with france’s long-fallow club scene back in international resurgence as paris storms back into fighting form, europe now has found a new source for yet-unheard music. it was a long time brewing, but names like concrete, katapult, zadig, and society of silence, have begun to appear in the international clubbing circuit, and the growth is not limited to the capital. further south in lyon, a city quickly gaining its own renown for busy club parties booking bigger names, there exists a smaller circle of energetic operators whose name is also spreading rapidly and whose recent accomplishments include nuites sonores, boilerroom and more.

nobody knows where these guys were beforehand, but this record is a real hit. a new release has emerged from an equally new label - detroit techno archive it reflects the labels name perfectly. the 12inch recording includes six wonderful detroit techno tracks, from a couple of artists. the first associations that come to mind are detroit legends like underground resistance, derrick may, stacey pullen, kenny larkin, and octave one. youll find some old-school techno with a rich groove, multilayered melodies, and some great stories behind them. this is real hi-tech jazz.

italian dj legend dj rocca (from the infamous maffia club) joins forces with file under disco to produce a stunning ep of original new disco sounds. as one half of erodiscotheque alongside disco superstar dimitri from paris, and as a regular collaborator with danielle baldelli the grandaddy of the cosmic sound, dj roccas disco credentials are firmly in place. for this release, he captures the classic sound of disco funk on *love power*, but gives it a modern production twist and re-spins it for the contemporary dance floor. on the remix front, the one and only dimitri from paris rolls out one of his heavy-hitting, prelude-style nightdubbin mixes of *pizza on wednesday*, which will have your dancers beating the street for more. while dicky triscos dance floor intentions are obvious as he hits the boogie button with a hands-in-the-air retake on *a magical day*.

having previously reissued *i want you to know*, the 1991 gem from simonellis groove committee project, deep down slam now return with a remix package. leading the way is italian house producer nicholas in collaboration with marcoradi, with the original s vibe very much intact but complemented by some fresh new beats and arrangement. the second remix comes from french house producer dj steaw who brings the usual quality and gives the remix the classic steaw touch we re used to know. zurich based italian producer demetrio giannice conjures the spirit of vintage tom moulton on his remix and deep down slam have also included simonellis original bonus beats version from 1991 that was mastered by legendary nyc mastering engineer rick essig.

label boss dj bone mans the controls for the 38th release on subject detroit, laying down a typically fierce, three pronged auditory attack. *what he said* tactfully yet forcefully treads the line between house and techno, cherry picking physiognomies from each side of that ever-blurring line and constructing something fresh but bristling with familiar subject detroit elegances. a favourite fixture from bones more recent dj sets, *i do* sees bubbling, arpeggiated chords simmer and swoop from foreground to background loosely as one solitary, remanipulated ticking hat keeps things in formation. watch out for the thunderous, doubled-up drum arrangement that crashes in to the picture out of nowhere! b side track *rhythm soul funk* is a genuine hard hitter and another that tiptoes between the old school and the nouveau.
