get on down proudly presents another top-notch vinyl reissue, from their long-running series of collaborations with james brown’s famed 70s funk label people records. as the 1970s wore on, the classic funk sounds that had defined james brown’s backing band, the j.b.’s, gave way to the rise of disco music. fred wesley and his collective of musicians couldn’t resist the chance to make their mark, releasing “hustle with speed” in 1975, with charles bobbit and don love producing, and the godfather himself, james brown co-writing and providing arrangements. “hustle with speed” didn’t cross over like the band had hoped it would, but it was nonetheless remarkable album, featuring the j.b.’s signature funky style married with disco to exciting effect. all the while there’s still plenty to be had for the funk die-hard, from the brass blow-out jam “here we come, here we go, here we are”, to the trombone-heavy “all aboard the funky soul train”, to the powerhouse opening salvo that is “(it’s not the express) it’s the jbs monaurail”. songs from “hustle with speed” would take on lives of their own decades after the album’s release, through sampled appearances in tracks by jay-z, nas, eric b. & rakim, ultramagnetic mcs, epmd, and many more.

2019 repress - sintope bosses ntfo return to bondage music this may to deliver a combination of digital and vinyl only productions in the form of their esperantza ep. following an impressive break through year in 2009, romanian duo dani and robert aka ntfo have since gone on to carve out an impressive resume within the world of house, with a series of releases on 20/20 vision, objektivity, diynamic and jargon making up a notable back catalogue. owners of their own sintope imprint, releasing material from themselves alongside the likes of revered parisian djebali and fellow romanian rhadow, the duo have garnered stand out support from ryan crosson, cinthie, vinyl speed adjust and arapu to name just a few, and having recently featured on the labels bondage games compilation in january, here we see the duo deliver a fresh four track ep that s set to become a favourite of many in the months ahead. title cut esperantza sees the duo go to work, fusing rolling, crisp percussion with rich sub-bass, before uppercut interjects, unveiling a production packed full of swing, reinforced by robust drum licks, skipping hats and sweeping synths. on the flip, the first vinyl only cut lux reveals a smooth, stripped back effort, with lush, deep pads floating effortlessly over hazy background textures, whilst the electro influenced avoid closing things out in fine fashion, as trickling lead lines flow amongst and intricate organic percussion patterns across seven minutes

after her hugely successful offering on ugongetit, frankfurt talent luz1e crosses over to the the lt main label with a hard-hitting, machine-driven ep of electro that segues from slow rhythmic deepness into warp-speed acid jams. expect a warm wash of purifying synths and building rhythms on the a-side before entering into twilight territory on the flip, with dustings of wavy 303 lines, oscillating bleeps and convulsive percussion.

an ep of golden bug on lddlm has been a long-time coming. paths crosses, encounters, similitudes. but it took all of us time to agree on how golden bug should fit into our mortal ethics of fragmentation: we don t want to sound like anybody else, each track on the ep should all sound different. the french but barcelona based producer played our game, anticipating his future and very diverse album with a spook yet catchy 12inch. wild boys was an instant ear-catcher, some proto funk with a very strong vocal by yan wagner that made it sound like duran duran on speedball. it was hard to take it to another level but lord tusk, one of our favourite producers of the emerging -no genre london scene beefs it up, kraftwerk way. its moody as we all are. ik voel je shows the more experimental spaced out side of golden bug, we d call it space rock if we had to. do not neglect l-horloge, it s slow, dark, menacing but it s a real time bomb if tuned correctly.

craig mcwhinney is a melbourne based dj, producer and live artist. beginning his techno explorations behind the decks in 2000, his transition to the studio has been swift and fruitful. a string of releases on his own label haul music which he co-founded in 2008 with friends mike callander and christian vance, are now being backed up with remixes and eps for speedy js electric deluxe, and brendon moellers steadfast records. drawing upon his wealth of djing experience, he crosses the boundaries of dub infused techno and house with precision and intent, blurring the line between dance floor dynamics, home listening, experimentation and sound design. he is also collaborating with mike callander as haul music live, fusing craigs rhythms with mikes soundscapes to create unique dance floor interpretations of their individual sound experimentations. wild coast is a low-slung filthy minimal romp that possesses as much primal energy as it does futuristic funk. bassbins and heads are likely to be blown by this demented puppy. echologist keeps things lofi, hypnotic and subby.
