psychedelic deep soul of the highest order, symphonic four was a st louis based band (as was the original label zudan). word is the record was recorded in detroit, and the backing band was made up of some members of parliament/funkadelic which would make a lot of sense. a long time spin for deep soul head but deserving of a wider audience and that why we could not resist to pull this one from the now again catalogue, 500 copies only.

each installment charts a different component of our sound: 10.1 highlights the influences of synthwave and postpunk electronics, 10.2 is comprised of razor-sharp acid and overdriven electro, and 10.3 delves into darker shades of industrial techno. together, all of these elements loosely sketch our little corner of the sonic universe. with this humble offering we tried to capture and share with you a little sliver of what we’ve found together in hazy rooms full of flashing lights and strange sounds.

here at quantize we simply love confounding expectations cos, guess what? we love all kinds of music and don t like to be stereotyped. but this one even surprised the hell out of us so much so that we figured it deserved a 7inch vinyl release in tribute to the original format. think (about it) was originally recorded 45 years ago in the summer of 1972 by the fiery lyn collins. produced by the godfather of soul, james brown, it barely scraped into the rnb top 10 at the time and normally would have faded into time as just another great james brown produced record but in 1987, it started to get sampled by a new generation of hip-hop artists like roxanne shante and robe base and dj e-z rock. suddenly the world woke up to the possibilities of sampling and since that point, think (about it) has been sampled 1908 times and is the no.3 most-sampled record of all time. so we decided to cut a new version of it with real musicians and one of the few vocalists that would be capable of matching lyn collins firepower - dance music s diva supreme, the incredible barbara tucker. we wanted barbara to really cut loose on this and she didn t disappoint. and yes, those are real keyboards, real guitar and real horns. believe us, this session was off the scale! so when we finally got our breath back we decided we had to get this out on a 45 on its 45th anniversary! it seemed the most appropriate way to do justice to a record that simply jumps outta the grooves. we believe think (about it) will have universal appeal pretty much everywhere since the song is now implanted within the dna of dance music across the world.

dope archival release of steve rachmads long time side project where he exposes the more funk / electro side of his talents. this is musical machine-head side of the amsterdam electro scene (also purveyed buy the likes of comtron). dense undertones of cybotron/ model 500 on this one. top notch productions from a dutch master. check!

venezuelan extraordinaire producer trujillo is back with a new set of sun-injected future nostalgia cuts on apersonal music. street soul and trip-hop atmospheres deliciously blended together transports you back to a remote paradisiac beach in the heart of the venezuelan caribbean coast. both tracks feature the seductive voice of colombian paulo olarte and a very exclusive appearance from tropical disco maestro daniel grau in -hola como estas- on the piano. to complete the journey the flip side runs through the exquisite balearic tool mix of -everytime i think of u- by norwegian producer telephones, feeling hypnotic and sophisticated. el caribe te lo da!

zweitwerk des world music trios um folk-koryphäe james yorkston! das zweite album von yorkston/thorne/khan wird anfang april auf domino veröffentlicht. es folgt dem von kritikern gefeierten banddebüt “everything sacred” von 2016 und präsentiert einen zusammenspiel verschiedener strömungen wie dem nordindischen sarangi, jazz-gefärbtem bass mit reminiszenzen an danny thompson und einer akustik gitarre, die den folk- & blues-koryphäen elizabeth cotton, dick gaughan und mississippi john hurt tribut zollt – und drei sehr unterschiedlichen vokalisten: james yorkston (east neuk of fife), jon thorne (isle of wight) und suhail yusuf khan (neu delhi). “neuk wight delhi all-stars” ist eine sammlung von traditionellen indischen und britischen folksongs, wunderschönen originalen und eigenwilligen coverversionen, die nicht nur klassische musik aus indien und jazz zusammenbringt, es zitiert ebenfalls reggae, irischen dudelsack und den einfluss des madagassischen gitarristen d’gary.
