emotional rescue and malka tuti recognise their shared passion for globe-trotting sounds and team up to present this album from c cat trance, a project from john rees lewis who was formerly of post punkers medium medium. it s no surprise to learn that this was a project of the 1980s, as all the hallmarks are there. with the same outernational attitude that made the work of eno, hassell, czukay, wobble and scores more so alluring, this collection shines a light on a true gem of the era and provides a fresh pressing of some stone cold leftfield party groovers like shake the mind.

august darnells swaggering alter ego kid creole dons his famed fedora and gets back in stride with his first high profile studio album in over 10 years this summer, i wake up screaming. darnell first came to prominence during the mid-70s in new york, forming dr. buzzards original savannah band with his brother stony browder before producing a slew of eccentric projects for ze records including cristina, don armandos seventh avenue rumba band and gichy dan, as well as sporting his trademark zoot suit and fedora for the first time for the debut recordings by kid creole & the coconuts.
the fifth release contains more rare tracks from the trax catalogue. the a-side features two mixes of the little known gwendolyn track, which originally came out on precision records (named after larry shermans pressing plant) in 1984. this early vocal (house) gem was produced by vince lawrence and jessie saunders. it comes in two versions. a more straight forward original and a more dubbed out version by farley jackmaster funk. a real treat. side b features another early 80s chicago track, again by vince lawrence and jessie saunders aka z-factor featuring screaming rachel. classic chicago house tracks
first up on the a side is do one a shakey, stompy belter that winds up into the first drop of gargantuan bassweight with the sound of a racing motorcycle having its heels nipped by a dyson hoover fuelled on uranium. it then continues to pile on the pressure pound after pound in a frenzy of sidewinding synths and sliding pentatonic scales.
