15 years have passed since alex cortex began to create his own vision of electronic music - timeless and beyond trends, without a buzz or hype, steadily winning the following of djs and home-listeners, collectors and critics worldwide. his style can be described as unpredictable to a certain point, while maintaining high aesthetic standards. playful with quotes and references, always low-key and focused on psychedelic immersion into sound that shifts the attention from the artist to the music. kihon is a very personal effort, as suggested by the self-portrait on the cover that puts ear, eye, and mouth -reception and production- into context. the carefully elaborated design of this gatefold double lp speaks as a whole and in true minimalist fashion about the passing of time, without ever declaring nostalgia to be a means for itself. this also reflects in the music. alex cortex evades large gestures and obvious quotes, but is certainly conscious of locating his album within a framework of references to other works of electronic music that are important for his own musical evolution. in 11 nameless tracks, kihon takes us on a journey through organic worlds of sound that invites us to flow with the music and connect with the feelings contained in it. the title kihon that relates to japanese martial arts translates to basics or fundamentals, the training of which does not even cease when reaching master grades. those basics that are passed on beyond time are also the foundation of this album. by concentrating on the bare essentials, the music begins to speak, turning the album into a harmonic whole. kihon therefore is also a return to listening, away from a utilitarian perception of music as a background sound. this does not mean it would not work perfectly well in a club context -in the right hands it indeed does- but more notably, kihon is a work of art worth your attention and destined to stand the test of time

after receiving such a warm reception from those around the world who appreciate timeless electronic sounds, it was only fitting that patrice scotts >analog dreams< would eventually rise again, refreshed, in the form of a remix project. knowing the mixes had to be special while maintaining the authenticity of the original, patrice tapped two of the worlds finest electronic craftsmen for the honor, both hailing from germany - xdb and johannes volk. these talented artists bring forth just enough vibe from the original mix and offer their own unique interpretations, which are sure to delight those with a tasteful ear.

proper heat slid onto the nangsphere last year with their nifty >we are ready< ep. they certainly were… good reception all around and some fine plaudits. fast forward on 6 months and we are really pleased that the follow up >move ep< hits the streets. proper heat are from lithuania and are made up of martin virgin, saxtone and some fine vocals from karolis ramoska. laid-back, accessible disco house is the order of the day with this ep. we have two finely voiced tracks. dulcet tones and catchy songs abound with karolis doing a fine job in the voice department. lead track >the move” is mid tempo groover. mixes from nang label new-long-found-friend james bright and label stalwart (and supertop photographer) ichisan… you are always a subject when you are in the same room as this guy…. snap snap snap. james grooves it up with tight synthy bass and ichisan gets electronic and rolling. you can check out the video for >the move< on youtube and our home page too. the equally able >get ready< also makes a strerling appearance on the ep. another fine disco groovoid song. all in all the package overflows with extra dubs and instrumentals. bountiful disco abounds.

stunning italian disco concept album about robots from 1978, what more do you need to know? wild percussion, eccentric vocals and strange effects conspire with glorious results on one of those hard to come by disco albums with not one filler track to be found. this was the source material for the much hyped >robolove< edit by loud e on ambassadors reception. amazing artwork too.

the meeting between tyrrhenians obtane and romes giorgio gigli creates two deep and dark techno where cinematic elements meet industrial structures in a dry and powerful form. transmission is up building and tight, the dark patterns reach obsession. reception takes a wider signal from a mysterious laboratory somewhere in the mountains.

on rodz konez #7 steve bailey teams up with himself when his alter ego makaton meets his alias lift syndrome. side a is dedicated to straight forward techno, while the flip is up to electroid experimentations.

* this is the seventh surgeon album.
* -while exploring new production techniques using old and unlikely hardware, the results were so unusual that i really had the sense that these pieces of equipment didn t actually create these sounds, rather they were in fact some kind of elaborate reception device that allowed me to tune into transmissions from distant galaxies. the music i could hear was actually the received transmissions of pop hits from those distant galaxies that were being played on their radio stations. i quickly recorded all that i could before losing the transmission.
* i consulted with dr andrew read, the astrophysicist with whom i recorded guitar treatments in 1999. he has worked on the discovery of the most distant galaxies and astronomical objects in the universe. together we came up with a possible list of where these musical transmissions may have come from.

following the international success of his much acclaimed debut lp, drone logic, daniel avery expands on his wide reaching world with a carefully curated collection of remixes from the artists with whom averys forward facing electronic style shares the deepest affinity. inviting each producer to either compliment, reconstruct or occasionally rebuild his original compositions, new energy stands as a testament to the strength of the current state of affairs in electronic music, borne out of one of its most original talents.
