* sheffield-based subaltern resident taiko returns to the imprint with a stunning selection of four distinctively grimy pieces of sub-bass science, proving once again his original take on the 140 bass realm. a. trenches introducing his unique style once again with a fresh twist, taiko delivers relentless earth-shattering bass waves in ‘trenches’, which graces the a side of the release. bells, strings and dark synths set the mood for a precisely executed wall of bass, complimented by subtle vocal work. b1. raid dramatic orchestral strings and horns set the stage for the grim reaper that is ‘raid’ - leading into a dark and roaring synth that accentuates the laid back bass-line. sure to shake every system it is unleashed on, the track keeps evolving and luring the listener ever deeper into a maze of darkness. you can run but you can’t hide… b2. mana pool ‘mana pool’ adds a more psychedelic and subtle edge to the release. synth loaded parts play in exchange with carefully laid out harmonic synth lines complementing the tasteful bass-lines, while remaining the raw edge of the release.

greenvision is the collaborative brainchild of two esp institute artists, juan ramos and luca trentini aka trent, both longtime fixtures of berlin’s infamous playground known as cocktail d’amore. separately, these two explore their own very personal avenues of expression, putting their time in the trenches and endlessly polishing their works (this makes juan’s third release with the label), but when their efforts overlap we’re gifted a view into their uncanny synergy. juan and trent channel an exorbitant amount of smoke-fueled creativity, building layers upon layers into music so dense that the bulk of their studio time might then be spent navigating and formalizing their output into tangible tracks. greenvison’s collective debut with the esp institute showcases three intense cerebral workouts, banana paradiso, rambutan and the color of maracuja, an array of experiments pulling from all the corners of the duo’s imagination—it is disorienting, cacophonous, introverted and psychedelic, but at the same time playful, melodic, euphoric and undoubtably arresting—guaranteed to induce hallucinations under proper circumstances. we welcome the induction of greenvision to the esp institute, and with us as your guide, we welcome you to accompany on our descent into their abyss. try not to get lost.

gila steps out of the shadows with a huge release. two massive,cold metallic techno drillers from the trench, with acidic nuances and big room bravado attached. 106 slipper is the a-side, a weighty, slow tempo,morphing banger. driven by punishing percussion,this is a polyrhythmic take on techno from the trenches. receiving love from mary anne hobbs, optimo & hudson mohawke. trench cadence, the b-side, is a drum line procession sent through a meat grinder, picking up erratic idm aesthetics, and a villalobos who gives a fuck mentality. hard and built for the club.

sean sounds, born in the music trenches of chicago, has been rockin parties since the early 80s. known on the chicago scene as mr. bringtheheat, sean s music selections and playing style has filled dance floors for decades. this old school dj loves his wax so you never know what to expect when he blesses the tables but he never disappoints. sean sounds has unlocked his music vault to begin releasing edits and remixes that has rocked the crowds for years in his bringtheheat series on the street edits label. this series is a must have for djs who like to keep the dance floors packed.

music is about discourse: it’s about ideas, about the intellectual project. anyone can build a “beat”, but not everybody can produce an interesting argument for it. this implies the idea of romanticism as a notion of tradition and respect for certain rules. romanticism understood as virtuosity in the manipulation of art production tools. virtuosi of their own methodology. certain pedigree of virtuosity is definitely needed…but in many regards it also remains an extremely conventional formalism, which is at the core of every artist. it doesn’t matter if you have to piss around in the subterranean electronic music trenches for over two decades. a true pioneer simply has to live with that sort of dichotomy. here there are two good examples.
