downfall theory embarks on a new chapter as it hosts a full release from a producer other than its owner, sanys. myztical isn’t exactly a newcomer though, and the ukrainian producer has already two releases to his credit on nicz records. given the title of his debut on downfall theory, it is no surprise to learn that myztical is using it as a means to question reality. inspired by the science fiction writer philip k dick and decades of electronic music, he certainly succeeds on venturing into uncharted territories on the title track. muffled, repetitive vocal samples, an atonal rhythm and relentless, slightly distorted kicks show that quite often, simplicity is the most potent ingredient. on “faith of our fathers”, myztical disappears farther down the wormhole. splintered rhythms, deranged howls and a deranged filter push his vision for broken beat techno into the abyss. “substance d” sees the ukrainian hotshot return to a more linear approach, pounding kicks underpin ghostly shrieks before a breakdown sees the track descend into grimy, woody mcbride-style acid. the accompanying vocal sample, the embodiment of a bad trip, only serves to accentuate the track’s darkly hallucinogenic qualities. finally, there’s “shifted realities” - it revisits the jagged filters of “faith of our fathers”, but does so against the backdrop of a pounding industrial kick and a grungy, low-slung rhythm.

contemplative, but never melancholic, rather with a positive mood, the tracks diffuse an overwhelming lightness and radiate a lighthearted happiness, which are manifested on an incredibly emotional and spiritual level. with the simple and classic black and white artwork the two releases from sahraoui balance eachother like yin und and yang. the second part of the eternal life ep has a very different background than the first ep. it is the white yang of these two natural opposites, contrary forces that are interconnected and interdependent. the record is significantly calmer, less clubby and references the beginnings of the detroit sound

mit museum of love reiht das geschmackssichere label dfa einen weiteren release in den reigen für 2014 ein. am 10.10. erscheint das gleichnamige debütalbum des duos, bestehend aus pat mahoney, seines zeichens gründungsmitglied von lcd soundsystem und dennis mcnanny aka jee day. zusammen bilden sie museum of love, eine direkte anspielung auf daniel johnstons song, verrät mahoney: *i had always loved the song, and had been thinking of what such an edifice would contain when we were trying to name the project*, und mcnanny weiter *pat is a sculptor, i am a painter, we make music and museums are sacred spaces and love is an elusive thing.* die produktion, instrumentierung und das songwriting lag im aufgabenbereich von mcnanny, während sich mahoney um den gesang und um die drums kümmerte. ein detailreiches disco-house album, das sich perfekt in das sound-regal von dfa einreiht. die vinyl-lp erscheint im klappcover, download-code inklusive.

dj spoko was born marvin ramalepe, raised in the rural town of tzaneen in northern south africa, where he says there was no first or third class—all the same. he started producing on a pc at age 12, after moving with his brother kelly rams ramalepe to atteridgeville, a 99%-black township outside the mostly white city of pretoria – to find their father. they lived in an area called ghost town, near atteridgeville s cemetery, where as the neighborhood s premiere producer, young spoko earned the nickname ghost. the title of his new ghost town ep

just as magnified record grooves reveal dust constellations and lunar landscapes, so too does godblesscomputers third album. solchi is a deep search into previous moments in lorenzo nadas lifetime, influenced by the presence and power of music. his process began with the recovery of some old cassettes, mixtapes nearly forgotten, audio recording of voices from his childhood, and lots of dusty jazz, soul, and hip-hop records. as the starting point of this travel merge with its end, past and present combine to form gbcs current sound. warm electronic production rooted by grooving bass lines form the core of a kaleidoscope of sixteen tracks, colored by synthesizers, guitar echoes, scratches, samples, fading voices and kalimba. the album is a collection of sixteen stories, sixteen soundscapes, each of them gbcs tribute to the path taken thus far, an homage to his love for music. the recording and studio work took place over a year, with the adding and subtracting of many elements.
