berlin-based belgian producers sierra sam & marcus vector present the debut release of d.i.y. likely ep is tims first release on tiefschwarzs souvenir label. lead track alike sounds like ivan smagghe jamming with richie hawtin in a warehouse rave in london, skirting a line between futuristic tech house and discerning electro. a live bassline holds down the groove as a trickling bleepy melody develops throughout the track. as more and more layers of elaborate sonic trickery are laid down, a driving snare jacks out the groove further before a series of effects laden breakdowns tighten the tension further and further. cowbells take the second phase of the track ever taughter before the groove emerges into a stabbing hook and pulsating synth noises that drive the dancefloor into blissed out oblivion. subtle vocals tease the ears in the background of the final strung out breakdown, never quite dominating the tune before the jacking bass and kick drop back in. ‘unlike shares a similar vibe for mixing live instruments with plug in madness. live sounding bassline and guitar lines open the track and roll out the groove before the main synth hook takes over. as the track rolls in and out of its breakdowns it lurches between reverb heavy, bleepy chaos and futuristic rhythms. think depeche mode writing an experimental instrumental on the moon in 2012 and youre halfway there. like many french artists these days tim lives and works in london and also collaborates with fellow frenchies ivan smagghe and dante eprom. he first caught the attention of vinyl sleuths with his excellent remix of db (8)s future now in 2004 and now runs his own label marketing music as well as pushing the boundaries of spacey electro flavoured tech house with his own solo material.

the beginning of year three in the adjunct chronicles is marked by a 12inch by our own apendics.shuffle. kenneth james gibson has been bombarding the techno scene consistently for the past few years. u_derline, orac, friends of tomorrow, mos ferry, sunset diskos among other labels have served as the carrier for kens deadly weapons. remix duties are taken on by the one and only mathias schaffhäuser , a renowned techno superstar and the founder of ware records. there couldnt have been a better title than >no reduction< to literary describe this monster of a track - ken has unleashed the entire arsenal of his studio for the creation. stern synth patterns pizzicato their way through the track, deep sea signals ring in the background, distorted vocal snippets insist on taking >all the money<. energetic and magnetic dancefloor number dedicated to the real freaks. mathias approaches the rework with smooth drumming and a velvet bassline. the cheeky cabaret vibe however never settles: the diabolical pizzicato of the original returns and the voices continue their demands for (what all adds up to in the end) >no reduction<. oblivious filth brings yet another layer to this joint. beautifully crafted sounds mingle with electro-mechanical noises, layers of melting textures lure the listener into a late night wonderland

jacek sienkiewicz presents another unbelievably complex experiments in beat programming and string arrangement. this time, polands top techno producer known for his storming live sets goes over the edge, stretching minimal techno formula far beyond its limits and comes up with two epic tracks of enormous proportions. >the one< starts immediately with a stainless steel kick, but what seems to be a digital techno groove soon develops into a cosmic fairytale, with layers after layers of strings, bells and unidentified, but strangely organic sounds, executed with breathtaking complexity and almost obsessive attention to every tiny detail. sounds and emotions embraced within its almost 10 minutes are enough to fill a couple of albums.

chrysanthemum ep is the first new recording from kelley polar since his hugely successful debut album released in 2005, love songs of the hanging gardens. the seeds of chrysanthemum are described by mr. polar himself as a confluence of the apocalyptic fear that permeated all cold war childhoods, comic book illustrations of blood and violence abstracted into flora and a b grade science fiction novels portraying two teens in the final throes of lovemaking as the world is destroyed in nuclear apocalypse. yet despite this decidedly dark and unique approach, the song is nevertheless pure pop catchy and indelible once heard. rosenband is lighter in subject matter yet just as deep musically, filled with synthetic layers and rhythms that reveal themselves slowly on subsequent listens. despite the immediacy of the melodies, there is a detail that permeates all of kelley polars work and rewards the attentive listener. a completely reworked instrumental version of rosenband is stretched across the b side and is dare we say it a dancefloor killer, with a long, mix friendly intro building to an incredible crescendo. the track is arranged and mixed by morgan geist and was done so with djs in mind!
