villa Åbo in the alternative solo project of swedish musician and producer jan svensson. who has been making electronic music for the better part of 30 years as the artist behind such aliases as frak. studio ss and alvars orkestra. svensson also runs legendary swedish dance and experimental music label börft. the product of a mutual appreciation for severed heads and terse tapes. as villa Åbo he released two records in 1997 on börft and remained inactive for 17 years until the dutch label bio rhythm coaxed him into revisiting the project and released a double 12″.. in 2014. jan has since followed with a steady stream of 12” singles for kontra-musik. noise in my head and radio lundberg.

this is the 5th release on riot radio records. an independent techno label based in scotland. here are 12 artists (the horrorist. paul birken. neil landstrumm. cannibal cooking club. nomad. durkit. dez williams. martyn hare. cymbol. binny. morphamish and lado) each with a wicked track for the first of many sampler lp’s on riot. it’s named a sampler because it is just that. a sample of the various artists and forms of techno that can be heard on our fortnightly riot radio show and also of what’s to come on the label from each of the artists featuring on the lp. that’s because each artist appearing on this lp will be delivering you their own individual release on the label. with each one featuring brand new original tracks and additional solid remixes by various exceptionally talented artists.
nandu returns for his 2nd release on connected with another unique pair of tracks. the first an african influenced song with the mesmerising vocals of oluhle. the second a 909 style acid dark dancefloor workout. 1. nandu & oluhle - umfazi omuhle (original mix)- a gentle almost cautious arrangement building slowly and ethereally with a beautiful selection of sounds and an african influenced nandu rythm with shakers and claves providing an original feel and leaving space for oluhle’s moving vocals. 2. nandu – another jam (another acid dub)- a more aggressive. upfront side from nandu. for the intense spot of the night with twisted groove of claps and percussion. heavier in the lows with a proper 909 kickdrum with the acid line coming in half way through..... hot.
the delsin re-issue arm turns its attention to lost trax. this ep features four cuts taken from two different eps. the saturnian system and lost trax 2 from 2006 and 2010 respectively. saturnian system opens the ep with some acid laced electro slickness. fluttering snares and spacey synths carry it away into the cosmos. then the sequel gets much busier. scurrying lines dart about in manic but funky fashion. with serene pads off setting the high energy drums. self destruct sequence then drops into an urgent. slippery electronic groove riddled with squelchy sounds and rubbery bass all perfectly orchestrated. last of all. birth is a nimble electronic house cut with plaintive synths and kinetic drums that wiggle and wriggling through the night sky. this is an ep stuffed with timeless sounds and is another essential reissue from delsin.
the jam starts with -orange sunshine- (doesn t it always?) of course as usual it takes a while to kick in and by the time it does it s obvious helltown acid militia are back with their time warping spaceship. by the second track -still turning- the fog clears a little. but there are still echoes of a time past. what is it? can t quite put my finger on it... on the flip we are met with chunky 909 rhythms in -more important-. because what s more important than a 909 rhythm track? for the final outing -broadcast- (which may be the real hidden gem here) the tempo drops and there s chord stabs. strings and talk of ufos. its at this point that you realise that the label on the record has a picture of mitzi the cat. in a space suit. holding a white 303!! this acid really is a trip.

dark entries is honored to release a 4-track ep by red axes. the prolific production duo of dori sadovnik and niv arzi from tel aviv. the pair were raised on a diet of post-punk. new-wave. and italo-disco at fogged out warehouse and basement parties. their own productions and remixes have appeared on labels such as i?m a clich?. correspondant. and hivern discs. ?nyx tape? features two new compositions backed with two edits from our catalog. first up is the slick electro anthem ?5 min? another collaboration with french-canadian born singer chlo? raunet aka c.a.r. followed by ?nyx tape? featuring charismatic singer-lyricist gina kikoine aka gina x. who reached out after hearing their remix of her classic single ?no gdm? that was a huge anthem on the tel aviv 80s underground scene. the track is an ecstatic dance to the rhythm in the darkness with gina?s ice cold teutonic spoken word taking creative inspiration from the jewish mourners? prayer ? the kaddish. on the b-side ?destination moon? by solid space from 1982 has been given a dancefloor makeover with moody synths and a haunting guitar line reminiscent of an adrian sherwood dub. closing this ep is a hypnotic edit of ?la machine ? r?ver? by french bedroom synth freaks x-ray pop from 1984 slowed down to a 4/4 groove that takes the original to outer space and back. all songs have been mastered for vinyl by george horn at fantasy studios in berkeley. the ep is housed in a custom made jacket that features an original collage by eloise leigh representing nyx. the greek goddess of the night. each copy included a postcard with notes and lyrics.
