pittsburgh track authority have been making waves the last couple of years following brilliant releases on some of the best underground house labels around such as uzuri, argot, finale sessions as well as their own pittsburgh tracks imprint. last year saw their debut lp enter the machine age gain them further fans and we invited them to remix nils penners i can be for which they delivered an absolute beast. the pittsburgh based collective are as comfortable making disco-influenced grooves as they are funk infused techno so when they offered us your situation with a view to doing an ep we jumped at the chance.

uk funk connoisseur duke slammer takes the driving seat on the 303-fueled ‘bangkok skytrain’, with remixes from moscow based simple symmetry and returning artist tony g. inspired by tropical heat, bangkok skytrain utilises 303s, analogue drum machines and mixes in field recordings taken from an excursion to thailand. the result is a heady concoction of warm basslines and humid atmospheres, with a groove reminiscent of early 90’s melodic techno and a cheeky drum track that wouldn’t be out of place on a larry heard record. simple symmetry, the lipski brothers from moscow, slowly rebuild layers of the track like a locomotive building up momentum, and in typical style simple symmetry style finding the perfect vocal sample and pan pipes that help propels you into the foreign lands. before you know it the track is pumping at full chug! tony g’s take goes a bit further afield than the original. a dub rhythm sets the picture in outer-space. hihats stutters like cosmic dust rickashading off the nosecone of the space ship while longing strings take us deep into a distant nebular before the 303 bring the thousands of new galaxies into view. definitely music to listen to in the dark! look out for the secret dancefloor weapon ‘just drums’, an industrial drum machine workout for the freaks!

doc severinsen is an accomplished american jazz/pop trumpet player, and as a band leader gained considerable notoriety on the tonight show with johnny carson. like most musicians in the 70s, doc took his shot at the disco and funk sounds of the time, gathered stellar musicians, and released impeccably sounding works. two of these cuts, be with you and shine on me are featured on this release. harvey s unfailing magic touch has yielded two dj-friendly edits with a lot of punch and galactic energy, yet with a velvet undertone. staying true to the mission, the label took great care throughout the production process in order to preserve the quality of the original recordings.

summertime is here, so its time for some brand new vinyl from deep site vinylized! for dsv003, we present four impeccable soulful house tracks from istanbul s sinan kaya (kolour/apparel/beef rec/skylax) the title track to this ep, what i want, is a sunny house groover that utilizes lush keys, funk guitar, and rubber-bass with a classic soulful jazz groove. the original second track, lazy, breaks into chicago house territory using an underpinned organ line, beautiful vibe stabs, and solid percussion work.

scott marshall is a london-based dj and producer. his debut 4-track ep, titled scott marshall demonstrates a distinctive uk booty sound. early supporters include dj deeon, john heckle, mark forshaw and jamie russell. born and raised in south london through the 80s, scott started buying records when he was 16 amassing a large collection of house, techno, disco and funk.

embezzlement society takes us back to the early days of 80s hip-hop with his ‘rough quarters ep. on his record the man from belfast heavily relies on funk-based drum loops as were popular in the glorious days of old school hip-hop. the results are two super casual tracks with a cool hip-house attitude just perfect for hip-house lover drei farben house who took the chance to contribute a remix in his slick and smooth style, merging the raw drums with some tender rhodes. tenderpark regular roman rauch finishes off the ep and slows down the tempo in his remix concentrating on the originals of the samples and displaying his mastery with the mpc once more. as always all tracks have been mastered and cut by helmut erler at dubplates & mastering.

*what cha gonna do for me* (1980) is arguably the best effort of the partnership with arif mardin. slowly but surely the two began to craft an even more successful and innovative sound. the album peaked at #3 in the r&b albums chart of 1981.
the cover of *we can work it out* gets a brash and funky stevie wonder –style arrangement, with gregory phillanganes doing great synth work. the best song here, *i know you, i live you*, displays brilliant bass and drum.
