FAR & BEYOND: SELECTED BY DUBBYMAN & ABOVE SMOKE (2X12 INCH, 180 G)
2x12 Inch, 180 g 02.07.14
ten years of deep explorer. the celebration started with the capsule remixes 10inch that was released 2 months ago, now is closed with this far & beyond, a double pack vinyl where the brothers and heads of the label (dubbyman & above smoke) make their own selection of exclusive material into groove and dark deepest house tunes from artists worldwide.
drawing from an acute sense of what could perhaps be described as deep minimalism-turned-into-a-quasi-equatorial-feast, full of holes gradually unfolds and weaves its fabrics in ways that are evocative of the disparate sensations and heady feelings one might run into in a proto-ritualistic setting, whilst xdbs recontextualisation routes a more linear but no less absorbing excursion.
the excellent cinematic label charges into 2014 with a meaty new various artistep that features tracks by label head soy mustafa, acid man jared wilson, dub specialist xdb and relative newcomer city 2 city. this stunning ep is an essential offering for fans of genuinely raw and emotive house music that showcases four very real talents at their absolute best.
xdb returns on dolly with the ganivon ep, the follow-up of his excellent recago ep from 2011. xdb is once again delivering the goods, with 3 top-notch contemporary techno tracks filled with his trademark hypnotic melodies, lush strings and solid groovin beats. favourite is tonik with its classic detroit-feel and special atmosphere. berlin/berghain based answer code request is doing the remix job for ganivon, resulting in an effective techno bomb which perfectly combines industrial techno elements with the dolly feel. recago might have been hard to surpass, but xdb might just have done it. big!
luke hess shows his detroit roots with his dub tech pasted synths & flowing pads. chicago mastermind steven tang puts it together with beautiful drum programming & freeform synths. xdb takes a turn to the deeper side of things with bass line & prototype drums.
sistrum proudly welcomes the return of mr. kosta athanassiadis, aka xdb, back to the fold with the deep, hypnotic electronics of the frocks ep. this three track ep features patrice scott on remix duties. this is another quality installment in the revered sistrum catalog...
its time for the second release on diamonds and pearls in 2012. two of the most singular and distinct forces in house and techno today team up for a special sonic treat. we are talking about the two alechmists xdb and kassem mosse. so get yourself ready for two extended journeys into techno, house and beyond. xdbs >ekatem< is a driving, rough and ready house track with a beautifully bubbling square bassline and dirty synth work. on the flip xdb is joined by kassem mosse for an exploration into the outer reaches of house music. omrish is a gritty-yet-atmospheric jam, full of shimmering chords and floating synth melodies which are puntuated by double kicks and crisp cymbals. mesmerizing stuff.
atlanta producer distal teams up with vancouvers hxdb for >booyant<, an absolutely killer collaboration that fuses the best elements of both producers in fine style. taking a 136bpm tempo and bridging dubstep with a cutting edge bass-heavy house vibe, the duo pull together an intimate dancefloor bubbler that fans of night slugs and swamp 81 will most likely feel quite at home with. awash with lush synths and gurgling sound bytes, >booyant< is a quality track to tickle many a fancy. flip to side aa for distals solo effort >amphibian<, an excellent piece of 140bpm machine music, whirring and clicking in a roughly similar vein to instra:mentals >rift zone<. experimental dubstep pressure for the open minded, guaranteed future-proof. distal will release his debut album >civilization< on tectonic later in the spring of 2012.
this time its xdb delivering the goodies for dolly, as always pushing the boundaries between house and deep techno. with this 4 excellent cuts xdb is taking the label in even deeper territories. even though they are very well playable and will easily rock the floor, taking it up to somewhere between jupiter & mars, xdbs tracks are more than just proper dj-tools. so well-crafted, deep, harsh and hypnotising, but always firmly keeping floor contact with minimal yet funky drum programming, exactly as this kind of music should be. to top things of, brooks mosher on remix duties delivers a detroit inspired remix of sunda. big!
we are happy to announce xdb on echocord dj/producer xdb aka kosta athanassiadis has been djing since the early nineties but its in the last few years that his abilities as a producer have come to fore both through his recordings for labels such as detroits sistrum and francois ks wave music, remixes for norm talley, conforce and patrice scott to name a few, along with the releases on his own metrolux label which he founded in 2006. lately, kosta athanassiadis is garnering the overdue attention of popular writers and fellow musicians. throughout his growing popularity, xdb has kept his identity nearly silent, allowing his music to be unpolluted by preconceived notions that comes with branding ones image. less is more, he suggests, applying the advice to inspiring and established artists. in the end, it was this tactic – of letting the music speak for itself – that cultivated the respect and trust of his fans. recent 2011 releases are his bakfom ep on harbour city sorrow and now followed by the apari ep on echocord. two powerfull dubby tracks by xdb + a fantastic remix by sven weisemann
london based label we mood swing records debuts with the sounds of x-db, aka darc marc and matteo boyero. the production duo team up with vocalist tiddles on speaker cone worrying title track >dubsista<, with legendary new york producer lenny dee assisting on production duties. flip over for the future steppin remix of the title track, all droning dub and cascading hats. the moody beats and menacing synth stabs of >another lover< - already a favourite with the chemical brothers tom rowlands - combine to create a feeling of woozy narcosis. whats more, additional production on this 10inch was done by recording onto two inch tape, thus ensuring the music comes out at the loudest possible volume with compromising quality. heads down business right here!
harbour city sorrow will showcase different sides of techno. after exploring the electro side of things we now go more towards the deeper housey side of techno. xdb (kosta athanassiadis, metrolux, sistrum) is walking on the border of various styles, creating his own unique blend of techno and house.. youll find 3 tracks of his hybrid style on here. deep sound layers and almost jackin rhythms. well crafted raw analog tracks that will appeal to the club jocks as well as the more adventurous deejay and home listener. music that is not fitting to just one main category.. just how we like it.
to delight those who are true believers of the sistrum sound, patrice scott presents the aphotic segments part one, showcasing the talents of patrice scott, xdb, leonid and anton zap. making yet another statement on quality, timeless electronic music.

the term >ballad< is written similarly in many languages of the western hemisphere. it is a antique word. you can find its etymological origin in the latin verb >ballare< - which means >to dance< - and the greek verb >ballein< - wich means >to move<. a ballad is always a story told through music. in recent times the term >ballad< is often associated with greasy / absurd pop music. what a shame! ballad inc. releases tracks that earn the label >ballad<. on our first release >exile< you can listen to the epic story >high hopes of salvation< by quietpoint and to two short stories by xdb. >anilem< and >jupit< got everything a ballad needs. of course you can dance to it. of course you can move your body. but this should not be the main issue! there is so much more in modern instrumental music. who needs words to tell a story?
a two track 12 inch of electrifying, catchy and simply deep underground music. side a, espac ( the shorter name variation of espace), is a funky, moody and cosmic sound sculpture that fits well into the minimal tech category. this track contains a bass-laden brass morphing sound which converts to a more trumpet horn like sound. the loudness and resonance of this lead sound will definitely grab the attention of the audience. strings from outer space, claps with a live funky feeling, shuffled hats and a radioactive background noise >wicked!!! side b, f.e.b., contains more morphing and electrifying hi pass resonance chord sounds. these sounds are combined with a warm stringful waving wall sound, a heartbeat like pulsating bass line and a simple offbeat playing open hi-hats. this track is relaxing but exciting at the same time which is sure to pack the dance floor!!
lithuania s greyscale returns this december with ohrwert’s “fidelis / blavus”, backed with remixes from xdb and grad_u.
greyscale was launched in 2012 by lithuanian producer and dj grad_u, and photographer rima prusakova, set up as a platform for material from grad_u and close friends whilst prusakova’s black and white analogue photography provides the visual identity of the label.
the original mix of “blavus” opens the ep, perfectly setting the tone with murky, ethereal atmospherics, billowing dub echoes, modulating percussion and thunderous drums before dubtechno stalwart xdb strips things back a little with soft touches of the originals airy drones tucked away in the depths whilst choppy stabs and dynamically unfolding analogue rhythms wander throughout.
the second original from ohrwert opens the flip-side, upping the energy levels slightly with hooky stab-sequences, filtered delays and hypnotic melodies running alongside a sturdy percussive foundation. lastly to round out the release grad_u reworks “blavus” into a more groove-driven workout, employing shuffled hats, looped dub chords and bumpy sub-bass hits throughout.
mastered at the legendary dubplates & mastering in berlin.
koett & wellbeck are back with their second release for pro-tez records. “untitled 9” is a proper skilled brilliant low-slung house composition. with remixes from anton kubikov and xdb, two veterans lay down a lush house groove that s just begging to be played on the dance floor. xdb’s version with sweetly offset dub chords takes us into a club mist of fizzing electronics for a full submerged dub house experience. it is a vinyl only, heavyweight 180 grams pressing, limited to 300 copies.
special remarks: 180g vinyl
echonomist is back on rotary cocktail rec. and presents a tribute to the deep and hypnotic vibes of early detroit techno but in his own way of modern and synth-driven sound design.
the compilation features artists that all have been releasing on echocord and echocord colour before, from veterans mikkel metal, deadbeat, fluxion to newer signed artist arovane.
mr. statik returns to amam with * a boy named crow*, a deeply personal release that draws its inspirations from murakamis beloved * kafka on the shore* novel. with it the greek producer further explores his favorite topics of sub consciousness & subliminal sensitivities in the form of 3 tracks that, although still aim at the dance floor, bear a strong sense of unconventionality via surreal sampling exercises, a healthy dose of surrealism and of course humor. complimenting the release xdb appears in precise remix duties, applying his particular skill set to transform clandestine into a late a.m. euphoric roller. mr. statiks * a boy named crow* ep is out on amam records on a vinyl only format .
nice price deal !!! ephemerals debut on helena treats us to three deep originals, offset by a characteristically storming xdb remix on the flip. molecular and cirrus combine gritty textures, half-heard phrases, pulsing bass and cyclical synth and acid lines into the kind of meditative sound experience familiar to fans of plan b or underground quality – but here, and especially on ammonia, overlaid by the distinctly dubby feel of drizzly afternoons spent at ephemeral s home in the midlands. xdb, true to form, grabs the latter track and sticks on some serious afterburners, setting controls for a revved-up voyage across the surface of some distant planet.
2015 pressing , clear vinyl
