FOREVER MONNA
12 Inch 04.04.23
one of the most evasive titles of the prescription/balance catalog, chez damier & stacey pullens >forever monna< evinces the futurism of the most forward leaning deep house music, purging itself of any relics of disco sentimentality in the sacred quest of that prophecy of infinite, intangible beauty hidden within the patchwork of electronic production. originally released in apparently minuscule numbers on serious grooves in 1993, this remarkable instrumental track was re-released two years later on ballance, a fine example of these two detroit pioneers tireless effort to claim a piece of that brave new world from the unyielding clutches of techno. slinky synth loops. eerie chord frames and a brilliantly simple low-end punctuation coalesce in the uncertain, unidentifiable prospect of soul music stripped of any links to the past or present, an inexplicably funky rendition of a deep house slow mounting contagion, infecting fatally the recollections of parliament / funkadelic bass-licks and warm organ progressions with a bleak, somehow comforting landscape of fresh alien-esque soul

ETERNAL BEAMS (LP)
12 Inch 30.04.19
travel agents for inner journeys seahawks take us on a voyage ever deeper into the new age vortex. their last album ‘escape hatch’ described by vice as a ‘modern masterpiece’ only hinted at the transcendent power of seahawks music. eternal beams goes ‘further’ to create a whole new harmonial experience. side one: the listener immersed in a soft storm of tape saturated raindrops and distant thunder…numinous waves of sound cascade to create whirlpools of womb-like warmth with gentle pulsations. side two: enter laraaji… flocculent flows of golden zither, rich vocal vibrations, dolphin tones in phantasy phase - all coalesce generously, bringing feelings of rebirth and light. to conclude: a wondrous journey of resonant oscillations, inner exploration, a portal to other dimensions.#

BLACK LOTUS (2X12 LP)
2x12 Inch 13.07.18
‘black lotus’ follows walton’s inclusion on tectonic’s landmark 100th release – riko dan’s ‘hard food’ ep, plus the ‘praying mantis’/ ‘koto riddim’ 12” (also on tectonic) and the ‘taiko’ ep on kaizen – the latter two of which hinted at the album’s sound, but didn’t fully prepare us for the brilliance to come. abstract electronics, grime, dubstep and new styles that don’t even have a name yet coalesce perfectly on this classic in the making. it finds walton at peak power, reaching just as far (if not more so) than anything on the pan, different circles, boxed or tectonic catalogues for pure futurism and new-terrain-traversing brilliance.

GIMME THA HONEY (FEAT. PHIL WEEKS REMIX)
12 Inch 08.03.18
two of dance musics hottest producers coalesce on the latest hot creations release. frank storm and matteo spedicati bring us gimme tha honey, a throbbing three-track ep that gifts us with a rework from robsoul label boss phil weeks. frank storm reveals -this is our first collaboration which was born a year ago in our studio in barcelona. we share the same passion for our own definition of the ghetto sound, blending fresh and techy vibes.” with this inspiration they weave an almost menacing vocal into the pulsating bassline of lead track gimme tha honey. the phil weeks remix brings a slither of light with a shower of synths and warm, bubbling bass. the ep closes with the long wait shaking the record into heavier terrain, as the industrial keys are underpinned by a flurry of tough drums. frank storm has been a key player on the white isle having played at some of the island’s biggest clubs, space, sankey’s, pacha, ministry of sound and zoo project, as well holding down a residency at the night unusual suspects. matteo spedicati began releasing music in 2006 and has received support from ricardo villalobos and richie hawtin. since then he’s gone on to work with such high profile names as joseph capriati and mendo, as well as releasing records on an abundance of top labels.

CHOICES EP (S. MOREIRA REMIX) (VINYL ONLY)
12 Inch 22.02.18
vinyl only. lisbon-based record shop carpet & snares second release comes from owner jorge caiado. optimistic strings and sweetly melancholic keys bring a touch of wistfulness to both ap135 and choices : the former matches skippy detroit hats with deep berlin bass in the manner of derek carr, while the latter draws from a rawer palette more reminiscent of 3 chairs. on the flip, tarradas takes us into spacier territory, the almost-broken beat contrasted with a sustained background wash of synths and acid highlights, which s. moreira of the slow life crew turns into the main motif of his driving, funked-up remix, finding a place where techno, breaks and house influences coalesce into a new, exciting whole

TISTISH / NEE SHITTERU
12 Inch 12.12.17
man power returned to his northern home for one last waltz. this is their joint offering for the esp institute. on side a, man power welcomes us with tistish, stepping slightly out of his comfort zone and employing a boxy breakbeat to create a dose movement. this contrasts his signature fatty bassline and together they establish a ground on which to stack layers of atonal square and sawtooth waves. about halfway through he introduces a massively seductive string lead and for the remainder of the ride this palette of sounds coalesce in dark orchestral beauty. on side b, man power’s cohorts last waltz deliver nee shitteru, a true stomper of a track complete with in-your-face toms and off-time percussion patterns, an intense driving acid line, and aggressive shamanic chanting. throw in some crash cymbals, sci-fi sound effects and a smattering of gamelan and it amounts to an overwhelmingly chaotic and psychedelic trip. these two songs will have you speaking in tongues.

alien jams presents a new release by wilted woman called home listener. after releasing the amazing -diary of a woman- on she rocks! earlier this year, ww is back with this sublime 5 track ep. from the onset, playful synth patterns mingle and coalesce, spiralling towards dizzy culminations. at times wobbly and disjointed, ww creates stunning compositions that would work magic on the dancefloor. each track of home listener feels like its own paranormal entity, living organisms that develop and grow as the music unfolds.

III (DISQUE DORGUE)
12 Inch 20.11.17
goings third effort is a joint release by silent water and meakusma. recorded in the span of one year in monthly recording sessions, it sees them venture off into an at times melismatic and contrasting contemplation on forward musical propulsion, 70s crossover jazz and minimalistic and at times downright futuristic electronic music. over the course of two spun out yet concentrated pieces, light and dark are built into a mesmerizing musical reverie that is equally as contemplative as it is explicitly emotional and confrontational. melodic as well as rhythmic accents diverge and coalesce with ease and poise, a subtle yet incessant throb defining everything throughout. record includes free download code + additional bonus track. running time side a - 24:43 / side b - 24:22 released in a gatefold cover.

RANGE OF REGULARITY REMIXES II (RICARDO VILLALOBOS RMX)
12 Inch 29.09.17
the second ep of samuel rohrer’s range of regularity album presents two more striking reinterprations. these new remixes provide an intriguing parallax view of the original tracks, using the percussive eclecticism of the parent lp as a starting point from which to journey into sonically vibrant, feature-rich territories. the production specialists on hand for this project include burnt friedman and ricardo villalobos. villalobos, has already formed a strong working relationship with rohrer’s ambiq trio, lends his talents to both of the eps. (ror remixes i - amel-ep716). nonplace label boss friedman, as well, has carved out a unique space for himself within the electronic world, logging several decades’ worth of releases that with dub-wise production sensibility, skewed humor, and riots of tone color. though each individual remix has its own character, they are all united in their ability to provide a quick cure for fatigue with the common “loop”: though not improvised, they are strung together from fleeting phrases that evolve as if they are taking on a life independent of their creators. burnt friedman’s own dramatic interpretation of “microcosmoism” pairs up his consciousness of deep bass and analog inventiveness with rohrer’s continually transforming sound objects, making for a flowing and wordless narrative that simply dares listeners to stop paying attention. feeling more like a collaboration in “real time” than a remix proper, friedman brings his characteristic ‘mad scientist’ wit to the proceedings and delivers an energetic piece that simply glows in the dark. this is complemented nicely by villalobos’ remix of “microcosmoism”. it carries the energy level of the 1st ep over to a new disk, while heavily experimenting with feelings of emotional ambiguity. at some points aggressive and at other points merely curious, this mischievous collage of attitudes feels as inspired by the questing jazz of sun ra as it is by continental techno. contemplative keyboard runs, enthusiastic spring-like percussion and malfunctioning machine chatter all coalesce to make this a most fascinating piece of multi-purpose electronic music.

SACER (EP)
12 Inch 09.02.15
the idea of merging recordings of different instruments and sounds appeared out of recording harp for an audiobook. the result are 4 innovative, unpredictable and completely homeproduced tracks on the a-side of the record, which negates the cliché of the harp as an apparently benign tool for gentle and smooth tunes. in order to go one step further in breaking tradition-steeped sounds there are 3 remixes from 3 different artists coming from the more technoid world of music (technical grief, carina posse, mod.civil) on the b-side. there you’ll find the attempt to alienate the original instruments and let them coalesce with danceable electronic sounds in a new context. the 12- is on black vinyl, packaged in a silkscreen print cover and limited to 200 pieces.

S MPL HOUSE
12 Inch 14.03.12
after his sublime remix for hitsafes >let the acid out< on shaddocks first release, tin man makes a deadly return to shaddock records, delivering his most dancefloor oriented record to date. opening track >t_dd_t_rr_y< sees kicking beats with a genealogy harking back to finest chicago house, yet done with contagious feather-light energy of uk funky and a naughty bassline gliding perfectly between cheeky rave chords and their moody older brother. >s_mple_house< continues with this blindingly effective simplicity, dreamily muted chord stabs, rolling congas in ecstatic space over a warm round bass. on the flip on >aut_repeat<, crystalline synth shards coalesce in complex forms and continue in icey determination as the beat sneaks up underneath, propelling into an absolutely blistering workout. >djsn_k< rounds up on a perky high, an ebullient synthline with crunch and a punchy beat so frontal it might make you blush. rave bones akimbo – tin man steals the pure dance!

KILL THE PAIN
12 Inch 09.11.11
kill the pain: epic is the only way to describe the extended intro of kill the pain, featuring acoustic guitar and an earnest male vocal. then, just before two minutes in, things quickly take a nasty turn as choppy breaks splinter into pieces and the bassline reboots the texas chainsaw massacre. an aggressive, genre bending, sure fire floor smasher.
letting go: teaming up with kryteria for the flip, a eurphoric, trancey intro leads into a chainsaw reece, setting the scene for the chaotic chiaroscuro to come: beyond the drop sweeping synths and ethereal vocal snippets somehow successfully coalesce with heavily edited breaks and sawing bass, creating a kind of beautiful violence. subsequently, side effects of letting go include spontaneous eruptions of feet on the floor and hands in the air.

CREEP EP
12 Inch 07.05.09
if there s one lesson we have learned from 2008, it s that techno is not nearly creepy enough. on creep ep, germany s kevin over injects pitch-black dread into the heart of his distinct brand of techno. steamrolling bass-lines, droplets of toxic rain, and ghostly sirens all coalesce into swinging, propulsive grooves that stretch into a never-ending night. mr. over demonstrates his knack for creating arrangements that are both melodious and spacious, crafting an almost seven minutes ride through some of the most banging and infectious techno tracks to date, not to mention some dubby business on surge that would leave lee perry envious. at its most compelling, creep ep paints a picture of a raging warehouse party at the edge of your wildest dreams. including killer remixes by pascal vert and john lagora
