liverpool-based producer bantam lions has long been part of the scenery records family, helping label boss asok launch the imprint with 2012s one to one ep. here he returns with his third 12 inch for the label. lead cut *recollections* is particularly good, delivering a deep and attractive fusion of fuzzy analogue warm, dreamy melodies and intoxicating chords. he ups the tempo further on *many years later*. which layers dubbed-out chords and swirling textures over an energy-packed techno groove. the accompanying remixes are pretty tasty, too, with the cyclist particularly impressing with his detroit techno-goes-lo-fi interpretation of *recollections*. that said, the dreamy, new age-influenced downtempo take from mood hut regular cloudface is pretty darn good, too.

italian producer domenico camarilla has hit a rich vein of form under the jose manuel guise of late, supplementing output on his own black pepper label with feted appearances for tusk wax, is it balearic?, lectric sands and citizen kanes disques sinthomme. given his profile, a union with the soft rocks affiliated kinfolk label makes utmost sense and jose manuel fans will find much to enjoy about ajna. both the title track and *the clear after the storm* are steeped in eastern mysticism and feature heavy percussion from the man manuel, whilst the accompanying soft rocks remix will appeal to fans of rabih beainis *tanki tanki* edit.

optimo trax is an offshoot label of optimo music for tracks aimed at djs/dancefloors. yes, we know there are too many record labels already, but we felt an overriding desire to start another one as so much music that didnt seem quite right for optimo music (i.e. music that was specifically designed for dancing) kept coming our way. like the parent label, optimo trax will release music by new artists and excavate forgotten classics.

blank slate presents the debut of the düve project, a collaboration between soren jahan and ali Çakir. combining live recorded drums and instrumentation, samples from vintage 78s, internet videos and analogue electronics, this fifth instalment holds nothing back.

collaborations are often the fortune of timing. with andy having moved on since closing the dissident label to launching his cave paintings project to tim s departure from battant and striking out as andrew weatheralls engineer and soon to be co-member of the asphodells, an alliance was born between the two to undertake a series of live jam sessions at eachs respective studios. a love of new wave, new beat, uk bleep and detroit techno all feature in b-ultras and the aptly titled, neu beat. both cuts are heavily soaked in the pitch black, smoke machine funk and strob-laden fug of andys (and co-hort joe hart) infamous world unknown dancefloor. running at around 10 minutes the tracks are essentially an examination of acid houses ideals. clattering hats, throbbing basslines, stabbing keys and doses of 303. keeping it pretty simple but all about a pure groove on and on. backing these up is a remix of b-ultras from jamie paton that accentuates the groove and drags the acid deeper down to some b-boy dub throwdown - with more to follow from all protagonists in 2014.
