006, starts up the zerocol-series with a one-sided hammer named black, and there is truly no other word which could describe it better. a slowly developping arrangement on 126 bpm creates a dark atmosphere while the grooves combine straight drumming with 6/8 shaking elements. for those of you who prefer it dark, but high end, this is the record.

amazing limited reissue of an obscure disco synth bomb from the early 80s! the connection between daryl cameron of eye beta rock and 4lux head honcho gerd goes back to the early 90s. at this time gerd was recording for detroits malego records. chicago legend armando toured europe to do dj, set up by ep connection in collaboration with the dutch seesaw crew in 1992. through armando, gerd got acquainted with daryl camerons boogie stuff. daryl was in the mix with loads of chicago producers such as farley jackmaster funk and armando himself. just a 400 copies limited edition run!! no repress on this big 80s synth boogie track!

in the year of punk 1977, the jams exploded onto the music scene with this seminal debut album. the raw, unfettered aggression of the bands approach was well in keeping with the spirit of the times, but the heart of their songs and sound lay in the mod movement of the mid 60s. singer/guitarist paul weller comes off like a cross between joe strummer and the young pete townshend, bashing unreservedly through slow down, one of the r&b tunes that inspired the original mods. weller extols the virtues of frenzied dancing and nonconformist youth culture over the raging three chord attack of bassist bruce foxton and drummer rick buckler. the pure punk insouciance of his words and delivery is a perfect match for the raging but hooky arrangements, which basically consisted of the band walking into the studio and blazing through their live set. rickenbacker guitars never sounded so thick, and skinny ties never seemed less geeky.
