at the edge of failure a door to greater understanding and discovery is sometimes opened. some of mankinds greatest discoveries and experiences took place by sheer coincidence or even by mistake. from the big bang, to penicillin, or the invisible light we call x-rays, chance and human error has played a big part of our history and evolution as a species - can we really afford to be perfect when we owe our mistakes and weaknesses so much?

out of the blue follows the recent success of the self titled vester koza ep, which gained support from djs such as ben ufo, even tuell, lowtec, giles smith, efdemin, alland byallo, lee gamble, braiden, and madteo. his brand of deep house and techno was recently compared to both kassem mosse and levon vincent by juno, whilst resident advisor noted ìa confident artist employing a level of patience and discipline that rewards repeated listens. as with the first release, this sequel is made up from a batch of demo recordings that circualted late last year. the works were written and recorded by vester koza in east london and have been mastered by helmut erler at dubplates and mastering berlin.

berlin based serialism records returns with yet another 12inch addition to their collection. this time onirik (a.k.a federico benedetti), the label manager, steps forward with what will be his debut ep, after a fleeting appearance on last years london cuts vol. ii compilation. broken ep fully embodies the dreamy and trippy atmosphere of oniiks musical sphere, based around hypnotic raw grooves with a touch of old school. the 12inch features a collaboration with label boss cesare vs disorder and a remix from hold youth wonderboy le loup.

there is a fantastic quality to gavin russoms work, an otherworldliness that is subtle yet palpable. its heard-or felt, more precisely-in all of his projects, including the crystal ark, black meteoric star and his numerous recordings with delia gonzalez. all of russoms sonic astral projections, with their textures and atmospheric layers, demonstrate his astounding production skills and modular wizardry. as dfas studio engineer, he was entrusted with the hefty task of maintaining the labels analog stockade. russom has built custom gear for the likes of james murphy, black dice and holy ghost!, has remixed artists including juan maclean, cut copy and caribou, and filled out the wonderful music of lcd soundsystem. so its no wonder that russoms newest solo outing, night sky, reflects the talent and experience accrued in all those roles with both stunning precision and audible clarity. add patience to the above list as well.

deeper meaning return with a very special second release, a real gem of an ep from kitano. based in melbourne australia, this vinyl represents kitanos debut, and on the strength of the music displayed here, we are sure hes destined for great things. the >drifting< ep offers up three beautifully crafted slices of languid, deep house music. rich, warm and atmospheric throughout, kitano deftly blends subtle acid basslines with smooth pads and hypnotic percussion to create some utterly unique electronica. if you like your house slowed down and subtle, this is the ep for you

two of italys most formidable electrosonic programmers, composite profuse & kobol electronics were handpicked by veteran covert intelligence agent wilhelm von erwache to decode the encrypted archives of sismi, the italian secret service, and bring to life these clandestine events onto a 12 inch vinyl disk. on the a side, composite profuse (minimal rome, bunker) uncovers his tracks, blackfriars bridge & patience and charcoals and sets them to an ominous electro soundtrack that his name is synonymous for. the b side sees kobol electronics (minimal rome) deliver two sonic binary programs, code01 & code10 that will devastate both internetworks and dancefloors worldwide.

abusing our soft side for dub edgar 9000 gave us these compelling tracks.>play me minus three (patience vs. epiphany mix)< û what starts like a nicely arranged minimal tune bubbles and billows after a short pause up to a big ride on the acid-dub-ghost-train. at the latest when the decently deployed and gated french horn pad sets in on the second half you are completely lost. not for quick peep û but beware: danger of addiction of endless playing is definitely given.meanwhile the title >hook & bait< of the b-side rather reads like the basic principle of fishing. it really sounds like the classic principle of ambient à well almost, since in this case this ambient track is drifting along itself, underlined with a straight driving and floating rhythm fed by an earthly bassline.petri heil! (as we say in krauts-country)
