left hand path presents the second full-length lp, idol collapse, from forests &#26862,&#26519,. written by jon du, kuo-hung tseng, and zun long in taipei, taiwan. eight songs in 36 minutes that unfurl like a flower and expand like a mushroom cloud, designed for utter osmosis and total absorption. the helix twists, the loop is closed. the cycle begins anew.

part 2 of darren allen’s discobar debut takes us on four more precision mindtrips, exploring further the technological influences found in part 1. on ‘atonement’, clattering percussive and plunging bass come laced with a stinsonesque synth line, creating a flightier vibe. the distorted hum of hardware-gone-haywire introduces ‘scanners’, a convulsed tribute to the cronenburg classic that rounds out this ep in typically trippy style.‘tv sickness’ is a post-perlon prowler, the softened shuffle of its first half returning with renewed vigour after a woozy mid-track breakdown, then reprised in a beatless coda.

house music broke through in 1987, at the same time when aids arrived in france with the first contamination peak in gay and drug addict circles. in 1989, the founders of act-up paris knew that both the fight against aids and triumphant house music should be joined together. from 1992 to 1995, the period covered by “120 bpm-, house reached its most beautiful plateau even though techno was becoming dominant. “120 bpm” is a get-together moment through clubbing, this moment where fears are forgotten by dancing with one’s friends, what we called “the chosen family” at act-up. boys and girls dancing in a club where the walls cannot be seen, flooded with simple light. this is their activist recess. arnaud rebotini, composing the soundtrack of robin campillo’s previous film, “eastern boys-, is a recognized dj, a composer and a kind man, which is for me the most important quality. here, his work is marked by restraint of his love for house and after techno. i believe he deliberately withdrew himself in relation to the film’s power and the aids theme

after last year’s massive “brainbox” album, de:tuned presents the 7th and final installment “unboxed brain” which contains 3 excellent re-interpretations by future/past (aka kirk degiorgio), mark broom and the black dog of selected tracks off the album and an exclusive new track by the future sound of london. yet again, mastered by matt colton (alchemy mastering) and related artwork by designer kevin foakes from openmind (aka strictly kev, dj food from ninja tune). both kirk degiorgio and mark broom rework b12’s “worlds end”. kirk degiorgio, who makes a rare appearance as future/past, increases the energy levels and turns the original into a dance floor bomb. broom’s version heals back to a more electro and breakbeat vibe by adding some deep ballsy and stretched out beats. on the flipside, scanner’s “eros” gets the black dog treatment. the illustrious uk outfit strips down the original into an eerie futuristic soundscape. lastly, the future sound of london brings us an intense piece of sound design: sit back and let the music take control, stay tuned!

in addition to the music, de:tuned has worked with designer kevin foakes from openmind (aka strictly kev, dj food from ninja tune) who has translated the diverse musical theme of the album into stunning graphic artwork.

following on from the underground success of florists debut ep, all caps first release of the year sees the label pluck from the ether 6 transmissions by debut artiste - neuroshima. cavernous breaks. fluid subs. 1992. 2016.my friend & i used to listen to this during the summer of 94, gazing out his bedroom window at sunset, watching the birds fly past the water tower on the horizon. one of the rare times when both of us would shut up for a few minutes and get lost for a bit, each record comes packaged in a mirrored silver-board sleeve + custom insert designed by florist.
